Thursday, June 7, 2012 "DELICATE BEAUTIES" “Never make someone a priority when all you are to them is an option.” ~ Dr. Maya Angelou This summer, I am only perusing and commenting on photos as my limited time permits. Although it is summer vacation, I am not idle. This is a very busy time for me, as I have embarked upon a new and very challenging endeavor. Don't miss a blooming thing this spring! This is one of my favorite flower captures. An abundance of colors, fragrances, and scenic views await you in these gardens. Also, I read that the meaning of hibiscus is "delicate beauty;" thus, the caption. These orange hibiscuses are amazing tropical flowers that come in many shapes, sizes and varieties. They are known for their beauty and their large, colorful blooms. You can plant hibiscus flowers indoors, outdoors, as a shrub, or as a simple flower. With all of the different options available, who would not want to plant this flower? SPEAKING OF SPORTS: In the words of Reggie Miller, we watched "greatness grow up" last night as the "young guns" of OKC defeated the San Antonio Spurs in OKC and ended the series 4 - 2. OKC has advanced to the NBA Finals........woo hoo!! Tonight, Boston Celtics will host Miami Heat in game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The series is 3 - 2 with Boston leading the way. The family and I are pulling for Boston. If Boston is victorious tonight, they will go on to face OKC in the NBA Finals - date TBD. I truly appreciate your comments on yesterday's "Banana Tree" photo; it was the #2 photo of the day. Congrats to Maryann (aka "fotomom") for the #1 photo. Hang in there; tomorrow is Friday. Tuesday, June 19, 2012 "ANTIQUE TRACTOR" (HDR version) “Everybody had a tractor in the '40s. There's not much farming now. In the '40s and '50s you had more farmers than you had people working in the cities.” ~ Don Davis SURPRISE!!!! Although I rarely pp, I felt this "oldie but goodie" was worthy of Picnik's "HDR and Lomoish" effects and frames. Unfortunately, the picnik is over. As announced earlier, Picnik closed on April 19, 2012. Also, I photographed this same antique tractor during the fall of last year. Sunday, June 17, 2012 "NECKTIES" "Neckties satisfy modern man's desire to dress in art." ~ Harry Anderson "Fathers are the biggest source of strength for a child. The innocent eyes of a child perceive father as the all-powerful, most knowledge, truly affectionate and the most important person in the family. For daughters, fathers are the first men they adore and fall in love with. While for sons, their fathers are the strongest person they know and someone they aspire to emulate. Even for the grownups, fathers are someone whom they look up to for the most experienced and honest advice that is always in the best of our interest. For this great figure in our life that we know as father - it becomes our utmost duty to pay our humblest tribute on the occasion of Father's Day." ~ Reprinted text from here: http://www.fathersdaycelebration.com/tribute-to-father.html Happy Father's Day to biological and surrogate (one who takes the place of another) fathers, father-figures, Godfathers, and mentors - both natural and spiritual. Speaking of sports..........Miami Heat will host Oklahoma City Thunder in game 3 of the NBA Finals tonight. The series is now 1 - 1. Go "young guns" of OKC! I'm appreciative of your comments on yesterday's "Cherry Blossoms" (remix) photo. Friday, April 6, 2012 "WHAT IS IT?" “Each of us, famous or infamous, is a role model for somebody, and if we aren't, we should behave as though we are -- cheerful, kind, loving, courteous; because you can be sure someone is watching and taking deliberate and diligent notes.” ~ Maya Angelou Can you guess what this is? Special effects or not? Even I was amazed at how this turned out, as I was just playing around with various shots. It does look like an abstract and a work of art, in my opinion. I genuinely appreciate your comments on the table setting post yesterday; it landed in the #2 spot. Please know that I look forward to perusing and commenting on your outstanding photos, also. Each day, I am so honored to be a part of a community of people who share a like passion for photography. Today is Good Friday and a day off for most people, including moi......woo hoo!! December 31, 2010 "DESERT WILDFLOWER TOWERS" by Dale Chihuly "As I have practiced it, photography produces pleasure by simplicity. I see something special and show it to the camera. A picture is produced. The moment is held until someone sees it. Then it is theirs." ~ Sam Abell First of all, Donna McCommon, this is why I was so excited about your POTD yesterday; I had already chosen this picture to be my final post of the year when I arrived home from Arizona. This is SOOC without flash. I am a huge Dale Chihuly fan; great minds think alike! Secondly, I would like to thank you, fellow SmugMuggers, for your inspiring comments on my 2010 POTDs. I learned so much from many of you, made some new friends along the way, improved my photography skills immensely, and even had a photo (12/21/2010) to land in the #1 spot, two photos (12/17/2010 and 12/29/2010) to land in the #2 spot, and several to land in the top five. Who knew that posting a photo a day would render such rewards for a self-described "advanced amateur?" Moreover, I am so excited about perusing all of your 2011 fabulous photos, posting comments, and giving you a thumbs up. You ladies and gentlemen are meticulously discerning. I wish I could meet each of you on my route during this lifetime. Finally, as the world turns, we only have one life to live. May the guiding light that leads to another world keep us young at heart, unrestless, and out of General Hospital. My prayer for each of you is a safe, blessed, healthy, fun, and happy 2011. In spite of the bumps and bruises, God has been exceptionally kind to all of us. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 "SCRAP METAL HORSE" "The essential joy of being with horses is that it brings us in contact with the rare elements of grace, beauty, spirit, and fire." - Sharon Ralls Lemon NOTE: Inclement weather (light wintry mix with current temps at 27 degrees in our city at the time of this post this morning) - received an all-call - no work for me today - woo hoo! Notice it's being pulled by a small reindeer:). I don't have a clue as to the artist or its official name, but it was signed by Carla Carlos in 2009, which I spotted near the horse's mane. I photographed it from both sides. It is under 24 hour surveillance. The weather was perfect and the temps were in the low 70s each day during our Christmas vacation in Arizona last year (2013). As you can tell from this photo, it was a bright and sunny day. Have a terrific Tuesday! Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs has fantastic views, throw in a thunder storm and things get real interesting. Sharp eyed viewers will spot a climber on one of the formations.
I waited for 6 months for the sun to go down in the midle of the road. Fortunately it did not rain that day. I brought a boy with me to wave good night to the sun. Suddenly I saw the birds comming from the left, and got them in "the decive moment".

Day 132 - The morning sun strikes rock formations in the Grand Canyon, as seen from the North Rim in Arizona; detail in this image is best viewed in a larger size. This shot of the Grand Canyon is one I recently rediscovered in my archives from the early fall and reprocessed. I used a number of different effects, including Topaz Adjust, Color EFEX Pro, and some regular Photoshop filter and blending effects. If you view the large size, you will really see some detail! I'm going to post this and go to bed. I hope you all have a really nice day! It is supposed to be quite warm here today. It got up to 65 degrees in Colorado Springs today, not a good day to sleep away. Oh. well. Oh, if some of you should like to look at the other North Rim Grand Canyon shots, they are here: http://fotoeffects.smugmug.com/gallery/6698528_KNq6d#476011624_efKkk.
9.2.09 - Snow and Rain We woke up to fresh snow again this morning, and although it was cold it was quite a pleasant day. That is, until I decided to go out and get a Daily. I had hoped to take some night snow shots around the Cathedral, but it was raining heavily! The last time I took some photos here I got a ghostly biker zooming through the shot, tonight it was a bedraggled walker. Apart from a crop to get rid of boring foreground this is straight out of camera. Despite me standing over it with an umbrella some rain managed to get on the lens, but I think it adds to the watery scene (well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it).
