Flamingo eye There is a world class bird park, Parque Das Aves, just outside the entry gates to Foz do Iguacu waterfalls. Early in the morning the flamingos (Phoenicopterus chilensis) seemed to be sleeping with their heads tucked back under their wings...but not quite asleep, as this juvenile's open eye shows. 26/11/14 www.allenfotowild.com
Alternate title: Pick Up Sticks. This is another of my 'goofing around' cocktails of color and form. I started with a fairly standard image of a detail of agave leaves - always interesting in their own right. I 'squarized' that and did a number of color transformations, using various gradient maps, with subsequent applications of the colored pencil filter in a few cases. DP330-2014 Posted Wednesday, November 26; created ditto The original agave leaf image can be seen here: http://smu.gs/1vMPkGV It was taken November 24 at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens conservatory. Wednesday, November 26, 2014 "THE SEASON HAS CHANGED; FALL NOW REIGNS" "Fall colors are funny. They're so bright and intense and beautiful. It's like nature is trying to fill you up with color, to saturate you so you can stockpike it before winter turns everything muted and dreary." ~ Siobhan Vivian It's Thanksgiving Eve...... American coots (Fulica americana, family Rallidae) massed for their migration south for the winter. This is the first waterfowl I see, typically, that isn't a local resident when it comes time for migrating birds to pass through the area. It is also the one I see in largest numbers. According to Wikipedia, 'cover' or 'raft' are the correct terms for groups of coots. Though often referred to as ducks, coots are not closely related to true ducks, which are in the Anatidae family. Sunday, May 15, 2011 "ANTIQUE CHEVY" (pp version) "Keep calm and drive a Chevy!" ~ Unknown Author Linda (aka Lgood) is one of the absolute best at capturing automobile shots and their reflections, and I immediately thought of her when I spotted this GM classic. Unfortunately, there wasn't an information card, so I am unsure as to the year of this "oldie but goodie." My hubby's guess is it's a "1930 something Chevy." The pink sign made spectators chuckle. It warned, "UNLESS YOU ARE NUDE.....PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH MY CHEVY! BUCKLES, BELTS, AND BUTTONS SCRATCH." As you can see, I did some pp with this one, but it is uncropped. Saturday, July 2, 2011 "1955 FORD FAIRLANE TOWN SEDAN" “Vision without execution is just hallucination.” ~ Henry Ford Here's my very 1st HDR pp image........best viewed in XLarge!! A special thanks to Lgood's husband Bill (owner of a Ford Fairlane) who stated that this is "a 1955 (maybe a '66) but nearly certain it is a '55." This multi-colored Ford Fairlane Town Sedan was my favorite in the show. I love the bright colors that changed depending upon the angle from which it was viewed. If you look real close, you will see reflections galore in this one, most notably a red Chevy pickup that was parked beside it. According to Wikipedia, "The Ford Fairlane was an automobile model sold between 1955 and 1970 by the Ford Motor Company in North America. The name was taken from Henry Ford's estate, Fair Lane, near Dearborn, Michigan. Over time, the name referred to a number of different cars in different classes; the Fairlane was initially a full-size car but became a mid-size car from the 1962 model year. The mid-sized model spawned the Australian-built Fairlane in 1967, although it was considered a large car there." Your comments regarding my first "major" pp work on yesterday's T-Bird were both inspiring and appreciated. By the way, my hubby and our two sons are the "vintage vehicle/car buffs." ***#4 photo of the day and all-time*** (photo taken 6/11/2011) My Homepage: http://www.Godschild.smugmug.com
Friday, April 6, 2012 "WHAT IS IT?" “Each of us, famous or infamous, is a role model for somebody, and if we aren't, we should behave as though we are -- cheerful, kind, loving, courteous; because you can be sure someone is watching and taking deliberate and diligent notes.” ~ Dr. Maya Angelou Can you guess what this is? Special effects or not? Even I was amazed at how this turned out, as I was just playing around with various shots. It does look like an abstract and a work of art, in my opinion. I genuinely appreciate your comments on the table setting post yesterday; it landed in the #2 spot. Please know that I look forward to perusing and commenting on your outstanding photos, also. Each day, I am so honored to be a part of a community of people who share a like passion for photography. Today is Good Friday and a day off for most people, including moi......woo hoo!! Have a safe and blessed "Resurrection Weekend," my friends. ***#1 photo of the day and all-time*** (photo taken 4/1/2012) My Homepage: http://www.Godschild.smugmug.com
February 21, 2011 - "Restoration Questionable" This vehicle is on display in front of some Key West stores. I did some research and believe that nameplate on the hood is part of the original vehicle. Your response to my Key West sunset image was greatly appreciated.
