May 7, 2015 Some time ago, I was contacted by a University asking to use some of my photos in a textbook for children with learning disabilities. The book was to be filled with everyday things to help the children learn to recognize the aspects of the world around them. They included plants, flowers, trees, birds, insects, and a lot of everyday things. They chose three of my photos to use, and I was thrilled. In each they removed the background and isolated the subject. The University then sent the isolated subject photos back to me for approval. This is one of those that was chosen, and that they isolated. I wish I had the skills to do this type of work in Photoshop, but I don't....yet. I'm still hanging on to the dream of taking PS classes when I retire. "And in the end it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."~ Abraham Lincoln Thank you for your comments and critiques! Have an inspirational day today my friends! Linda http://www.smugmug.com
06.05.15 - Bikes for Hire Last year these hire bikes appeared around town as an experiment to tempt people to use their cars less. It obviously worked as they have recently opened many more hire bike stations, including this one near where I live. Anything that encourages people to get out of their cars has to be a good thing in my book for so many reasons. Today is election day in the UK. With no one knowing what the outcome will be it is the most exciting for many years, watch this space....
Thursday, May 7, 2015 "MYRIAD OF RIBBONS" "Each day comes bearing its own gifts. Untie the ribbons." ~ Ruth Ann Schabacker Color my world! I love bright, bold, and vivid colors. Does that make me a "Colorholic?" Why, of course! Don't let anyone or anything (e.g. photo rankings) steal your HAPPY. Remember, "he/she who angers you, controls you - and that's too much power to give anybody. Thanks for perusing, commenting on, and/or giving my photos a "thumbs up." Hang in there; tomorrow is Friday! Margaret's Garden, Gifts, and Florist 205 N. Hayden Street Belzoni, MS (photo taken 3/28/2015; frame applied 5/3/2015) My Homepage: www.Godschild.SmugMug.com

Wednesday, May 6, 2015 "TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK" 2015 "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” ~ William Ward This week (May 4-8, 2015) is National Teacher Appreciation Week. Those of you who have been a member of the Daily Photos Community for a while know that both of my parents and an aunt are retired educators. Also, my grandmother and an aunt (both deceased) were retired educators. Currently, I have a sister, first cousin, and a few associates who are educators. It's true that teachers make all other professions possible; yet, they are often overlooked, underrated, unappreciated, and underpaid. Perhaps, Valerie Strauss of The Washington Post said it best: "Imagine if we celebrated teachers as much as we celebrate athletes and celebrities." Thank a teacher today! ***#1 photo of the day*** (collage created and frames applied on 5/5/2015) My Homepage: www.Godschild.SmugMug.com
