Butterfly - Jun 3 2009 I was shooting roses today when all of a sudden 7 butterfies drew my attention. They seemed particularly fond of these tiny pinkish red flowers... and were not disturbed by my presence. I had a good 150 shots of them in less than 10 minutes. I like this shot because of the neat details on the head.
Turtle (Pic 249 2nd year - 24 Sep 2009) (D300 17-55 2.8 lens) No crop or PP except light adjustments. Shot at Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery near Galle, Sri Lanka. Kosgoda is famous for its turtle hatchery operated by the Wild Life Protection Society of Sri Lanka. It was established in 1981 to protect Sri Lanka's turtles from extinction. The hatcheries pay fishermen for eggs that they collect at night along the long sandy beach. Visitors are shown the huge tanks filled with new born but lively hatchlings. After being fed the hatchlings are taken to the sea and released when they are 2-4 days old www.javeri.net
September 11, 2009 John.. I took your advice last night.... half the bottle. ;) Yesterday was just one more chapter in a month and a half of nearly constant stress. It started with a very unpleasant surprise having to do with Ian's job (he still has it - nothing has changed with his position -just unpleasant financial news). Then some extended family issues that is very emotional and highly charged and yesterday - the air conditioner decided to start screetching like someone was taking a power tool to it. $650.00+ later we have a new fan motor. I really wanted to drink the entire bottle but couldn't because I have to be out and on the road by 7:15am. So John (very smart man that he is) suggested I just have half the bottle - which I did. Emily is home from school today - not feeling well at all. I will probably have her in to the doctor later this afternoon if I can get an appt. Why do kids (at least mine) always seem to get sick on Fridays and then there is the mad dash to the dr before the weekend hits.
Cotton-grass grows in wetlands. They are app. 30 cm (1 ft) high, so I got wet elbows and stomach to catch them at this angle

Thistle... Thistle is the common name of a group of flowering plants characterized by leaves with sharp prickles on the margins, mostly in the family Asteraceae. Prickles often occur all over the plant – on surfaces such as those of the stem and flat parts of leaves. These are an adaptation that protects the plant against herbivorous animals, discouraging them from feeding on the plant. Typically, an involucre with a clasping shape of a cup or urn subtends each of a thistle's flowerheads. Thistle is the floral emblem of Scotland. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thistle Schabarum Regional Park Rowland Heights, CA Thanks for your views, comments and critiques! June 26, 2015

An early October snowstorm in Colorado Springs; best viewed in the larger sizes. I think it is always challenging to try to capture the actual snow falling so that it looks natural. In the largest sizes, you can really see the snow falling, so I was pleased with this. I sure appreciated your comments on my shot of the snow at the hospital parking lot. This community is always so encouraging. Hope you had a good weekend!
"How Much is that Doggy in the Window? " This little guy waits at the window every morning for his master to get home from work and you can`t get a bark or a smile out of him while he waits with this sad , little face. I pass by his house most mornings and he hides behind the curtain , but he was braver today. I`m very tired so this will be my post for the 29th.This was the best I could do with glass between him and the camera..I wanted to pet his sadness away. This was taken last year 2011 and , I 've just met the dog owner this am June 19,2012. . Told her that I have this doggy shot for her and she seemed delighted to give me her address so I can drop it off. Thank you to the smug mugger who helped me to sharpen the colors!

This image shows a the water in a water balloon just after it has been punctured by a pin. Best viewed in the larger sizes. This was captured at 1/1000th second shutter speed. My grandson and I had an entire day of photography. We started early in the morning photographing red-wing blackbirds, swallows, and ducks at a little retention pond near his home. Then we shot more birds in his back yard. Then, we came to my house and punctured balloons, water balloons and played with giant bubbles. We had a ball! Spencer is a budding bird photographer and I hope to feature a few of his shots in the next few days. We are having new carpeting installed in part of our upstairs today. Lots of fun moving furniture and books to make way for the carpet layers. Hope you have a fun day, too! Thanks for all the nice comments on my most recent shot of the peony tulip.
146 Jun 3/11 Crabapple Blossoms A few weeks ago I finally bought a 400mm lens for wildlife shots. Haven't used it too much for birds or animals so I thought I would try it on flowers. This was taken off the deck which is a few feet higher than the tree.
