Painted Reflections Jul 28 After a short rain shower, everything is beautifully saturated with color. The calm still of the lake reflected all of the beauty.
Sunday, May 15, 2011 "ANTIQUE CHEVY" (The Metamorphosis) "Keep calm and drive a Chevy!" ~ Author Unknown Linda (aka Lgood) is one of the absolute best at capturing automobile shots and their reflections, and I immediately thought of her when I spotted this GM classic. Unfortunately, there wasn't an information card, so I am unsure as to the year of this "oldie but goodie." My hubby's guess is it's a "1930 something Chevy." The pink sign made spectators chuckle. It warned, "UNLESS YOU ARE NUDE.....PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH MY CHEVY! BUCKLES, BELTS, AND BUTTONS SCRATCH." As you can see, I did some pp with this one, but it is uncropped. The original image can be viewed here: http://godschild.smugmug.com/gallery/16609546_tdrqK#!i=1274849067&k=9MMHm66&lb=1&s=A Your comments on yesterday's "Got Mail" POTD are really appreciated; you all are really a wonderful community of photographers who are also supportive and helpful. God is and has been exceptionally kind to all of us; have a blessed and safe Sunday, everyone. Friday, October 25, 2013 "ARIA - 2" “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why." ~ Mark Twain Photographed at 10:02 a.m, SOOC, uncropped, 18-55mm lens As my hubby and I were walking around City Center, I looked up and saw this beautiful view. The perspective is from our viewpoint, but it's a quick "point and shoot" photo that I snapped while walking. Also, I love the Las Vegas City Center - such amazing architecture and art! Lots of windows to clean......:). Tomorrow's post is right around the corner (to the right) against that brick wall. ARIA is a luxury resort and casino in the CityCenter complex on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. Aria consists of two curved glass and steel highrise towers adjoined at the center. It opened on December 16, 2009 as a joint venture between MGM Resorts International and Infinity World Development. At 4,000,000 sq ft (370,000 m2) and 600 ft (180 m) in height, it is the largest and tallest structure at City Center. The resort's 61 and 51-story towers contain a AAA five diamond hotel with 4,004 guest rooms and suites, 16 restaurants, 10 bars and nightclubs, and a casino with 150,000 sq ft (14,000 m2) of gaming space. It also has a 215,000 sq ft (20,000 m2) pool area with 50 cabanas, an 80,000 sq ft (7,400 m2) salon and spa, a 300,000 sq ft (28,000 m2) convention center and a 1,800-seat theater which currently hosts Zarkana by Cirque du Soleil. Among the most notable aspects of Aria is its incorporation of technology in the exterior and interior design of the hotel, specifically for the reduction of energy consumption. It is the largest hotel in the world to have earned LEED Gold certification. On account of its smart rooms which automatically adjust curtains, turn off unused lights and electronics, and regulate the temperature when a guest enters or leaves a room, Aria was described in Popular Mechanics as possibly "the most technologically advanced hotel ever built". Friday, January 28, 2011 "PRIMARY AND SECONDARY" (The Metamorphosis) "There is no abstract art. You must always start with something. Afterward you can remove all traces of reality." ~ Pablo Picasso This is my 3rd PP creation; it is the transformation of yesterday's POTD. Isn't it amazing how much different it looks? View the original version, taken on 1/22/2011, here: http://godschild.smugmug.com/Project-365/Daily-Dose-of-One-A-Day-2011/15049328_xybZM#1164871456_5bxCk Fellow SmugMuggers, you continue to amaze me. I never imagined yesterday's POTD would land in the #1 spot for the day! You all are such prolific, profound, meticulous, and discerning photographers. Thank you so much to all who commented and voted on my work. It's been a very busy but productive week. 07.28.15 Springville Splash Pad. Art City, Springville's nickname, has lifelike bronze sculptures scattered throughout the small city. Instead of a brightly colored splash pad resembling a playground theirs is more elegant and has several sculptures. After working for six days in a row, I have earned two days off. YAY! I will hopefully have time to comment. The Boy and I are going to set up a lemonade stand today to, hopefully, earn enough money to go swimming tomorrow.
