Great Horned Owl - with some flash. Taken near Olympia, Wa. I meant to post this last night.
This shot contrasts the year round soft blue greens and mauves of the slates and copper cupola on the Michigan League with the seasonal scarlet of one of the most glorious red maples around, which stands in the courtyard of the League. DP305-2014 Posted November 1; processed ditto I feel as though I'm in a race against time to capture every last bit of the glorious fall color. Yesterday was a washout, literally, in that regard. I'm hoping for dry, if not sunny weather today. Taken October 30, 2014 Title: Local Color.
The fish market I had a chance to visit a large fish market by the harbour in Shimizu, Japan. There was an incredible variety of fresh and dried fish on sale and a lot of buying and selling activity. Julianne Savage asked about the mask. It is to prevent germs from spreading when someone has a cold or flu. It is quite common in Japan and China for people to wear face masks to prevent infections from spreading. 02/11/14 www.allenfotowild.com
Samhain. First Day of Irish Winter Samhain (Irish pronunciation: saun) is a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter or the "darker half" of the year. It is celebrated from sunset on 31 October to sunset on 1 November.. Historically, it was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man. Samhain is mentioned in some of the earliest Irish literature and is known to have pre-Christian roots. Many important events in Irish mythology happen or begin on Samhain. It was the time when cattle were brought back down from the summer pastures and when livestock were slaughtered for the winter. It is the first day of the Irish Winter. This was taken this day last year. Today it is overcast but mild. Thank you all very much for the all the comments and views for my Witch post yesterday. Saturday 1 November 2014

November 1,2014 Candy Apples for Halloween, but the cold rain kept the Trick or Treaters away. We got 33 kids and my little bags will be donated to a worthy cause .At least , it didn't snow. The clocks go back this weekend!!
This tower is all that remains of a ruined church called Burgh St Mary which is a listed building. There are lots of ruined churches, abbeys etc around here. Access to the ruin is via an extremely muddy farm track, then you have to fight your way through the overgrown woodland to reach the remains. Was hard to get to because of the mud and the thickness. Someone had put this chair there. I didn't like it at first, and moved it out of the way, but then decided it added interest as you might contemplate why someone was sitting there and why the chair had been brought in. Luckily there was no rubbish or graffiti in sight. Here is what the tower looks like from the road. But it's a lot harder to get to than we thought. To walk back, we went across the farmer's field which was a bit naughty. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~maureenmitchell/church_photographs/churches_norfolk/burgh_st_mary.jpg
November 1, 2014 While out in Western Maryland, we stopped at a farm for fresh produce and pumpkins. I thought this collection hanging inside the barn would make an interesting daily. In addition to the skulls, I liked the tree support beam.

Nov.1. I went to a Halloween party last night and it was decorated over the top. These dolls are just a small part of the decoration of the entire house. All but 2 of these were handmade and purchased from the same woman. In the center picture, these dresses are actual keepsakes of my friend and her sister from when they were little. She is not creepy at all despite this collection.
Saturday, November 1, 2014 "SEA SCARE" - Sponsored by Abbey Vincent's Family Project "A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor." ~ Unknown Author WOW, it's already November. Where did October go? Time is flying! Each year, I try to make the pilgrimage to see the larger-than-life scarecrows displayed around Lichterman Nature Center’s lawn. Lichterman Nature Center teams up with Memphis Area Master Gardeners, as well as District 1 of the National Federation of Garden Clubs, senior centers, classrooms, artists, and others, to create scores of life-sized, ecological, green, scary, silly, funny and educational scarecrows. View the entire gallery of scarecrows (2014) here: http://godschild.smugmug.com/Seasonal-Impressions-of-Fall/Scarevrows-Fall-Foliage-at-LNC Friendly Reminder: Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 2:00 AM. Fall back (aka "set your clocks back") 1 hour at that time. Have a safe weekend! November 1, 2014 This is my final shot that I will share in the mini-series of Upper Antelope Canyon photos from our vacation this summer. Thank you all so very much for your kind comments and critiques. I learn so much from this talented group of photographers each and every day. I still have more vacation photos to share with you. It's hard to believe how far behind I am in going through them all, but such is life. Bill and I will definitely go back to this place again and make sure we do the photographer's tour, and also visit the Lower Canyon as well. I highly recommend a visit to this amazing place. The eons over which water has carved this place are hard to imagine. But it's easy to see that the water was at times violent and gentle to craft such a mystical cove in our country. "Nature is so powerful, so strong. Capturing its essence is not easy - your work becomes a dance with light and the weather. It takes you to a place within yourself." ~ Annie Leibovitz Have a satisfying Saturday my friends! Linda http://lgood.smugmug.com
