Blurry Night, College Station TX

Sarah Williams and I shot a beautiful College Station wedding last weekend at the Messina Hof Vineyard. The reception had a very cool wall of lights that we played around with throughout the night. This is one of the more artistic photos I created. The bride and groom were really into silhouettes so I hope they will enjoy this one. I hope it helps them to remember the little moments they had alone on what must have seemed like a blur of a day.

I love how wedding photography pushes me to focus on mood and emotion rather than technical discipline. There is so much more to telling a story than exposure and focus.

Today is a big day for me because I’m unveiling my new logo, seen here as my watermark. I bought a font and tweaked it in Photoshop. I plan to use it in the banner of my new photography website that will hopefully launch soon. What do you think?

Critiques are always welcome.

Outrigger canoe sailing off Dobu Island, D'Entrecasteaux Islands, PNG

The Melanesians have been building and sailing outrigger canoes long distances for thousands of years and this photos shows a good example of one of their double ended sailing outrigger canoes. It has a boomed lateen rig and this, combined with the double end, means it can be sailed in either direction. It is steered by using the paddle as a rudder (see the technique at large sizes). The sail is made of some kind of polypropylene.

Another view of the canoe and other Dobu Island photos can be seen here: http://goo.gl/VXOdw

23.05.13 - Falling Skies

Yesterday was very stormy, giving great photo opportunities. Amazingly I managed to walk into town and back, a total of 8 miles, without getting wet, but I was very lucky!

Thankyou for the wonderful comments on my baby swan collage yesterday, I'll keep and eye on them and other swan families for you :)

Here is another shot from nearby;

Mammillaria - I had to go to the cactus nursery for some soil and I stepped into the Mam house for a few quick snaps. There were a pair of Quail in there that couldn't figure out how to get out because of me intruding, so I didn't stay long. Go back is on the "to do" list.

Thank you very much for commenting on my shot yesterday, I learn quite a bit from your comments!
May 24th 2013 - 'The simplicity of life' My life is rather complicated at the moment.. I like this photo as in a way it conveys my desire to make things simple again
