Sunset at Big Makena Beach on Maui. Added a gradient with saturation to get a deeper blue in the sky. I really appreciate the comments!
The variegated shading on the petals of this orchid (Phalaenopsis Coral Mask) create the illusion that the petals are shiny and wet. March 3, 2015 Thank you all for your comments on my potd yesterday of the moon & venus. I very much appreciate you guys! As some of you know, we just recently remodeled our house. We scraped all the popcorn texture off the ceilings (what a mess), put new texture on the ceilings (another mess), we painted every room in the house (14 different colors - all in similar color families), ripped up & threw away the old carpet & put all new hardwood floors in every room except the Kitchen, Living & Dining room as those floors are tile. Ripping the tile up, was not a job I wanted to tackle. Living in the house while all this was all going on was tough to say the least, but the outcome is great. I'm still unpacking and putting everything back in the house. It's going to take me several more weeks to finish putting the house back together again. During all of this, I cleaned out all the closets and have boxes and boxes of things and clothes to go to the Salvation Army and on eBay. My next job is to tackle the garage. Ugh - I'm thinking a break for a couple of weeks is in the my future. Anyway, early one morning just after the back bedroom was painted, I walked into the kitchen and I could see all the way to the back bedroom. I loved the shadow play on the walls from the early morning sun peeping through the plantation shutters and the sun's light on the yellow wall color of what is the Grandchildren's bedroom. I loved what the soft sun was doing with the shutters, and the new wall color, and I also liked that there was a hint of the Carolina Jasmine leafs on the trellis just outside making shadows at the edge of the window. This photo is by far not my best , but it was a scene that I saw in the early morning hours after the remodel. It really caught my eye, and it made me smile. Thank you for you comments and critiques! "When walking through the 'valley of shadows,' remember, a shadow is cast by a Light." ~ Austin O'Malley Have a "sun-shiney" day today my friends! Playing with an app called Frax.... It's just so much fun! Watching the shapes, colours, lights & textures constantly changing .... and then finally gaining a little control over the fractals as they create themselves.... it's the best antidote for cabin fever I've ever found! Many thanks to Websterway for telling me about this app & appologies to Morgan Fractals.... mine are scratches in the snow compared to your masterpieces, mine is just fun...your creations are absolute art, but thanks to you, I have fallen in love with fractals..... :) I am quite anxious to see what you think .... 03.03.15

March 3, 2015 Dutch Haven, a Lancaster Landmark Since 1946, Dutch Haven has been famous for America's best ShooFly Pie and today it's still produced from the original recipe. Stop in and enjoy a free sample, or click on the link to ship a pie to a friend! http://www.dutchhaven.com What is ShooFly Pie you ask?? Shoofly pie is a molasses pie considered traditional among the Pennsylvania Dutch. The pie may get its name because the sweet molasses odor attracts flies that must be "shooed" away. The shoofly pie's origins may come from the treacle tart with the primary difference being the use of molasses rather than golden syrup. Shoofly pie also comes in two different versions – wet bottom and dry bottom. The dry bottom version is baked until fully set and results in a more cake-like consistency throughout. The wet bottom version is set like cake at the top where it has mixed in with the crumbs, but the very bottom is a stickier, gooier custard-like consistency. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoofly_pie
A B&W moment, by Mother Nature Mar 3 Nothing like a fresh snowfall to transform the ordinary into something photogenic!
3/3/15 - Melting snow creates icy lace when it refreezes at night. This was hanging off the low branches of a mugho pine. Look at the in the largest size to see the delicate detail. It was about four or five inches in length. Thanks for your comments on my shot of the tomatoes in the snow. I appreciate them.

Tuesday, March 3, 2015 "FROZEN HONEYSUCKLES" “I miss the snow. I miss looking at it, walking in it, tasting it. I used to love those days when it was so cold everyone else would be tucked away inside trying to stay warm. I would be the only one out walking, so I could look across the fields and see miles of snow without a single footprint in it. It would be completely silent -- no cars, no birds singing, no doors slamming. Just silence and snow. God, I miss snow. The stars, the moon, the wind, and blankets of pure, pristine snow.” ~ Damien Echols This is the final photo I'm sharing in the DPC from my "Snow What Fun Series" 2015 - this time, red honeysuckles on a vine in our backyard. As previously stated, whenever we get snow, it's a big deal - considering the fact that during most winter months, we don't get snow. Nevertheless, it has totally dissipated now and there are not even tiny remnants of it left from the four to five inches that we got last Wednesday.
