6/18/13 - Pike's Place Market street scene; I loved this guy's curls!

Thanks for your warm response to my latest shot from the Chihuly exhibit! I've got lots more images processed but am not having much luck uploading them. I'll keep trying.
Poppy Dreaming - this was taken yesterday at Birch Bay State Park, Washington along the northern part of Puget Sound. There was an area that had opium poppies along the edge of the grassland near the beach. I processed this using Topaz Simplify, Color Effex Pro, and added a texture.

Wow! Thanks so much for the warm welcome and the kind comments yesterday. It's good to be back and I'm hoping to stay for awhile.

As I mentioned yesterday, a friend of mine and I did a photo safari of the bluebonnets (Texas' state flower, and much beloved flower) a couple of months ago. I've been able to process some, but not all. Here's one if my favorites. It seemed that the Longhorn and the donkey posed for me in their field of bluebonnets.

This year's crop wasn't as abundant as in years past, but there were enough to give us lots of photo ops.

Thanks again for the welcome back, and have a terrific Tuesday!

Don't you just love the color combination Mother Nature chose for the blooms of this cactus with that electric green 'lightbulb'? For the naturally curious, each bloom is dainty, just a couple of inches, top to bottom.

Ochre sea star (Pisaster ochraceus), near McInnes Island, BC. (This is a 'wild' sea star photographed near McInnes Island, which is a manned lighthouse near the Inside Passage up the coast of British Columbia. A photo of the lighthouse can be seen here: http://goo.gl/op4XM).

Piaster is a keystone species, and is considered an important indicator for the health of the intertidal zone. They feed on mussels and other sea shells. Keystone species play a critical role in maintaining the structure of an ecological community, affecting many other organisms in an ecosystem and helping to determine the types and numbers of various other species in the community. If the sea star is removed from the ecosystem, the mussel population explodes uncontrollably, driving out most other species. Fortunately, we saw lots of these in the coastal water of Northern BC.

For other intertidal photos (leather star, dead man's fingers, rockweed, giant kelp with kelp crab, sea lettuce) see here: http://goo.gl/op4XM
