Early morning hay field.
Pacific-slope Flycatcher - taken near Olympia, Wa.
Badger - Snake River Birds or Prey area. Back lit and very underexposed. As usual I wish the sun had been on the other side.
1-16: Thursday morning we woke up to thick fog again. It lasted till about noon. I was able to go out on my lunch break and take some shots along the river right after the fog lifted. The fog had frozen to the tree branches and bushes. I was able to get some shots before it all melted.
Day 37 - Love Thank you for all the great comments. I was quite nervous taking this set of flower photos for a wedding catalog because the flowers were to be used for a wedding the next morning. The client was rushing me in worries that the flowers being out of the refrigerator too long and its losing freshness. It was my first job shooting flowers commercially and that was quite an experience, to say the least.
Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs has fantastic views, throw in a thunder storm and things get real interesting. Sharp eyed viewers will spot a climber on one of the formations.
11/23/10 - Tree in the Fog I have been watching and studying this tree for a couple of years now. Whenever there is fog, it seems to stand out from the backdrop...a solitary, lonely figure. I finally made up my mind yesterday to figure out where to park the car to get out to take a picture...not a small feat. I do try to stay safe, but this location is more precarious than some. Most days I am joyful as I spend time with the kids. My life is full of laughter and color; it's vibrant and full of life like many of my pictures. But some days at least deep inside it is like this too. I guess a bit of that side is slipping through today. I stopped to think about my mother for a few minutes when I took this. She was involved in a horrible traffic accident with a tractor trailer on a foggy morning in November just before Thanksgiving in 1985. For me, the fog will always be more than just the fog. Back to bright and cheery tomorrow I promise... Thanks for your comments on Johnny and the Jon boat. It was as serene out there as you thought. Little wind, warm sun on our skin, very few boats out on the lake...a calming hour without the chaos of life. HAGD, Maryann
12/21. Big Sur Sunset and waves_DSC1781. I captured this at Sunset in the middle of the rocks and waves. The waves would come crashing in and through this little trough between the rocks. My friend I was shooting with got stuck down in the trough when the wave came in and almost lost his camera! Wow! Thanks for the awesome comments on my image! My SmugMug site has other images you should check out and also follow my latest on my Facebook Page here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Yosemite-and-Bay-Area-Nature-Photography-by-John-Harrison/190152125697
Hummingbird - I am a bit ambivalent about this shot because the hummer's iridescence is just SOOO high voltage, but I decided that maybe it was worth featuring as a daily. This is best viewed in the largest sizes. Quite a lot of you are wondering about the shutter speed. It is 1/1600 sec. I've found I can usually freeze hummers at about 1/1200 sec. or faster. I bumped the speed up on this day because it was exceptionally bright and sunny! Thanks to all of you who commented on my shot of the white cactus flower. Much of the snow melted today, although it kept on snowing until about 11 a.m. The wedding shoot went well, I think, although I've not yet looked closely at the images. They'll keep me busy processing for several weeks. Hope every has a chance to get outside and enjoy nicer weather today!
Monday, June 6, 2011 "TILE ART" "A day without art is like a garden without flowers." ~ Lori McNee A couple of days in New Orleans, LA......"The Big Easy!" How low did I go? This is a SOOC pic of a beautiful baroque design element on the floor of the hotel's foyer. I decided against taking the pic while standing, and therefore, opted to kneel down in order to achieve an appropriate view.....lodged here during a recent trip to "The Big Easy!" View additional pics of this hotel here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/17067867_Mp3px6#1310628034_NksWHtC Thanks for your appreciation and comments on yesterday's "Cancer........There is Hope" POTD; there have been some remarkable photography work showcased in the Daily Community lately and I have immensely enjoyed the views. Have a marvelous Monday, everyone. NOMM@L Hotel New Orleans, Louisiana ***#17 photo of the day*** (photo taken 5/27/2011)
January 7, 2012 This shot was taken just after sundown somewhere along the Mississippi coast of the Gulf of Mexico. We had stopped to walk on the beautiful white-sand beaches and take some photos. Just as we left, we stopped at a nearby marina to put gas in the car and I couldn't resist taking this photo. Frame added in Picnik. I hope you enjoy this tranquil setting captured in this photo - it's going to be one of my favorites from our recent vacation. Check it out in X3 for all the color, reflections and details. Thanks for your comments!!! Have a fabulous weekend!!! Linda
Yesterday I woke up at sunrise. The sun was barely over the horizon at southeast. As I looked out of my bedroom window I saw this landscape to the northwest with the full moon as a golden coin. I at once grabbed my camera, opened the window even as the temperature was minus 10° centigrade and made some shots. Here is one of them. 10 minutes later the sun was well over the horizon, the sky was lit and the moon hardly to be seen.
Single color . If you look at the horizon line you will see a number of windmills. We have a lot of offshore windmill parks around our country and they produce 40 % of our total power consumption and this percentage is increasing from year to year
The Journey begins... Please accept my apologies if I do not get to your shot right aways. Please let me explain. Taking care of my mom is virtually like taking care of a toddler. She can only take a few steps and she has to have diapers. I giver her meds to her, I get her up and in the wheelchair to take her to the dinning room to eat. She can feed herself so that's good. Basically when she needs something I have to get it. So if I don't comment right away I haven't forgotten you I'm just in the middle of something. Have a GRATEFUL day. and smile... *
9.2.09 - Snow and Rain We woke up to fresh snow again this morning, and although it was cold it was quite a pleasant day. That is, until I decided to go out and get a Daily. I had hoped to take some night snow shots around the Cathedral, but it was raining heavily! The last time I took some photos here I got a ghostly biker zooming through the shot, tonight it was a bedraggled walker. Apart from a crop to get rid of boring foreground this is straight out of camera. Despite me standing over it with an umbrella some rain managed to get on the lens, but I think it adds to the watery scene (well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it).
