Juvenile Barn Swallows - near Olympia, Wa. Taken in 2010. Since I haven't had much time for photography lately I sent my camera in for much needed cleaning and service. Hopefully I will have it back in a few weeks.

18.04.14 - In The Pink These are Cuckoo Flowers, a beautiful delicate little wildflower that I found yesterday. Thanks to Mary McCahill who corrected me when I mistakenly called them "water violets" on Facebook yesterday :) Today is the first of several days filming "Tell Them of Us", it is going to be a very busy week!

Granite boulders, Tajung Tinggi Beach, Belitung Island, Sumatra, Indonesia There's something special about a beach that has large granite boulders, which are not that common. The photos posted today are the last few of the photos that I took on my trip that circumnavigated the large island of Sumatra. The rest of the last photos can be seen here: http://goo.gl/0BIfK9 The entire set of 14 galleries from the Circumnavigation of Sumatra can be seen here: http://goo.gl/XxOepw 19/04/14 www.allenfotowild.com
April 19, 2014 I went back to the Dallas Arboretum Thursday. What an amazing place! They were removing, cataloging and bagging the 500k + spring bulbs from the beds and replanting for the summer weather to come. The trees were leafed out and the azaleas stunning. This very handsome guy was in one of the lower ponds. I knelt at the edge of the pond and ultimately ended up on my elbow to get lower for the shot. Thankfully I was with a friend who didn't mind that I had dirty knees and elbows for the rest of the day. ;-) No one at lunch seemed to notice the mud or they were just too polite to point. Either way it was worth the muddy knees! Thank you so much for your information and comments concerning the Iris shot and the ring flash. I plan on taking Byron's suggestion of renting one. What a great way to experiment with new equipment Have a beautiful weekend Jeanne
Saturday, April 19, 2014 "SILLY RABBIT...." I would have posted this one tomorrow (Easter Sunday), but tomorrow is also "N" day of Judy's (aka fotoeffects) "Alphabet Shapes Challenge" and I want to stay in sync. I am ready; are you? Have a safe weekend! (photo taken 4/16/2014)
Daily Post 1143- 109/365 4/19/2014 - A Ktchen Scene We were invited in to a number of homes when walking through Havana. The leader of our tour group has cultured some lovely relationships in the years he has been traveling and taking people through the streets of Havana. It is alway interesting in every country I've visited to see inside the homes of others when we travel. Though the kitchen is old and worn, it was not dirty..like Maria's that I showed you before a few weeks ago..the walls are worn, the porcelain of the sinks is worn, but that was from the effort to maintain as well as they can. The tools are neatly hung up and kitchen items are put in their place..it's just worn. The most interesting thing that struck me is that here as well as on numerous clothes lines those little plastic bags we tend to throw away are washed, dried and reused..over and over again… We are off to NYC today so though I posted late last night I'm now posting early today so I don't miss my routine in case we get home too late tonight. Have a good day!
April 19, 2014 This was a huge display at the Safari Club International, another taxidermy promotion at SCI. The bear, the walrus (I think) and the wolves were once alive, and now sadly not. The backdrop was painted. I really have appreciated the comments and thoughts about the last several photos that I've posted from the safari show - are they controversial..........yes they are. I don't agree with killing animals - but many people do. I've shared my last few days of photos with you to spur conversation and not offend. I have appreciated your comments very much. We all do what we have to do to make a living. This world was Bill's first successful product, so we still pay homage to it. For me, I couldn't shoot an animal, but I would so love to go on a safari armed with just my camera. In years past, I've pretty much avoided showing you the taxidermy examples unless they were in a crowd seen, but that's not giving you the full measure of the show. It's really almost unbelievable that so many people come to this show, but so they do. This is the last photo of a mount that I will post. You may see random animal mounts in the shots that I will share of the craziness that is the moving out of the displays as soon as the final bell is rung. Thanks for your comments. I'm looking forward to the alphabet challenge tomorrow." "Without courage, wisdom bears no fruit." ~ Baltasar Graciana Give a loved one a bear-hug today my friends.
