Sunday, May 15, 2011 "ANTIQUE CHEVY" (The Metamorphosis) "Keep calm and drive a Chevy!" ~ Author Unknown Linda (aka Lgood) is one of the absolute best at capturing automobile shots and their reflections, and I immediately thought of her when I spotted this GM classic. Unfortunately, there wasn't an information card, so I am unsure as to the year of this "oldie but goodie." My hubby's guess is it's a "1930 something Chevy." The pink sign made spectators chuckle. It warned, "UNLESS YOU ARE NUDE.....PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH MY CHEVY! BUCKLES, BELTS, AND BUTTONS SCRATCH." As you can see, I did some pp with this one, but it is uncropped. The original image can be viewed here: http://godschild.smugmug.com/gallery/16609546_tdrqK#!i=1274849067&k=9MMHm66&lb=1&s=A Your comments on yesterday's "Got Mail" POTD are really appreciated; you all are really a wonderful community of photographers who are also supportive and helpful. God is and has been exceptionally kind to all of us; have a blessed and safe Sunday, everyone. Monday, May 16, 2011 "442 CUTLASS OLDSMOBILE" (The Metamorphosis) "It allows you to say things that sound very dramatic and get away with it. If you had characters in modern fiction say the same things as they're driving down the street in an Oldsmobile, they'd sound ludicrous." ~ Terry Goodkind Slight pp; uncropped Here's another Lgood inspired automobile capture. This cobalt blue baby was one of my hubby's favorites in the show. Unfortunately, there was not an information card, but while we were at the car show, my hubby (who loves antique cars) informed me that this is a "442 Cutlass Olds." He also stated that the chrome on the rear bumper, in all likelihood, has been redone. You can see a glimpse of my black / white animal print jacket and red cape in the bumper. There was a chilly breeze and the temps had dropped to mid 50s. Yes, I did some pp with this one, but it is uncropped. The original can be viewed here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/16609546_tdrqK#1274849706_xFHRmdP Also, I did some research and according to Wikipedia, "The Oldsmobile 442 (pronounced four-four-two) was a muscle car produced by the Oldsmobile division of General Motors. It was introduced as an option package for F-85 and Cutlass models sold in the United States beginning with the 1964 model year. It became a model in its own right from 1968 to 1971, then reverted to an option through the mid-1970s. Oldsmobile revived the name in the 1980s on the rear-wheel drive Cutlass Supreme and early 1990s as an option package for the new front-wheel drive Cutlass." (Reprinted text from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldsmobile_442) Furthermore, I am overwhelmingly and humbly appreciative of your comments on yesterday's "Antique Chevy." It landed in the #2 spot. Congrats to my friend sharkbayte whose "Clouds" pic was #1. May 3, 2011 A little break from the car photos today. This is a shot of some Hackberry Emperor Butterflies on some shrubs outside our house. We are just covered with these little butterflies and they love the blooms on this shrub. Papa, help me out with the name of this shrub. These lovely little butterflies are not the only bugs in our yard, we have "June Bugs" everywhere (not sure that's their real name) but they are like little brown, kamokazi bugs that throw themselves violently into the doors & windows of the house. The June Bugs dive into the doors & windows every night for the last 2 nights. They are everywhere & nasty little buggers. I'd like more of these pretty little butterflies please - no more nasty June bugs. Best viewed in X2. PP is Topaz spicify filter - it's fast becoming one of my favorites. Hope you enjoy these pretty little butterflies! Best Regards, Linda
Saturday, December 20, 2014 "FINAL DAY OF AUTUMN/FALL" 2014 "In the garden, Autumn is, indeed the crowning glory of the year, bringing us the fruition of months of thought and care and toil. And at no season, save perhaps in daffodil time, do we get such superb colour effects as from August to November." ~ Rose G. Kingsley SOOC, uncropped, no flash Christmas countdown...........5 days away! My youngest sister and her family arrived safely from Georgia last night - woo hoo! The first day of winter is tomorrow, so I thought I'd post a final photo depicting the beauty of autumn/fall - my favorite time of year. And yes, the leaves were really that vivid. I always say that Mother Nature is amazing and she sure knows how to put on a show! I am appreciative of your comments yesterday pertaining to my "Down By The Riverfront" photo. There are always phenomenal photos posted in this community from so many talented and meticulously discerning photographers; and as you can tell, I enjoy viewing and commenting on as many of them as time permits. Have a safe weekend! May 6, 2015 Waterfall in Waterton Waterton National Park, Alberta
05.05.15 Saturday we were told there was another park just up the road from the park we were at. We went there Sunday and it has a great playground (Yes, the Boy says we can return) and a big soccer field. There were a lot of people there playing soccer. I have to say, because this is part of the story, that I may have been the only non-hispanic there....... These two girls came over and wanted to pet Champ. Then they wanted to walk her. I said OK. The older girl said, "My name is Stephanie and my sister is Ashley." I said, "My son's name is Logan Julio" (El Jay. LJ.) She gave me an odd look. Then looked at El Jay and said, "But Julio is an Hispanic name." I wanted to say, well, Ashley and Stephanie aren't Hispanic names and you are Hispanic, but I said, "He is part Mexican and part Apache." She looked me up and down and replied, "What are you?" (Scottish and Swedish and Welsh and Spanish and Swiss and....a melting pot.) "I'm American." A few minutes later, she went over to EL Jay and said, "Hi, I'm Stephanie." He said, "Hola, I am Logan Julio Reyes." She said, "¿Cómo estás?" He answered, "Bien."
05.02.15 Water color El Jay is feeling better. I need to get out and take new pictures soon.

11/23/10 - Tree in the Fog I have been watching and studying this tree for a couple of years now. Whenever there is fog, it seems to stand out from the backdrop...a solitary, lonely figure. I finally made up my mind yesterday to figure out where to park the car to get out to take a picture...not a small feat. I do try to stay safe, but this location is more precarious than some. Most days I am joyful as I spend time with the kids. My life is full of laughter and color; it's vibrant and full of life like many of my pictures. But some days at least deep inside it is like this too. I guess a bit of that side is slipping through today. I stopped to think about my mother for a few minutes when I took this. She was involved in a horrible traffic accident with a tractor trailer on a foggy morning in November just before Thanksgiving in 1985. For me, the fog will always be more than just the fog. Back to bright and cheery tomorrow I promise... Thanks for your comments on Johnny and the Jon boat. It was as serene out there as you thought. Little wind, warm sun on our skin, very few boats out on the lake...a calming hour without the chaos of life. HAGD, Maryann
