Optimal illusions In this image of Lower Antelope Canyon, (#15) there are two optical illusions. At the lower sizes, at the center left edge, the illusion switches between the upper (lighter) part of the cliff being in the foreground and the lower (darker) part of the cliff being in the foreground. At the lower right edge, the illusion switches between the lighter vertical cliff being in the foreground and the darker vertical cliff being in the foreground. It is only are the largest sizes that it is possible to work out the actual geometry. Other photos from Lower Antelope Canyon can be seen here: http://goo.gl/9xDlOj 20/10/14 www.allenfotowild.com
October 20, 2014 Bill and I walked (climbed in some cases) down to get a better view of the Colorado River behind the Glen Canyon Dam overlook near Page, Arizona. As we were making our trek closer to the river, I noticed these two young men who had abandoned the path, and had climbed up on the rocks to enjoy the view. They did have a great view and they seemed very relaxed as they talked and took photos of the river and just "chilled out." Thank you for all your comments yesterday on another of my Upper Antelope Canyon shots. You all keep me focused on bettering my skills. Thank you. I'm leaving on a jet plane (remember that song?) this morning for another week-long business trip away from home & hubby. Sigh. I'll do my best to comment while I'm living in the hotel, customer meetings, late nights......I can say though that Smugmug will be the highlights of my evenings while I'm away. I'm already looking forward to the flight home on Friday, sadly though Bill is traveling for work this week too but he won't be home until Sunday evening. Oh well, such is the life of the road warriors - Barr61 understands. Have a great week my friends! "It's really important to have balance, spend some time in nature, go to a few parties, enjoy my friends and really chill out." ~Joakim Noah Have a "chill-out" sort of day today my friends! Scarlet Bodied Wasp Moth on Bidens. Natural Area Teaching Lab, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. 2014. I had never seen this moth before today and when I looked it up online I was interested to discover that it uses Climbing Hempvine (Mikania scandens) as its larval host plant. According to BugGuide, the moth exhibits warning coloration, yet the caterpillar feeds on a non-toxic plant. But the adult male moth "extracts toxins known as 'pyrrolizidine alkaloids' from Dogfennel Eupatorium (Eupatorium capillifolium) and showers these toxins over the female prior to mating. This is the only insect known to transfer a chemical defense in this way." Here is a link to an article from the University of Florida IFAS about the interesting habits of this beautiful moth. http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/BFLY/MOTH2/scarlet_bodied_wasp_moth.html
October 20, 2014 Another pumpkin house from The Dallas Arboretum. We are starting to see a few fall colors in our area. Hopefully the next few weeks we will start to see things change. Have an amazing week! Jeanne
One Tree House: I was out at a farm in Ipswich, MA with the family (we were buying pumpkins) when this scene caught my eye. I'm not quite sure why this appeals to me. There's really nothing special about it....Happy Monday! 10/20/2014

October 20, 2014 Black Walnut Point Inn - A Tilghman Island, Maryland Bed & Breakfast A secluded gem, this Maryland private island estate has been sealed off by Russian spies, the first Gulf War was planned in the sunroom, and Truman Capote was a guest in the 60's. Now the sanctuary gate secures the half-mile drive through 52 acres of bird sanctuary before opening to our 6 acre island of gardens and lawn. The sun rises over the Choptank River and sets over the Chesapeake Bay, which make wind, waves and endless water views the hallmark. A pair of nesting eagles, resident osprey, migrating butterflies, waterfowl and songbirds are commonly seen along with Bay dolphin; and the back cove is a spawning grounds for rockfish. At night the stars are uninterrupted, another surprise of nature, making lodging at Black Walnut Point Inn a quiet, secret place of peace - all just an hour and a half from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. http://www.blackwalnutpointinn.com/index.htm
Monday, October 20, 2014 "THE GREAT OUTDOORS" "In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks." ~ John Muir This was photographed during an impromptu visit while I was in the city. My first planned visit to this park was on September 6, 2008. Can you spot the young lad? View my complete "Gone With the Wind" gallery of photos from each visit here: http://godschild.smugmug.com/Television/Old-Mill "Hail State!"
