Many windows in the buildings which make up the Law Quad on the University of Michigan central campus contain geometric designs executed in glass that has a variety of colors and textures. The surfaces of the panes are not so rough that they don't throw back to the viewer reflections of their surroundings, which typically are even more colored than the glass itself. Nor are they so opaque that you can't catch glimpses of the rooms that lie beyond the windows. With the changing angle of the sun, and the changing seasons and weather, any such window never looks exactly the same twice. DP260-2014 Posted September 17; processed September 16 from an image taken ditto. See the original shot of this window in its stone embrasure here: http://smu.gs/1uFhAZQ Thanks to all the good sports who tried to guess what yesterday's abstract was derived from (a caterpillar) regardless of whether you got it right, and for all the continued support of my self-indulgent, open-ended series of abstracts of whatever catches my eye. Title: Abstract - Colored and Textured Glass in Campus Window IN8083 (eleventh in the current series)

Letting it all go on a Dingle Peninsula Beach
September 17, 2014 This is a 3 shot (RAW) HDR from our walk through the Narrows (Virgin River) at Zion National Park. I wasn't totally pleased with this shot, but decided to post anyway because it does give a good sense of the immense walls. You can see people hiking ahead of us. The sun was really harsh and therefore the canyon walls that were exposed to the sun, like the one in the upper right quadrant of this photo, were difficult to keep from being blown out. In hindsight, I should have upped the exposures to 5 or 7 rather than 3. Oh well, next time......... "Utah is one of the most beautiful states in the Union." ~ Me Have a gigantic day today my friends! Linda http://lgood.smugmug.com

Sept 17 - Aspen Row I love Aspen trees and decided to take this image of a row of them - I would really like to capture them after the leaves turn yellow, but I was there when they hadn't turned yet. We don't have them where I live. I processed this image to make it more like a watercolor. Thanks for your comments on my little red barn on the hill image I posted yesterday!
9/17/14 - Thunderbird, 1957? We were eating lunch at one of the food trucks locations and I saw this fantastic old T-bird pulling up to the stop light. I always wanted a T-bird. Thanks for your comments on my backlit sunflower.
9/17/2014 ~ Turquoise and Brick Found in a tiny central Texas town. It looks as though they put stucco over the brick, but time has caused the stucco to fall off in spots. Thank you for the kind comments on yesterday's shot of the alien spider crab! (Thanks Terry! That's definitely what it is)
Wednesday, September 17, 2014 "BLO-VOID I" by Ron Arad (2006) "Art is not what you see but what you make others see." ~ Degas "One of the most influential contemporary designers today, London based Ron Arad has been an important critical influence on design since the 1980s, when England emerged as a vital contributor to the field. With its sculptural vitality, this futuristic looking chair furthers Arad's exploration of volume that began in the 1990s. Its striking form was made possible by technological developments in computer assisted design. The polished, reflective sides are made from a super plastic aluminum alloy that has been blown into a mold using an air pressure technique developed for the aerospace industry. The seat and back, or "belt," as Arad calls it, is made of woven aluminum wire tinted blue through the anodization process, the designer's first experimentation in the use of color on metal." 16.09.14 - Focus This is from my guided photo walk round the old part of Lincoln last night. It was a beautiful warm late summer evening without a cloud in the sky. The lack of cloud meant no sunset to speak of, but the light was wonderful and we played around with diferent ways to shoot sights that have been photographed millions of times before. This is Lincoln Cathedral from Castle Square as you've never seen it before. Depth of field and point of focus is a fascinating subject, it can drastically change the scene and create some stunning effects very easily. One day I want to try this with small model figures in the foreground, I think that would be cool :)

2015 Calendar - Not yet complete I've reached May. I need to finish it in the next two weeks so that it will be ready to sell in time for Advent. This year's theme is "Transitions - Bridges and Stairways in Vienna". The entire design is mine: A4 wall calendar with a spiral binding, Austrian and US holidays. P.S. Critiques particularly welcome.
