Sunset at Gate 55, Honolulu airport on the way home, 4-19-2014 Have a great weekend
for July 23 post. On the hottest day of the year , I get the idea that a walk along the trail near me will be cooler due to the tree canopy. Well it wasn't ,and the bugs were "not a pretty sight". I used SP night on my camera for this one and was hanging over a log and drenched in sweat. It could be sharper but I like the underside effect.and the effort it took merited a post. Where have all the crickets gone?
04/19/14 - Wind Beneath My Wings My Blog A shot taken at the NC Zoo on Thursday. On our way back home from Carowinds, we also made a one hour stop at the zoo in the hopes of seeing the polar bear, Patches, in the water again like we did a couple of weeks ago. No luck She was awake and pacing but not swimming. This was a luck/mistake shot, and I decided I liked it enough to post. I spend a lot of time trying to get inflight butterfly shots during the summer months, and this one happened all on it's own. Go figure. I also liked this shot of Madi. SmugMug Link And these flower shots too. SmugMug Link SmugMug Link HAGD, Maryann

Day 132 - The morning sun strikes rock formations in the Grand Canyon, as seen from the North Rim in Arizona; detail in this image is best viewed in a larger size. This shot of the Grand Canyon is one I recently rediscovered in my archives from the early fall and reprocessed. I used a number of different effects, including Topaz Adjust, Color EFEX Pro, and some regular Photoshop filter and blending effects. If you view the large size, you will really see some detail! I'm going to post this and go to bed. I hope you all have a really nice day! It is supposed to be quite warm here today. It got up to 65 degrees in Colorado Springs today, not a good day to sleep away. Oh. well. Oh, if some of you should like to look at the other North Rim Grand Canyon shots, they are here: http://fotoeffects.smugmug.com/gallery/6698528_KNq6d#476011624_efKkk.
Thursday, April 17, 2014 "CYPRESS PRESERVE" "The art of progress is to preserve order amid change and to preserve change amid order." ~ Alfred North Whitehead SOOC, uncropped, flash fired, photographed at 6:05 p.m. (Central Time Zone) Thanks for your comments on my "Sassy and Azaleas" photo yesterday; it was a pleasure to share the #3 spot with Suzanne (aka DreamCatcherPhotography) - we each had 23 comments at the end of the day on our photos. Congrats to Harsh (aka Hershey) whose image was a well-deserved #1 and Judy (aka fotoeffects), whose image was #2. "Popular among photographers, birders, and joggers, this site's three ancient groves of cypress don't mind a little extra water. Growing from a long, narrow slough, or wetland depression, these cypress brakes enjoy wet feet. Purchased in 1940, the garden club continues to improve the site with new boardwalks, an outdoor classroom pavilion, walking trails, and informative signs. Here among this 16 acre tract in the city, it's no surprise to see deer, turkeys and alligators in their natural habitat." ~ Reprinted text from here: http://www.scenicusa.net/050712.html Hang in there; tomorrow is Friday! Coming Through19 April 2014 -- 109/365Providence, Rhode IslandWe finally got some nice spring temperatures, so I decided to go downcity for street photography. Walking through Kennedy Plaza, I suddenly heard the sound of rollers approaching fast. I barely had time to raise the camera when these three skateboarders came whipping around the corner of the building to my right. Fortunately, I had the camera set for rapidly changing street photography (i.e. ISO 200, f/8, aperture preferred mode) and caught this scene just as the first boarder came flying by me. This is about as impromptu a photo as you can get. No time to compose, no time to change focus, no time to adjust settings, just raise the camera and press the shutter. It's one of the many things I love about street photography.Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, and boost black. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

30 Nov 2013: A Northern Flicker. I had to shoot this through a window, but it still turned out pretty well.
