A golden day
20100224-4872 ~~Fogged and dreary rising; the weather's disagreeable too. Awake too late, eyes open, scrutinizing sleep. Fatigued, not tired. Why? I haven't a clue. Seldom works, that senseless habit, enumerating sheep. Adding insult to injury, I believe I dreamt, a ewe? What a bizarre way to begin one's day; much less, stretched across two. Weather guys preach prediction; Nay, they ALERT, ADVISE, and WARN, more wintry white stuff approaches. Alas, my view only precipitates scorn. Cold rain, go away! To you, I've no more to say. ~~ As you can see, the white stuff did make an appearance, a brief, gray, and wet one; so I added my own touch of surreality, by boosting the color to the max. Would have needed a bigger box of Crayolas to get any more out of this one, the file was just too lax. Thanks for the words on the box turtle carapace. I have another one waiting in the wings; still life insurance for a different rainy day. Donna asked, "So, just what DO turtles pine for?" I don't know, but I'm willing to wager it's not lying on their backs counting sheep, stars, or snowflakes. :D Finally, as a few have undoubtedly noticed by now, I made a commitment to myself at the beginning of the year to expand my vocabulary and advance my creative(?) writing skills. Both had taken a turn for the worse quite some time ago, along with proper punctuation, grammar and, most critical, thought. Oddly enough, this world of brevity we now live in, with Facebook, Twitter, SmugMug, and so on, is where I happen to spend most of my writing time. It sort of goes against everything these sites were designed for; so excuse the long-winded captions, comments and silly prose. It's just my way of expanding what I knows. Of course I take none of this too seriously, just like my photos, and anything I put out is open to comment, criticism, or cajolery.
11/05/09 - Historic Yates Mill Pond at Sunset I posted a picture of the actual water wheel in my gallery earlier this year. In this picture, you can't see the wheel, but you get this lovely reflection instead. After Joey's flu shot, I decided to make the best of a wonderful afternoon and go for a quick hike around the mill pond. Unfortunately, we were really there a good 30-60 minutes too late to be taking good pictures. I had to bump up the saturation on this one to improve the color. This is the same shot taken on 10/26 last year when the sun was better and the tree closest to the mill still had yellow leaves on it. http://fotomom.smugmug.com/Yates-Mill-Pond/Yates-Mill-Photo-Contest-2009/7088136_34LZC#454338880_TdGL2 In both cases, the sky looks better in the reflection than in the final shot. I'm not sure how to get around that...especially in last night's picture when the sky really didn't have much blue in it. We still have not had a frost or freeze at my house, but it look like it's coming Friday night into Saturday. I am storing ceramic bird baths and pots and taking in fragile plants that I can save. I sure wish today was Friday... HAGD, Maryann
1-16: Thursday morning we woke up to thick fog again. It lasted till about noon. I was able to go out on my lunch break and take some shots along the river right after the fog lifted. The fog had frozen to the tree branches and bushes. I was able to get some shots before it all melted.
Delicate Swan - Sep 23 2010 She (he?) was all alone... Did some (LOL) PP on this shot to make a kinda delicate picture.
September 23, 2007 Fog in the forest.
"The Road to Color" 10/16/08 While Driving today I got stuck behind a SLOW POKE on the only single lane road leading out of town and was getting frustrated so I jumped off onto this small fire road and was shocked by the colors in this tunnel like ride. it was raining pretty good all day today so there was no sun and nasty puddles everywhere but I was able to snap this by opening my sun roof and sticking the D300 out on constant focus and shot it while doing about 10 mph. I was amazed by the composition I was able to get since I was in the center of the road and being above the car it gave me some extra height then the usual eye view, I think it worked out pretty well LOL. In post I did a minor contrast adjustment and small crop off the bottom, that's it! I'm enjoying the colors here now but I see them disappearing very rapidly so I'm going to try and get some shots everyday now until their gone. It's supposed to get very cold here starting tonight in the 50's as a high during the day and low 40's to high 30's at night Brrrrrrrrrr. I got some other shots from today to process yet but I will be putting them in my Fall Colors 2008 gallery when there finished. Hope you all enjoy your day, Bill Pador