Monday, May 16, 2011 "442 CUTLASS OLDSMOBILE" (The Metamorphosis) "It allows you to say things that sound very dramatic and get away with it. If you had characters in modern fiction say the same things as they're driving down the street in an Oldsmobile, they'd sound ludicrous." ~ Terry Goodkind Slight pp; uncropped Here's another Lgood inspired automobile capture. This cobalt blue baby was one of my hubby's favorites in the show. Unfortunately, there was not an information card, but while we were at the car show, my hubby (who loves antique cars) informed me that this is a "442 Cutlass Olds." He also stated that the chrome on the rear bumper, in all likelihood, has been redone. You can see a glimpse of my black / white animal print jacket and red cape in the bumper. There was a chilly breeze and the temps had dropped to mid 50s. Yes, I did some pp with this one, but it is uncropped. The original can be viewed here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/16609546_tdrqK#1274849706_xFHRmdP Also, I did some research and according to Wikipedia, "The Oldsmobile 442 (pronounced four-four-two) was a muscle car produced by the Oldsmobile division of General Motors. It was introduced as an option package for F-85 and Cutlass models sold in the United States beginning with the 1964 model year. It became a model in its own right from 1968 to 1971, then reverted to an option through the mid-1970s. Oldsmobile revived the name in the 1980s on the rear-wheel drive Cutlass Supreme and early 1990s as an option package for the new front-wheel drive Cutlass." (Reprinted text from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldsmobile_442) Furthermore, I am overwhelmingly and humbly appreciative of your comments on yesterday's "Antique Chevy." It landed in the #2 spot. Congrats to my friend sharkbayte whose "Clouds" pic was #1. View it here: http://sharkbayte.smugmug.com/Photography/2011-Daily-Photos/15280496_zofpQ#1291649048_zdNjmgz Enjoy today; a "blue" Monday may not be so bad after all (smile). ***#1 photo of the day and all time*** Show Your Ride Car Show Memphis, TN My Homepage: http://www.Godschild.smugmug.com
Bolsa Chica Wetlands... Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve is a nature reserve in the city of Huntington Beach, California. It is designated by the California Department of Fish and Game to protect a coastal wetland, with its resident threatened and endangered species. "Bolsa Chica" means "little bag" in Spanish, as the area was part of a historic Mexican land grant named Rancho La Bolsa Chica.[1] The Reserve is also called many other names, including Bolsa Chica Lowlands, Bolsa Chica Wetlands, and Bolsa Chica Wildlife Refuge. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolsa_Chica_Ecological_Reserve Bolsa Chica Wetlands Huntington Beach, CA Thank you for your views, comments and critiques, much appreciated! Monday, March 30, 2015 "AMERICAN QUEEN STEAMCOACH" (The Metamorphosis) "The traveler sees what he sees, the tourist sees what he has come to see." ~ Gilbert K. Chesterton Yep, the popular riverboat now has three personalized steamcoaches decorated to look like their namesake. And they sure are getting second looks whenever they pass by. The colorful motorcoaches are painted to closely resemble the exterior of the American Queen, complete with the big red paddlewheel and “passengers” waving from the decks." ~ Reprinted text from here: http://www.examiner.com/article/steamcoaches-add-to-american-queen-shore-stop-excursions After church, we traveled to see the American Queen Steamboat that was moored at Lake Ferguson in Greenville, MS, a city approximately two hours from Jackson, MS, the state's capitol. If you recall, we made an attempt to see The Queen of the Mississippi last year (8/20/2014), only to arrive and discover that she had departed the night before. En route to see the American Queen, I spyed this tour bus at one of the local venues. Of course, I couldn't resist pulling over and taking a photo.....or two, but I favored this one. It was one of the very rare occasions that I thought I had packed my camera, but hadn't. I am not fond of taking photos with cell phones. Slightly cropped and PM's HDR effect applied. View the original photo here: http://godschild.smugmug.com/Miscellaneous/Here-There/i-HBtB53V/A I am very appreciative that you take the time to peruse, comment on, and/or give my photos a "thumbs up." 11/23/10 - Tree in the Fog I have been watching and studying this tree for a couple of years now. Whenever there is fog, it seems to stand out from the backdrop...a solitary, lonely figure. I finally made up my mind yesterday to figure out where to park the car to get out to take a picture...not a small feat. I do try to stay safe, but this location is more precarious than some. Most days I am joyful as I spend time with the kids. My life is full of laughter and color; it's vibrant and full of life like many of my pictures. But some days at least deep inside it is like this too. I guess a bit of that side is slipping through today. I stopped to think about my mother for a few minutes when I took this. She was involved in a horrible traffic accident with a tractor trailer on a foggy morning in November just before Thanksgiving in 1985. For me, the fog will always be more than just the fog. Back to bright and cheery tomorrow I promise... Thanks for your comments on Johnny and the Jon boat. It was as serene out there as you thought. Little wind, warm sun on our skin, very few boats out on the lake...a calming hour without the chaos of life. HAGD, Maryann
Gorgeous sunrise yesterday!!! The water was so still and the sky had such unique color. I shot all around the harbor for over 2 hours! Unlike today, where I overslept and missed the whole thing! Plymouth Harbor, Ma
July 28 - Kawishiwi Falls, Ely Minnesota A view from the top of the falls where you can see the water flowing into the river and eventually into Fall Lake. The image was taken in the evening light. Thanks so much for your comments on my Sunset Up North image I posted yesterday!
