2/28/15 - Great horned owl in a park in Colorado Springs; this is one of the owls that contributed all the owl pellets that I took apart. Yesterday's shot was taken at the Raptor Free Fly at the AZ-Sonoran Desert Museum, so, yes, I was considerably closer, although I did not have a 400mm lens. This owl was way up in an evergreen tree and sitting right next to the trunk...very hard to pick out from the ground. Luckily, I had my 400mm lens with me. Otherwise, I would not have gotten much. His, or her, mate was sitting just a couple of branches above this one. Thanks for your comments on my closeup of the great horned owl. Looks like smugmug is starting to get its act ack together. Thank goodness!
02-28-2015 "Evening Light" Nothing better than the setting sun over water. SM has had some problems this week and I don't know if that is the reason photos I have uploaded through the app in my iPad have not shown up. I guess I'll have to wait until I get home and upload them from the computer. Thank you for your comments on my photos. Donna

Here is another sampler of filter effects applied to the same starting image. In this case I started with an image of a hallway in the Michigan League, with a domed ceiling and lights reflecting in a polished stone floor. All the filters are various so-called distortion filters, each of which comes with a variety of presets, and within each preset there is the ability to generate a large number of randomly chosen variations on the settings of the sliders that control the appearance of the distortion. Great fun. DP059-2015 Posted Saturday, February 28; created ditto If you couldn't tell, the starting image is in the center. I have uploaded full-sized version of it and the eight distortions here: http://arctangent.smugmug.com/Photography/Creative-Alterations/Proj-3-Distortion-Filter-Comp/47750892_4hCc87 Starting image taken October 25, 2014 Title: Filter Sampler - Variations on a Lighted Hallway
Pacific Golden Plover - taken on Maui. I really appreciate the comments!
2/27/15 - Great horned owl; this was taken quite a while ago but I just discovered that I had not processed all the images in the file. This is one just processed. Thanks for your comments on my shot of the coyote. I hope the situation with the dailies will be better tomorrow.

October 10, 2012 "To be selected was an honor, and in respect of the family member chosen to run, families held feasts and gave away prized beaver coats, quilled tobacco bags and buffalo hides." ~ Dennis Banks We saw several fairly large buffalo herds while in Yellowstone National Park. And each time we and everyone else stopped to watch them, take photos and enjoy them. Notice the baby running across the field. Headed back home to Dallas today. Bill has rotator cuff surgery in the morning, wish him luck for a speedy recovery. Will catch up on comments (hopefully) in the next few days. Have a fantastic day today my friends! Linda
Bunny - suddenly realized he wasn't alone. Taken in 2012 near Olympia, Wa.
October 22, 2012 "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." ~ Heraclitus You've seen many shots from our vacation into Yellowstone and beyond of the Snake River. This is a wonderful scenic overlook of the beautiful Snake in Iowa. We loved seeing the many faces of this River on our trip, and except for the fly fishing trip, and maybe the white water rafting trips we took on the Snake, this is probably my next favorite view of this lovely river. Life and work is crazy busy for me, and as I'm sure many of the regular posters on the Daily Community have noticed - I've been very, very remiss on my comments. For that I am sad, but there's just not been enough hours in the days to do so. Even this weekend, was jammed full, with no time to comment. My sincere apologies. I have a lot of work ahead, and several weeks of travel coming up over the next 6 weeks. Because of that - I'm going to have to take a break from posting and commenting on the Daily's as often as normal. I will miss seeing all your wonderful shots, and I will miss sharing mine too - but life is just too full (and good) right now, so I have to be gone for awhile. Take care my friends, know that I care about you & love your work. I'll be back sometime soon. Have a "rolling on the river" sort of day today my friends! Linda
Quiet Whisper Feb 25 Ever notice how quiet it is when its snowing! I love to watch the snow fall and listen to the quiet whisper of the snowflakes.
02MAR2015 Council Bluffs Iowa A dreary but productive day, shot this mid Feb. in the blowing snow and cold. Thanks for looking at the work today….have a great day!
