Friday, January 28, 2011 "PRIMARY AND SECONDARY" Abstract "Artists are just children who refuse to put down their crayons." ~Al Hirschfeld This is my 3rd PP creation; it is the transformation of yesterday's POTD. I never imagined yesterday's POTD would land in the #1 spot for the day! You all are such prolific, profound, meticulous, and discerning photographers. Thank you so much to all who commented and voted on my work. It's been a very busy but productive week. Tuesday, January 25, 2011 "PULLING STRAWS?" "Remember when looking in the mirror, it is always looking back at you; the reflections seen are only ever as kind or as ill as your own projections." ~ Morrigan I didn't have to pull straws for this one................woo hoo!!! This is MY FIRST PP IMAGE (focal b/w, uncropped, however). I stepped outside of my comfort zone. Furthermore, I am such a "visual" person. On Sunday, after creating yesterday's POTD using marbles and the mirror, I decided to see what image I could create with straws and the mirror. Too much time on my hands? Well, all work and no play....... you know what they say. I am overwhelmingly appreciative of your comments regarding yesterday's "Marbelicious" POTD. It landed in the #8 spot. Fellow SmugMuggers, you rock! December 31, 2010 "DESERT WILDFLOWER TOWERS" by Dale Chihuly "As I have practiced it, photography produces pleasure by simplicity. I see something special and show it to the camera. A picture is produced. The moment is held until someone sees it. Then it is theirs." ~ Sam Abell First of all, Donna McCommon, this is why I was so excited about your POTD yesterday; I had already chosen this picture to be my final post of the year when I arrived home from Arizona. This is SOOC without flash. I am a huge Dale Chihuly fan; great minds think alike! Secondly, I would like to thank you, fellow SmugMuggers, for your inspiring comments on my 2010 POTDs. I learned so much from many of you, made some new friends along the way, improved my photography skills immensely, and even had a photo (12/21/2010) to land in the #1 spot, two photos (12/17/2010 and 12/29/2010) to land in the #2 spot, and several to land in the top five. Who knew that posting a photo a day would render such rewards for a self-described "advanced amateur?" Moreover, I am so excited about perusing all of your 2011 fabulous photos, posting comments, and giving you a thumbs up. You ladies and gentlemen are meticulously discerning. I wish I could meet each of you on my route during this lifetime. Finally, as the world turns, we only have one life to live. May the guiding light that leads to another world keep us young at heart, unrestless, and out of General Hospital. My prayer for each of you is a safe, blessed, healthy, fun, and happy 2011. In spite of the bumps and bruises, God has been exceptionally kind to all of us. Sunday, March 13, 2011 "NEWSPAPER WALL ART" "It is the common wonder of all men, how among so many million faces, there should be none alike." ~ Thomas Browne These are the faces of four famous icons; can you guess which ones? No cheating:). The artist/artists name(s) was/were not listed. The "great reveal" will be tomorrow. This is another photo from my four day job-related trip to the Gulf Coast, March 1 - 4, 2011. It's SOOC and uncropped. I love beautiful, unique and interesting art; this one is all three! It was created with newspapers; believe it or not!! It was taken either in between attending workshops or at the end of the day. Sunday, October 27, 2013 "P" is for PRETTY and PINK "The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it." ~ Moliere SOOC, uncropped, 35mm lens - Pink and White Seaform Set with Black Lip Wraps by Dale Chihuly Photo submission for Donna McCommon's "Alphabet Challenge" and Tina Gardner's (aka "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Bras" and "IndigoStudios") "Think Pink" Challenge, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month Millions of people around the world pay tributes to those men and women who are facing cancer, overcame cancer, and those warriors and soldiers who reside in heaven now after fighting various forms of cancer with great strength and dignity. CJMG is a survivor of that darn breast "C" word. As we continue to pray for a cure for cancer and all diseases, our hope in God will sustain us; for "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us." (Ephesians 3:20, KJV of The Bible). Additionally, "Pink is the color of universal love. Pink is a quiet color. Lovers of beauty favor pink. Pink is a combination of red and white. The quality of energy in pink is determined by how much red is present. White is the potential for fullness, while red helps you to achieve that potential. Pink combines these energies. Pink provides feelings of caring, tenderness, self-worth, love, and acceptance." ~ Reprinted text from