This mini-planet has a surprising three-dimensional quality. I had originally planned to post the 6-panel geometric composite which forms the basis for this polar coordinates transformation. But at the last minute I decided to see what that transformation looked like, and liked it so much I decided to post it instead. You can see both the single panel, and the 6-panel geometric design here http://smu.gs/1ASNfa4 and here http://smu.gs/1ASNx0F DP261-2014 Posted September 18; created September 17/18 from a photo taken September 16. The original photo is a small section of the west facade of the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. Title: Abstract - Geometric Mini-Planet from Architectural Detail IN8037 (Twelfth in the current series of abstracts) You can read a summary of the steps that produced the 6-panel geometric image in the caption for that upload. I created the mini-planet in the usual fashion.
September 18, 2014 Another photo from our trek into the Narrows of Zion National Park. We rented water shoes, thermal socks and walking sticks the day before the 8 mile trek. Thank goodness that we did. I told Bill that being a shoe girl, I was having a hard time wearing these ugly shoes. His reply, "Well you can't walk the Narrows in high heels." So right he was. LOL - what an awesome experience, we will do this again sometime. Have a beautiful day today my friends! Linda http://lgood.smugmug.com
9/17/2014 ~ Turquoise and Brick Found in a tiny central Texas town. It looks as though they put stucco over the brick, but time has caused the stucco to fall off in spots. Thank you for the kind comments on yesterday's shot of the alien spider crab! (Thanks Terry! That's definitely what it is)
9/18/14 - House on Nevada Avenue, Colorado Springs; Colorado Springs has an abundance of wonderful old houses. Thanks for your comments on my shot of the old T-bird.
Shot with all natural light, no retouching.
Fun on the carousel. I've never seen a portable carousel this old. Hindsight tells me I should have gotten images of the larger ride but I was more interested in the people.
Vienna's Water By the ;middle of the 19th century Vienna had many epidemics of typhoid and cholera from polluted water. A 95 km long pipeline was built to fetch fresh mountain water from the Rax and Schneeberg mountains south of Vienna. The system, which runs by gravity, was finished in 1873, and now carries some 220,000 cubic meters of water daily - about half of Vienna's water. The pipeline is carried in aqueducts over valleys and in tunnels through the hills. There are three aqueducts inside Vienna itself. This one is in the 23rd district. They were totally renovated 2007-2011.
17.09.14 - Shadows and Ghosts Another shot from my Tuesday evening guided photo walk, and a regular subject, although I usually use a slightly different window for the reflecton and use a landscape orientation to get a wider view. I use this location to encourage people to look harder to find interesting perspectives. It is also useful to illustrate how slightly slow shutter speeds turn moving people into ghostly shadows.
