The light on the grass pulled me to this scene in Jerome, Arizona.
Sunset view from Shwesandaw Pagoda towards the Irrawaddy River, Bagan, Mayanmar The clouds mimic the shape of the hills, which in turn mimic the shapes of the stupas. The river is in the smoke-filled depression before the start of the hills, and is barely apparent as a couple of bright spots in the image at the base of the hills (best seen at larger sizes). Paul Bellinger asked about how it was to travel in Myanmar. No problems, whatsoever. The people were wonderful, we encountered little or no bureaucracy, the accommodations were excellent and the food was great. We had arranged a private tour for just the 5 of us, and had an English-speaking guide and a driver at each location. This was not expensive at all and the guide knew where to take us for good photography. The local artisans were incredible, using historical techniques to create their masterpieces; these techniques have all but disappeared from Westernized cultures. Some pics of this will follow, but I am still pretty far behind on my editing, and am about to disappear on another adventure.

August 5, 2013 Another close up of the cactus buds. I'm traveling for business again this week, so I may be a little remiss in commenting, but I'll catch up when I can. I have to say a very humble thank you for all the comments on my "Delighted Daredevil" shot of grandson Benjamin that was my "D" entry into Donna's alphabet challenge. It was so neat to see it in the #1 spot about 6:20 PM, CST yesterday. Wow! I'm blown away. Thanks to you all. The shot was a labor of love, there's so many grandkids shots in my portfolio, but this one will always be one to treasure. Have a great week! Linda
Monday, December 22, 2014 "SEARS, ROEBUCK AND COMPANY KIT HOUSE" "I think we've taken the meaning of Christmas out. People don't stop and think about Jesus or the birth of Jesus. When they think of Christmas, they think of Santa Claus and - for the children, and they think of giving gifts and out-giving the next person of spending their time looking for the right thing for somebody who has everything." ~ Billy Graham Countdown to Christmas.........3 days away! This is one of four "kit" houses that I photographed. If you're interested, the collage featuring the other three houses is here: http://godschild.smugmug.com/HolidaysHoliday-Travel/Thanksgiving2014/i-xKHSdmT/A Did you know......."Between 1908 and 1940, Sears customers ordered about75,000 houses from Sears Roebuck and Company mail-order catalogs. Sears kit homes contained 30,000 pieces, including 750 pounds of nails,27 gallons of paint and a 75-page instruction book. Sears estimated that the average carpenter would charge $450 to assemble those 30,000 pieces of house. The painter's fee: $34.50. Sears estimated that other skilled labor would cosst$1 an hour. Prices for these built-it-yourself kit houses ranged from $600 to $6000." ~ Reprinted text from here: http://www.oldhouseweb.com/architecture-and-design/the-houses-that-sears-built.shtml To learn more about kit houses and how to identify them, check out the official website of Rose Thompson, author of "The Houses That Sears Built" here: http://www.searshomes.org Have a marvelous Monday and don't forget to put yourself on your "to do" list! 10-27-2009 - "Four Ghouls" - Continuing our play in the leaves series, here the boys got this idea to pretend to be ghouls coming out of the leaf pile...we added some skeletons for effect...they sure did get a kick out of the final version. "Dad, can we get this on a canvas mount?" Gotta love children of photographers.

August 4, 2013 D is for Delighted, Daredevil! We had grandson Hunter's 5th birthday and his sister Kaylin's 2nd birthday at the local pool. Of course all of the cousins and friends were there and we virtually had the whole pool to ourselves. The pool has a small water slide which of course was a big hit with the kids. This is grandson Benjamin who got on the slide at the top belly down. This is a shot of him as he flew off the end of the slide, and seconds before he hit the water. I love the look on his face, he is indeed delighted. And when it comes to water he is a fearless little daredevil. Have a blessed Sunday my friends. Linda PS -Thanks Donna McCommon for creating this challenge!!
