Friday, December 31, 2010 "DESERT WILDFLOWER TOWERS" by Dale Chihuly "As I have practiced it, photography produces pleasure by simplicity. I see something special and show it to the camera. A picture is produced. The moment is held until someone sees it. Then it is theirs." ~ Sam Abell First of all, Donna McCommon, this is why I was so excited about your POTD yesterday; I had already chosen this picture to be my final post of the year when I arrived home from Arizona. This is SOOC without flash. I am a huge Dale Chihuly fan; great minds think alike! Secondly, I would like to thank you, fellow SmugMuggers, for your inspiring comments on my 2010 POTDs. I learned so much from many of you, made some new friends along the way, improved my photography skills immensely, and even had a photo (12/21/2010) to land in the #1 spot, two photos (12/17/2010 and 12/29/2010) to land in the #2 spot, and several to land in the top five. Who knew that posting a photo a day would render such rewards for a self-described "advanced amateur?" Moreover, I am so excited about perusing all of your 2011 fabulous photos, posting comments, and giving you a thumbs up. You ladies and gentlemen are meticulously discerning. I wish I could meet each of you on my route during this lifetime. Finally, as the world turns, we only have one life to live. May the guiding light that leads to another world keep us young at heart, unrestless, and out of General Hospital. My prayer for each of you is a safe, blessed, healthy, fun, and happy 2011. In spite of the bumps and bruises, God has been exceptionally kind to all of us. Friday, January 28, 2011 "PRIMARY AND SECONDARY" Abstract "There is no abstract art. You must always start with something. Afterward you can remove all traces of reality." ~ Pablo Picasso This is my 3rd PP creation; it is the transformation of yesterday's POTD. Isn't it amazing how much different it looks? I never imagined yesterday's POTD would land in the #1 spot for the day! You all are such prolific, profound, meticulous, and discerning photographers. Thank you so much to all who commented and voted on my work. It's been a very busy but productive week. Sunday, June 17, 2012 "NECKTIES" "Neckties satisfy modern man's desire to dress in art." ~ Harry Anderson "Fathers are the biggest source of strength for a child. The innocent eyes of a child perceive father as the all-powerful, most knowledge, truly affectionate and the most important person in the family. For daughters, fathers are the first men they adore and fall in love with. While for sons, their fathers are the strongest person they know and someone they aspire to emulate. Even for the grownups, fathers are someone whom they look up to for the most experienced and honest advice that is always in the best of our interest. For this great figure in our life that we know as father - it becomes our utmost duty to pay our humblest tribute on the occasion of Father's Day." ~ Reprinted text from here: http://www.fathersdaycelebration.com/tribute-to-father.html Happy Father's Day to biological and surrogate (one who takes the place of another) fathers, father-figures, Godfathers, and mentors - both natural and spiritual. Speaking of sports..........Miami Heat will host Oklahoma City Thunder in game 3 of the NBA Finals tonight. The series is now 1 - 1. Go "young guns" of OKC! I'm appreciative of your comments on yesterday's "Cherry Blossoms" (remix) photo. Sunday, July 15, 2012 "AZURE SEAFORM PAIR" by Dale Chihuly (2011) $5,600.00 "Among the several kinds of beauty, the eye takes most delight in colors." ~ Joseph Addison Here's the final post in the Dale Chihuly 2012 (Dallas, TX) series; thanks for your comments. Dale Chihuly's official website is www.chihuly.com. During our visit, I overheard someone say that turquoise is Dale Chihuly's favorite color. This work of art was sitting atop a pedestal and enclosed in glass, but that didn't prohibit me from taking a picture. "The Azure Seaform Pair is a two-piece composition that resonates with these reflective qualities of marine forms. A tidal cadence of turquoise along the mouth of the piece illuminates the bands of lapis strata that wrap the body. Set against these temperate tonalities, a radiant yellow lip wrap defines the folding contours of the body, accentuating the form articulated in this piece. This handblown Studio Edition measures approximately ten inches across and arrives with a custom-designed display vitrine and Chihuly Seaforms, a book detailing the inspiration behind this series, with forty-four full-color photographs and an introduction by oceanographer Sylvia Earle. Azure Seaform Pair is a fluid expression of the aquatic translated through the artist’s chosen medium of glass." ~ Reprinted text from DC's PP View the back of this hand blown glass art piece here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/19371744_9MCHQS#!i=1936594779&k=ZvBn3dj&lb=1&s=A Be blessed and share the rest! Sunday, July 28, 2013 "C" is for CHIHLY'S CENTERPIECE CLUSTERS "I tend to do things on a huge scale because it's exciting. I like to push things in new and different ways," Chihuly said. "My philosophy is: when one is good, a dozen is better." ~ Dale Chihuly SOOC, uncropped, flash fired Photo submission for Donna McCommon's "Alphabet Challenge" We recently took a quick break from our vacation in Arizona and drove to Las Vegas, NV. There have been numerous additions and attractions to the Las Vegas Strip (my favorite being City Center) since my first / last visit in 2006. Also, I was torn between posting chimes, chocolate, cake, car, or Chihuly - but, of course, Chihuly won! I've been an admirer of Dale Chihuly's glass art since viewing (at the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library & Museum in Little Rock, AR in 2006) the chandelier that he designed for the Clinton's Millennium Christmas at The White House. A photo of it is here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/11041770_4sVsXc#!i=772526419&k=9zCpKh3&lb=1&s=A Furthermore, it's official name is "Clusters Persians Centerpiece," and it features Persian blown glass elements which are open, disc-like forms with striations (called “body wraps”). I had to quickly "point and shoot" in an effort to avoid people's heads being in the photo; as you can imagine, there were several admirers photographing this work of art. Although the lighting is very limited surrounding Chihuly's glass art, if you get to the area, take the time to peruse the artwork; it is beyond amazing. Additionally, I must admit that although I prefer uploading and posting my photos in the order which they were taken, I delved into my "Vegas Baby, Vegas" 2013 gallery to post this one for Donna McCommon's "Alphabet Challenge" today. You'll be seeing my Las Vegas photos in future posts, but for now, you can view my complete "Vegas Baby, Vegas" 2013 gallery (minus the photos that are "in the can") here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/30144066_H5mkzM#!i=2633507079&k=DfBcTDh Dale Chihuly's official website is here: www.chihuly.com As always, I appreciate you taking the time to peruse and comment on my photos. