She is teething and was feverish but did manage show some reaction to the balloons! The weather forecast is for warmer temperatures this week so we will do some first year portraits outside.

Trillium recurvatum, aka Prairie Trillium or Bloody Butcher. This wildflower is growing at the northern edge of its range. Though not endangered overall, it is threatened in some areas. In Michigan, it is protected by law. This is the only patch of it I have ever seen. Some years rabbits and deer eat all the buds before they ever bloom. This year is a happy exception. DP122-2015 Posted Saturday, May 2. Typically this trillium blooms before the much more common Trillium grandiflorum. I am beginning to see foliage and a few buds of the latter. Taken May 1, 2015. Nichols Arboretum, near Dow Prairie. Ann Arbor, Michigan Title: Rare for this area - Prairie Trillium Thanks for the warm response to yesterday's shot of woodland daffodils.
