Monday, March 2, 2015 "SNOW BITTEN" "Nature has no mercy at all. Nature says, 'I'm going to snow. If you have on a bikini and no snowshoes, that's tough. I am going to snow anyway.'" ~ Dr. Maya Angelou Here's another photo from the four to five inches of snow that fell in our city last Wednesday - this time, a tree in our backyard and another one in the background. I noticed the small pieces of ice hanging from the branch, also. Photo is SOOC at 50mm, manual mode (although my camera does have a scene mode for beach/snow). The complete "Snow What Fun" 2015 gallery is here: http://godschild.smugmug.com/Weather/Ice-and-Snow-2015/ Have a marvelous Monday! (photo taken 2/26/2015) My Homepage: www.Godschild.smugmug.com

March 1, 2015 Saturday my husband and I went on a quick day trip to take photos of covered bridges in Lancaster County. We thought we were prepared but it turns out we were not. Next time I will get cross street address of each bridge. We did manage to find 4. This bridge was almost lost to fire in November of last year. A neighbor of the bridge was up tending to a sick child when he spotted a small fire in the bridge and immediately called 911 Below is a bit of history on the bridge. Herr’s Mill Covered Bridge “The Kissing Bridge" The original bridge, built in 1844 by descendants of Hans Herr at a cost of $1,787, evidently was destroyed. The existing span was built in 1875 for $1,860 and repaired in 1955 after Hurricane Hazel blew off its roof. The wind dropped the roof, intact, directly across the creek, creating a second span across the Pequea. Amish children, it was reported, used the roof as a foot bridge on their way back and forth to school. The current bridge was renovated in 1972 and again in 1978. The Herr's Mill Bridge is the county's longest covered bridge at 178 feet. It crosses both Pequea Creek and the mill race that once drove the waterwheel that turned the mill's grindstones. The bridge is the only double-span covered bridge in the county and one of very few anywhere in the country. http://lancasteronline.com/news/local/parent-tending-sick-child-discovers-fire-at-historic-herr-s/article_b6b2e32e-6e49-11e4-a4c5-cb8a4e3a7897.html
02MAR2015 Council Bluffs Iowa A dreary but productive day, shot this mid Feb. in the blowing snow and cold. Thanks for looking at the work today….have a great day!
03/01/15 - March Tablescape My Blog I put away the red and got out the green yesterday as I converted my kitchen table from a Valentine's Day theme to a St. Patrick's Day theme.  Time for the March tablescape!  I had quite a few choices of green placemats, napkins, and Corelle plates, and as usual, I couldn't pick just one.  I ended up going with a mix of Corelle Peach Garland plates and another Corelle pattern that I just cannot identify...sigh.     All the items on the table are from the thrift store Guardian Angel except the fish bowl, the candles which are Partylite, and the green Hazel Atlas block glass.  I found the green glass in with my grandmother's glassware, and I just love them as does Johnny since his favorite color is green. I was short two goblets and ordered a couple off eBay which should be here this week. My favorite find is that awesome large vase that came with the flowers already arranged.  I never could arrange silk flowers, and I don't have many, well any, in my home, but these looked so great that I just couldn't resist.     We now have a visitor to our table.  I wonder what mischief will result! 3/2/15 - I took a couple of tomatoes and plopped them into the snow. I like the contrasts and simplicity. Thanks for your warm response to my still life challenge shot. I appreciate your taking the time to leave your thoughts.

I'M GONNA KEEP SNACKING FOR AWHILE. THE SQUIRRELS SEEM TO KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES THE SNOW TO HIDE THEIR SNACKS. WE HAVE A POSSUM WHO COMES OUT AT NIGHT TOO. 02/03/15