here: http://crystal-cure.com/pink.html I am a huge fan of Dale Chihuly's glass art and this "Pink Seaform" work of art was my favorite in the exhibit. "The Seaforms seemed to come about by accident, as much of my work does—by chance. We were experimenting with some ribbed molds when I was doing the Basket series. By blowing the pieces into ribbed molds, it gave them more strength. It's sort of like corrugated cardboard—or actually, like sea shells themselves, which are very often ribbed. Then the Baskets started looking like sea forms, so I changed the name of the series to Seaforms, which suited me just fine in that I love to walk along the beach and go to the ocean. And glass itself, of course, is so much like water. If you let it go on its own, it almost ends up looking like something that came from the sea." ~ Dale Chihuly (Reprinted text from here: http://www.chihuly.com/seaforms-artists-statement.aspx) View the entire gallery of Dale Chihuly's glass art at Gallery Row here/ArtScape-1/Dale-Chihulys-Art-at-Gallery "Be kind; for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle " ~ Plato Gallery Row at Crystals Place City Center Las Vegas Blvd. Las Vegas, NV ***#2 photo of the day*** (photo taken July, 2013)
Wednesday, July 18, 2012 "TEXAS-SIZE BELT - 2" "Wear a belt! It's an easy way to pull together your outfit. Just be sure to match it to your shoes." ~ Ashton Kutcher Everything's bigger in Texas, right? It's been a week since I've picked up my camera and taken a photo.......sigh:). Tuesday, July 17, 2012 "AFFECTION" "Horse sense is the thing a horse has which keeps it from betting on people." ~ W.C. Fields Update: After reading Wilma's comment, I changed the caption from "Bonding" to "Affection." Thanks for the inspiration, Wilma! I am told that horses are extrememly affectionate and that when a horse gently brings its head even slightly in your direction, it is affection and acknowledgement.........such was the case here. You all know that I rarerly post "people shots," but I was walking by and spotted this scene and thought, "photo opp and future daily post." I was hoping she wouldn't turn around and/or leave before I was able to get my camera out of its bag and capture the moment. Thanks for your comments and have a terrific Tuesday. Sunday, July 15, 2012 "AZURE SEAFORM PAIR" by Dale Chihuly (2011) $5,600.00 "Among the several kinds of beauty, the eye takes most delight in colors." ~ Joseph Addison Here's the final post in the Dale Chihuly 2012 (Dallas, TX) series; thanks for your comments. Dale Chihuly's official website is www.chihuly.com. During our visit, I overheard someone say that turquoise is Dale Chihuly's favorite color. This work of art was sitting atop a pedestal and enclosed in glass, but that didn't prohibit me from taking a picture. "The Azure Seaform Pair is a two-piece composition that resonates with these reflective qualities of marine forms. A tidal cadence of turquoise along the mouth of the piece illuminates the bands of lapis strata that wrap the body. Set against these temperate tonalities, a radiant yellow lip wrap defines the folding contours of the body, accentuating the form articulated in this piece. This handblown Studio Edition measures approximately ten inches across and arrives with a custom-designed display vitrine and Chihuly Seaforms, a book detailing the inspiration behind this series, with forty-four full-color photographs and an introduction by oceanographer Sylvia Earle. Azure Seaform Pair is a fluid expression of the aquatic translated through the artist’s chosen medium of glass." ~ Reprinted text from DC's PP View the back of this hand blown glass art piece here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/19371744_9MCHQS#!i=1936594779&k=ZvBn3dj&lb=1&s=A Be blessed and share the rest! Friday, July 13, 2012 "FLOAT BOAT and CARNIVAL BOAT" (with Niijima Floats, Reeds, and Marlins) by Dale Chihuly "Colour is life; for a world without colours appears to us as dead." ~ Johannes Itten My FAVORITE in this exhibit and located in the infinity pool with a view of White Rock Lake in the background, an encounter with Dale Chihuly's works is always a spectacular reminder that glass is not just something to see through or drink out of. The glass work transforms the area into a wonderland of colors. This dramatic Chihuly exhibit offers a spectacular display of color and plenty of unique art forms around every corner. "Chihuly first filled boats wit his glass elements in Nuutajarvi, Finland during the Chihuly Over Venice project in June 1995. After several days of glassblowing in the hotshop, the team made temporary installations along the Nuutajoki, the river nearby. Chihuly then filled it with Chandelier parts and other glass forms that were blown during the Finland trip." ~ Reprinted text from DA&BG's brochure Artist's Statement.........."I've