A popular 'trick' was lighting the end of a long red string of firecrakers and running down the street dragging the exploding string, as seen here. In case you were wondering what kind of plant this is, will it's a weed plant. I like taking images of this plant due to it's vascular veins on the leaf and all the little hair like thorns around the leaf and stem. This is all natural light from the sun at differant times of the day. This one shot is in the morning around 10:30 am, but the light is behind the plant to get this effect.
Gongoozlers A gongoozler is "a person who idly watches the labours of others while declining to offer assistance or becoming involved. Traditionally a term used by canal bargees when referring to onlookers found clustering around locks and moorings where barges have to stop and the crew engage in sometimes hard physical activity to make progress." (urban dictionary) There are always gongoozlers at the Foxton Locks (two staircases of five locks each). Indeed, my wife and I started out as gongoozlers before taking up the canal trips actively.
