October 6, 2014 This Rooster was definitely strutting his stuff, and King of the Yard. when we saw him at Pipe Springs National Monument in the Arizona strip. Isn't he a handome fellow? What is the Arizona Strip? According to Wikipedia: "The Strip is very typical of the American West in its red-rock canyon country, and the aridity of the climate, which leads to the predominance of sagebrush vegetation. The land is also dotted with juniper trees, moving into pinyon pine and juniper forests, and eventually ponderosa pines, spruce, firs, and aspen in the higher elevations such as the Kaibab Plateau. The Arizona Strip is the part of the U.S. state of Arizona lying north of the Colorado River. The difficulty of crossing the Grand Canyon causes this region to have more physical and cultural connections with southern Utah and Nevada than with the rest of Arizona." We found ourselves on the Arizona Strip at Pipe Spring National Monument, then a few miles and a dirt road we were back in Utah. Have a "cock a doodle day" today my friends! December 20, 2014 Since I showed you three of the grandchildren tubing on the lake in the photo yesterday, I thought I'd show you a fun shot of their youngest sister Eleanor. She's all tuckered out from the fun and excitement and has decided to take a little nap at athe back of the 'big boat'. Eleanor is 3-years old. I kind of feel a little like Eleanor. After two straight weeks on the road on business trips, getting home late yesterday afternoon (after a 3+ hour delay of the flight from Birmingham) from the most recent trip and then hosting Bill's company Christmas party (100 people) at our house last night, I think Eleanor has the right idea. Maybe a nap is in order for me sometime later today. :-) But not a long nap - I have to go to the grocery store and get food for the first of our family Christmas parties (with my sister - 17 people,) and get all the kids presents wrapped before 1:00 Sunday afternoon. The next family Christmas is 5:00 on December 27th - we'll have 22-25 people here. I'm looking forward to the week off between Christmas and New Years. I'm not complaining - I love the family time! Have a great day my friends! Thank you for your comments and critiques. Linda, http://lgood.smugmug.com
December 20, 2014 I may post more train photos but this is the last one for now.
19.12.14 - Dusk The dog (white blob bottom left) and I missed the sunset last night, but the sky was still quite nice down by the river. This is a 2 shot photomerge panorama comprising the whole sky, south (left) to west (right). Only a couple more nights and the sun will start it's journey back north across the sky and the days will get longer again :)
