Tuesday, July 28, 2015 "OUTDOOR ROMPER ROOM" "Let's remember that our children's spirits are more important than any material things. When we do, self-esteem and love blossoms and grows more beautifully than any bed of flowers ever could." ~ Jack Canfield A "play date/play day" with our youngest grand-prince in one of several way too cool and gorgeous landscaped areas for the little ones to romp/pay or frolic boisterously! Have a terrific Tuesday! 7/28/15 - Sunflowers at the Farmer's Market I've been gone for a couple of days helping my kids who were exhibitors at a craft show in Boulder. Two very long days in the hot sun. I'm looking forward to seeing all your shots posted in my absence.

Hosta fever is due to fever type temperatures outside. I stay in the cool house. It was thirty c plus and hotter with the humidex. Can't breathe out there. Whew! The nights are beautiful though. 28/07/15

27.07.15 - The End or Just on Hold? A few years ago now a series of life changing events prompted me to try to make a living from my passion for photography, and so Light and Dreams Photography was born. It was tough at first, I did two other part-time jobs to help me get started, but eventually I started to make enough money to survive on. I've never made much money from photography, but then I neither expected to or wanted to, just enough to pay the bills. I made good contacts in the local tourist industry that led to a steady stream of contracts, I also sold lots of images straight from this website and got other regular work through word of mouth. I did some photo journalism, wrote regular articles for magazines, did some corporate websites, personal portfolios, production photography on various film projects, commissions were varied and fun. But times change. Now everyone has a digital camera, few people buy photos for wall art, many people don't even hire a professional for their wedding photos anymore, businesses won't pay for images, even large media outlets rely on free photos from the public rather than pay for them. I've lost count of the number of times I've been asked to donate an image for someone else's "project" or "promotion". Social media is full of photographic "competitions" that are just a front for gathering free images that someone can use rather than pay a professional. Photography hasn't paid my bills for a long time now, but I carried on, pig headed, trying to turn things around. But no more. Today I'm probably going to sell my gear to put towards the bills. This could be my last daily, I've not decided what to do about that yet, but I don't just want to post old photos every day. It is a sad day but it has been a long time coming. My Smugmug site will run up to Christmas, then I have to decide whether to close it too. Thank-you for all your kind words and support over the years. It was people on the Smugmug Dailies over 7 years ago that gave me the confidence to become a professional photographer in the first place, it was good while it lasted.

July 28. Yellow Stingray while diving in Isla Mujeres, Mexico. These are much smaller than the typical Southern Stingray, only grow up to 14 inches, and can change their tonality of color for camouflage purposes.
