26.07.15 - Fight the Good Fight Yesterday I posted a shot of the fascist English Defence League and their rally against the building of a new mosque in Lincoln, this was the counter demonstration.
'D' is for daily devouring of decadently delicious deli delights! Deli at Kalakawai Market, Kailua, Oahu with loads of details (and delights) at larger sizes. Update: This market and deli is a perfect example of old Hawaii (as opposed to the glitz and crowds of Waikiki). It has been a part of life for the community on the east side of Oahu since 1932, and tourists rarely go there. Last year it won 3rd place in the Honolulu Magazine Hale’Aina Awards for the Best Neighbourhood Restaurant. This is the kind of place I love to find and photograph. The photo was taken in a very quick break between the constant stream of customers who obscured the food display, so there wasn't an opportunity to control the lighting. I considered TheSideStreet's suggestion about focussing more light on the cute guy (which could have been done after the fact in Photoshop), but decided that he is a part of the overall scene and not the focus of the photo. 'D' is also for Dill, Dog, and Ducks, Ducks, and more Ducks; see here: http://goo.gl/qn5Oap
Hosta fever is due to fever type temperatures outside. I stay in the cool house. It was thirty c plus and hotter with the humidex. Can't breathe out there. Whew! The nights are beautiful though. 28/07/15
The marbled godwit is a large shorebird. On average, it is the largest of the 4 species of godwit. The total length is 40–50 cm, including a large bill of 8–13 cm, and wingspan is 70–88 cm. Body mass can vary from 240 to 510 g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marbled_godwit Bolsa Chica Wetlands Huntington Beach, CA Not positive about the ID of this bird, as many look so similar. If you recognize it as something other, please advise. Thanks! Thanks for viewing, commenting and critiquing my photos! And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? 5th year Pic 016 - July - 26 2013. Mittey Touse and Pulto! - Anika's shoes Some of you had commented on Anika's shoes in her 'Off to school' pic. Here you can see them clearly. She calls them Mittey Touse and Pulto shoes! Critiques welcome!
Sometimes the mind forms an impression of a scene that is more vivid (or more something, or even less something) than the camera records. That was the case of this view of morning light pouring down a hillside on the far side of the little lake, and lighting up the new leaves of the willow tree on the near side. I played around with several Topaz Lab filters/effects, and will probably continue to do more playing around. Of the ones I have tried so far, this is my favorite. A version of the original ( http://smu.gs/1fugKLy ) along with any filtered versions, can be seen in my 'Fun with Filters' gallery (https://arctangent.smugmug.com/Photography/Creative-Alterations/Fun-with-filters/10668106_75xhP9) DP206-2015 Posted Saturday, July 25 I have a small window of free time today that I can use for posting a picture in my DP gallery, and for leaving a few comments. My friend is home now. We have had a week in which to establish routines for his care and feeding. It is proving more challenging than I imagined it would be, but it is still wonderful to have him here. I keep telling myself it will get easier as I get more used to doing what needs to be done and as he recovers his strength and mobility. I'm not sure I will ever get used to all the doctors visits away from home and all the in home visits from care professionals. Not sure I even want to get used to that. Monday, May 16, 2011 "442 CUTLASS OLDSMOBILE" (The Metamorphosis) "It allows you to say things that sound very dramatic and get away with it. If you had characters in modern fiction say the same things as they're driving down the street in an Oldsmobile, they'd sound ludicrous." ~ Terry Goodkind Slight pp; uncropped Here's another Lgood inspired automobile capture. This cobalt blue baby was one of my hubby's favorites in the show. Unfortunately, there was not an information card, but while we were at the car show, my hubby (who loves antique cars) informed me that this is a "442 Cutlass Olds." He also stated that the chrome on the rear bumper, in all likelihood, has been redone. You can see a glimpse of my black / white animal print jacket and red cape in the bumper. There was a chilly breeze and the temps had dropped to mid 50s. Yes, I did some pp with this one, but it is uncropped. The original can be viewed here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/16609546_tdrqK#1274849706_xFHRmdP Also, I did some research and according to Wikipedia, "The Oldsmobile 442 (pronounced four-four-two) was a muscle car produced by the Oldsmobile division of General Motors. It was introduced as an option package for F-85 and Cutlass models sold in the United States beginning with the 1964 model year. It became a model in its own right from 1968 to 1971, then reverted to an option through the mid-1970s. Oldsmobile revived the name in the 1980s on the rear-wheel drive Cutlass Supreme and early 1990s as an option package for the new front-wheel drive Cutlass." (Reprinted text from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldsmobile_442) Furthermore, I am overwhelmingly and humbly appreciative of your comments on yesterday's "Antique Chevy." It landed in the #2 spot. Congrats to my friend sharkbayte whose "Clouds" pic was #1. View it here: http://sharkbayte.smugmug.com/Photography/2011-Daily-Photos/15280496_zofpQ#1291649048_zdNjmgz Enjoy today; a "blue" Monday may not be so bad after all (smile). ***#1 photo of the day and all time*** Show Your Ride Car Show Memphis, TN My Homepage: http://www.Godschild.smugmug.com
19.12.10 - Merry Christmas to One and All I usually wait until nearer the time before sending out my Smug Christmas cards, but the chaotic way things have been the last few days I thought I'd better "post early" in case events get in the way later. I actually joined Smugmug 3 years ago this Christmas Day, and the friendships that have followed have been one of the big positives of that time. In a world that sometimes looks like it wants to polarise itself to death, watching the planet turn on the Smugmug Dailies is a timely reminder that whoever we are, there are far more things that we have in common than divide us.
146 Jun 3/11 Crabapple Blossoms A few weeks ago I finally bought a 400mm lens for wildlife shots. Haven't used it too much for birds or animals so I thought I would try it on flowers. This was taken off the deck which is a few feet higher than the tree.

Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs has fantastic views, throw in a thunder storm and things get real interesting. Sharp eyed viewers will spot a climber on one of the formations.
