Thursday, August 28, 2014 "A QUIET MAN vs A QUIET WOMAN" “Few people make sound or sustainable decisions in an atmosphere of chaos. The more serious the situation, usually accompanied by a deadline, the more likely everyone will get excited and bounce around like water on a hot skillet. At those times, I try to establish a calm zone but retain a sense of urgency. Calmness protects order, ensures that we consider all the possibilities, restores order when it breaks down, and keeps people from shouting over each other. You are in a storm. The captain must steady the ship, watch all the gauges, listen to all the department heads, and steer through it. If the leader loses his head, confidence in him will be lost and the glue that holds the team together will start to give way. So assess the situation, move fast, be decisive, but remain calm and never let them see you sweat.” ~ General Colin Luther Powell, excerpt from "It Worked for Me: In Life and Leadership" And might I add that although the Bible declares that........"in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength." ~ Isaiah 30:15 (The Bible, KJV), sadly, the Israelites chose to trust in men instead of God. 08.28.14 After the baptism we went to lunch at a Japanese place. It was very nice. They took this photo pf our group. The only children/significant other missing are Spencer & Symone. From back--Melina & Taylor, McKay, Emma & Noori Front--Me, EL Jay $ Splash (the Baptism Bear), Jeddy & Delaney. Busy day yesterday at Huntsman. By the time I got home, helped El Jay with homework and chores, rested, ate dinner, etc.... I did not get back here to comment. Thank you to those of you who did comment on my image.
Aug.28. One of the last days of Summer. This was still part of my trip with DycasStudios, having fun shooting even on a cloudy summer day.
When that pink hits your eye Like a bubble gum pie - That's hibiscus! When the blooms seems to shine 'cause the weather is fine - That's hibiscus. DP239-2014 Posted August 27; processed ditto. I lost internet service during a period of severe thunderstorms yesterday afternoon, before I had left any comments for the day, and only got it back this morning. So apologies for not responding to all the lovely comments left yesterday for my own shot. You have to be pretty old to recognize my lame parody of the tune from the 1950's, 'That's Amore', made popular by Dean Martin (originial lyrics here, for example: http://www.metrolyrics.com/thats-amore-lyrics-dean-martin.html) Lots of hibiscus are in bloom around town - almost like a second season of blooms, but none were any larger than these, which were the size of salad plates, fully 8-9 inches across. 08.28.14 I spied this picture while in the examining room yesterday and it made Indigo and I miss New Mexico. I posed Indigo for a photo. I met with my new surgeon yesterday. One more infusion left. Several more appointments in September--MRI, plastic surgeon, surgeon again, etc.....we penciled in surgery for October 3rd, but then the nurse saw it was Yom Kippur and the surgeon is Jewish. Tentatively, we are thinking the 10th of October--the Surgeon says 4 to 6 weeks after chemo to get the white blood cell count up, etc.... After I got home and looked at my calendar. I'm thinking October 17th.
"Once Upon a Time"...08/28/2014... This started out as a Coca-Cola can...
27.08.14 - Sleep I did some more experimenting with matching stills from the film with quotes from Robert Crowder's letters from the Front to produce publicity postcards for Tell Them of Us yesterday. I've been struggling with a bad back since the weekend and have had to cancel some work this week. It is also difficult sitting at the computer for any length of time, but I have to be fit enough for tomorrow and Saturday as both are big filming days. As the filming draws to a close we are moving onto publicity material and planning film showings etc, it is all fascinating and keeps the creative juices flowing :)