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 "FOUNTAINS OF BELLAGIO" "The knowledge of man is as the waters, some descending from above, and some springing from beneath; the one informed by the light of nature, the other inspired by divine revelation." ~ Francis Bacon SOOC, uncropped, 35mm lens There's always one......Dycasstudios requested to see the camera settings. You can view them here under "Comments (see Godschild): http://dycasstudios.smugmug.com/DailyGallery-1/2013-Daily/27377083_2KC9tv#!i=2805356469&k=7S5q8Rs In July, we spent a week in Arizona at "my happy place." While there, we decided to digress and drive to Las Vegas. Although I was first and last in Las Vegas in June (2006) with my best friend, it was my hubby's first trip to Vegas. Upon our arrival, we parked in the Bellagio's parking garage and headed straight for the water show that was just about to start. This is one of the first photos that I took. A refreshing addition to entertainment options, the Fountains of Bellagio were destined to romance the senses during the day and night. We viewed this thoughtfully interwoven complimentary Las Vegas show of water, music, and light. Each dynamic performance is unique in its expression and interpretation. It is truly the most amusing, amazing, ambitious, choreographically complex water feature ever conceived against the beautiful backdrop of Las Vegas's sky. I fell in love all over again with the stunning nature of this aquatic accomplishment while listening to a clever concert of opera, classical, and Broadway tunes. Monday, July 2, 2012 "COBALT MARLINS and TRUMPET FLOWER FIORI" by Dale Chihuly (2009) "I'm very interested in transformation and how objects are transformed. Reflected images will become as substantial as real works. It's not about the object; it's about form, color, light and shape." ~ Therman Statom, American Studio Glass artist I absolutely love color; and Dale Chihuly's glass art is full of it! I wish I could click my heels together and be transported to every city in the world where his art is exhibited and take photos. Wishful thinking? Well, here's a SOOC (no flash) shot of the centerpiece of attention measuring 96 x 96 x 96 inches; it is MY FAVORITE in this exhibit of hand blown glass among his current exhibits. Dale Chihluy, the artist, describes it as "a visual feast of exuberant color and daring form - brilliant, indoor garden created with blown glass flowers and daring verticals that reach almost nine feet above their base." Additionally, thank you for your comments on the "Spearmint Seafoam Set with Cinnamon Red Lip Wraps" yesterday. Each day, there are superlative photos posted in this community. Although my time perusing and commenting on photos is very limited this summer, I genuinely appreciate you taking time to peruse and comment on mine. It has never gone unnoticed or taken for granted. Disclaimer: Although I post what I like (emphasis on "I"), I'll try not to bore you; there's more photos of Dale Chihuly's glass art forthcoming:). Thursday, June 7, 2012 "DELICATE BEAUTIES" “Never make someone a priority when all you are to them is an option.” ~ Dr. Maya Angelou This summer, I am only perusing and commenting on photos as my limited time permits. Although it is summer vacation, I am not idle. This is a very busy time for me, as I have embarked upon a new and very challenging endeavor. Don't miss a blooming thing this spring! This is one of my favorite flower captures. An abundance of colors, fragrances, and scenic views await you in these gardens. Also, I read that the meaning of hibiscus is "delicate beauty;" thus, the caption. These orange hibiscuses are amazing tropical flowers that come in many shapes, sizes and varieties. They are known for their beauty and their large, colorful blooms. You can plant hibiscus flowers indoors, outdoors, as a shrub, or as a simple flower. With all of the different options available, who would not want to plant this flower? SPEAKING OF SPORTS: In the words of Reggie Miller, we watched "greatness grow up" last night as the "young guns" of OKC defeated the San Antonio Spurs in OKC and ended the series 4 - 2. OKC has advanced to the NBA Finals........woo hoo!! Tonight, Boston Celtics will host Miami Heat in game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The series is 3 - 2 with Boston leading the way. The family and I are pulling for Boston. If Boston is victorious tonight, they will go on to face OKC in the NBA Finals - date TBD. I truly appreciate your comments on yesterday's "Banana Tree" photo; it was the #2 photo of the day. Congrats to Maryann (aka "fotomom") for the #1 photo. Hang in there; tomorrow is Friday. Thursday, February 2, 2012 "SUNNY SIDE UP" "Be a rose which gives fragrance, even to those who crush it. ~ Author Unknown SOOC comes this yellow rose of...........Arizona, and not Texas:)! According to history, yellow is a bright, sunny color that evokes a feeling of warmth and happiness. Akin to those shared with a true friend are the warm feelings associated with the yellow rose. It is also an ideal symbol for joy and friendship, in contrast to the romantic meanings attributed to other roses. Additionally, yellow roses can send the perfect message of appreciation and platonic love without the romantic subtext of other colors. Joy and delight are representative of the color yellow and an ideal way to brighten someone's day who may be feeling down. Finally, a yellow rose can bring out the smile in quite a way that no other flower can. I sure do thank you all for your comments; they are very much appreciated.