never done anything like the Floats. They are probably the most monumental-looking, since there's no reminiscence of a container shape. Just because they are so big, the Floats are technically, or let's say physically, the most difficult things that we have ever done. Even though a sphere or a ball is about the easiest form you can make in glass, when you get to this scale, up to forty inches in diameter, it becomes extremely difficult." ~ Dale Chihuly Dale Chihuly's official website is www.chihuly.com Oh Happy Friday! Thursday, July 12, 2012 "CARNIVAL BOAT" with REEDS, MARLINS, and NIIJIMA FLOATS by Dale Chihuly "The purest and most thoughtful minds are those which love color the most." ~ John Ruskin Color my world - the sheer exuberance of a boat full of party balloons!! Here's a closeup of the boat that was in yesterday's photo. I like fab, but not drab. I LOVE color, and apparently, so does Dale Chihuly. If art is the expression of imagination, then Dale and I both dream in very vivid colors. An encounter with Dale Chihuly's works is always a spectacular reminder that glass is not just something to see through or drink out of. "Chihuly first filled boats wit his glass elements in Nuutajarvi, Finland during the Chihuly Over Venice project in June 1995. Thursday, September 27, 2012 "HEADLIGHT of a 1937 FORD COUPE"" "The gleam of chrome is as irresistible to a man as the word "sale" is to a woman." ~ Raymond Loewy SOOC, uncropped As you can tell, I really enjoyed taking advantage of the photo opps at the recent car show. I have a few more to share with you and then it will be on to posting another subject:). By the way, I am not familiar with many of the make and models of the older vehicles, so I have to rely on my hubby (a classic/vintage "car buff" for identification:). He and our two sons are the REAL classic car lovers. I like photographing them, however. I love how the sun causes this one to appear two-toned. What a beautiful deep, rich color of this classic coupe........and I really like the shape of the headlights, too. By the way, I didn't notice my SP until after I uploaded this photo to the gallery:). Tuesday, February 11, 2014 "SCRAP METAL HORSE" "The essential joy of being with horses is that it brings us in contact with the rare elements of grace, beauty, spirit, and fire." - Sharon Ralls Lemon NOTE: Inclement weather (light wintry mix with current temps at 27 degrees in our city at the time of this post this morning) - received an all-call - no work for me today - woo hoo! Notice it's being pulled by a small reindeer:). I don't have a clue as to the artist or its official name, but it was signed by Carla Carlos in 2009, which I spotted near the horse's mane. I photographed it from both sides. It is under 24 hour surveillance. The weather was perfect and the temps were in the low 70s each day during our Christmas vacation in Arizona last year (2013). As you can tell from this photo, it was a bright and sunny day. Have a terrific Tuesday! Waiting at the Wall: Taken while during a 45 minutes wait at a restaurant in the North End. (Yes - we actually waited) But, the beauty of always having my camera with me is that the wait never seems to be so long and sometimes it may not bee long enough. This is my son patiently waiting outside of the restaurant.... Happy Thursday!!! 07/24/2014
Wednesday, October 2, 2013 "FOUNTAINS OF BELLAGIO" "The knowledge of man is as the waters, some descending from above, and some springing from beneath; the one informed by the light of nature, the other inspired by divine revelation." ~ Francis Bacon SOOC, uncropped, 35mm lens View camera's factory settings here under "Comments" per Dycasstudios's request (see Godschild): http://dycasstudios.smugmug.com/DailyGallery-1/2013-Daily/27377083_2KC9tv#!i=2805356469&k=7S5q8Rs In July, we spent a week in Arizona at "my happy place." While there, we decided to digress and drive to Las Vegas for an overnight stay. Although I was first and last in Las Vegas in June (2006) with my best friend, it was my hubby's first trip to Vegas. Upon our arrival, we parked in the Bellagio's parking garage and headed straight for the water show that was just about to start. This is one of the first photos that I took. A refreshing addition to entertainment options, the Fountains of Bellagio were destined to romance the senses during the day and night. We viewed this thoughtfully interwoven complimentary Las Vegas show of water, music, and light. Each dynamic performance is unique in its expression and interpretation. It is truly the most amusing, amazing, ambitious, choreographically complex water feature ever conceived against the beautiful backdrop of Las Vegas's sky. I fell in love all over again with the stunning nature of this aquatic accomplishment while listening to a clever concert of opera, classical, and Broadway tunes.
