January 27 - Black and White Reflections This picture is of the same lake as of the 25th but processing a different scene as black and white. I like the different shades.
January 28... After a frosty night Blif and I had one of our daily walks. Although he had experienced snow and frost for the first time last year he had apparently forgotten all about it. As you can see he is unable to understand why he can't pick up interesting stuff even when he can see it.

September 2, 2013 The Monitor and Merrimac buttes at the entry into Canyonlands National Park near Moab, Utah. The Monitor and Merrimac buttes were named after the Civil War ironclad ships of the same names. The shapes of the buttes when compared to the likeness of the old ships is striking. The Merrimac is on the left, and the Monitor on the right. These amazing butts tower 600 feet above their Navajo sandstone base. The buttes themselves are composed of Entrada sandstone, and can be seen for miles. This is a 7 shot HDR, my second - tomorrow, you'll see my first successful HDR. I think I'm kind of getting the hang of it, but I had several tries to get it to look right for me. In this one, I thought the lens vignette was kind of cool, so I left it alone. Hope you like! Thanks for your comments on my "H" shot yesterday. I really enjoyed seeing everyone's takes on H, and they were all so very creative. What fun! And thanks to Donna McCommon for creating this fun challenge. Have a "butte" of a day, and enjoy the holiday. Linda

Jan.26. Red-bellied Woodpecker showing its tongue. The tongue is so long it forks in the throat, goes below the base of the jaw, and wraps behind and over the top of the head, where the forks rejoin and insert in the bird's right nostril or around the eye socket.

September 3, 2013 As mentioned yesterday, after a number of "failed" attempts to get an HDR shot that I liked, this was the first I was pleased with, and yesterday's was my 2nd. More to come, I took lots and lots of photos while on vacation. This is the famous Mesa Arch at sunrise. The two mornings we were there were quite cloudy and the sun didn't light the underside of the arch the brilliant red that you've seen in lots of other photos, but I made the best of the shots as I could. This is a 7 photo composite. I rather liked the way it turned out. I posted it Saturday on my FB page, so some of you may have seen it already. I took tons of photos that morning, some are singles and quite good in my opinion. If I can ever get the new Smug page set up like I want, I'll be adding some of the singles to my galleries. I'm on the road again this week and will be in Houston until Thursday, but I'll do the best I can t comment. You guys are really posting some amazing photos. Have a wonderful day! Linda
