6/7/15 - Bearded German iris Thanks for your comments on my shot of the wren with the ladybug. Much appreciated!
Luring the eagle to owner's glove (best larger) The next competition at the Eagle Festival was one of the most exciting from the point of view of the action and the challenges to the photographer. The eagle hunter's golden eagle is taken to the top of a hill behind the competition field and the eagle hunter waits below on his horse, holding a rabbit leg or a piece of fox meat. When the eagle's hood is removed and it is released, the hunter calls the eagle to him by waving the meat in the air and galloping his horse across the field. The time taken from release to the eagle landing on the hunter's glove is recorded and the winner is the one with the fastest time. Things do not always go according to plan. Sometimes the eagle misses the bait and has to try again, sometimes it lands on the ground and just sits there, and occasionally it just flies away to do its own thing. The photographic challenge is to anticipate when and where the eagle will get close enough to the hunter to catch the moments of capture, which can take place anywhere in a large field. This photo is a 3 shot collage of a successful capture... by the eagle and the eagle hunter (...and the photographer). Each of the 3 individual shots can be seen here, along with a couple more shots of the best eagle, costume and horse competition (the eagle is hooded in this competition, and unhooded in the 'return to owner' competition): http://goo.gl/RMcXuQ 07/07/15 www.allenfotowild.com
July 7, 2015 This was the sky as I drove home last night.
July 7. The beetles are absolutely out of control right now. Our poor Plum Tree in our front yard is slowly transforming to a skeleton. We have several traps and they are filling up quickly. I have to guess with this unusual Summer weather (humid with lots of rain), may be playing a role in their abundant increase in attendance this year.
Tuesday, July 7, 2015 "COUNTER DISPLAY" (The Metamorphosis) "The best intelligence test is what we do with our leisure." ~ Laurence J. Peter Here's another one of my "artistic creations," as a result of playing around with a Topaz Impressions filter in Topaz Labs. The background in the original photo was unappealing, in my opinion. I'm thinking the interior designer coordinated this display with the display in yesterday's photo. Also, this place has the best casino buffet food I've eaten. My beautician of 25 years told me about this place. The original ("before") photo can be viewed here: http://godschild.smugmug.com/TravelOhthePlacesWeveBeen/Vicksburg-MS-Daytrip-2010/i-QWfm4Zw/A (original photo taken 4/3/2015; post processed on 4/22/2015) Have a terrific Tuesday! July 7, 2015 Thank you all for your comments on my photo yesterday "As Seen Through the Glass" - they were very much appreciated, and I enjoyed reading each one of them. Today's photo is of an Abraham Lincoln statue in Louisville, Kentucky. It was treated to a Topaz Adjust filter to give it some color and texture. Yes, I know it's blown out in several areas, but I liked it anyway. "Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm." ~ Abraham Lincoln Thank you for your comments and critiques. Stand firm today my friends! Linda http://lgood.smugmug.com

Day 185: NYC Macy Fireworks Empire State Building - July 6. Thanks for the wonderful comments posted for yesterday's fireworks image. Here is another. With the haze and low cloud cover, the smoke built up behind the skyline very quickly and I only got a few clear shots but I'm happy that I got them.
July 7 2015 The Bean Cloud Gate as it is formally known, has been in Millennium Park in Chicago since 2004. It attracts huge crowds all the time and I never miss a chance to photograph it. It measures 33 by 66 by 42 feet, and weighs about 100 tons. This is very near the climbing wall that I posted a picture of yesterday.
July 7 - Uncle Sam at the parade.
06.07.15 - The Power of the Written Word! Part of me wanted to post this without a comment and let people make their own minds up about it, but it is such a controversial subject I think it deserves explanation first. "Mein Kampf" is probably the most dangerous, and most offensive to many, book ever published, it's sale is still banned in Germany I believe. I found this copy in an old box inside a bag in my loft yesterday, it belonged to my father. He was certainly no Nazi, it was one of many "souveniers" he collected during his service in WW2. I remember seeing it as a kid and thinking it was so exciting, but I was far more interested in running round the house wearing an old German soldier's helmet and looking at my Dad's medals. Now I'm aware of the significance of this book and not sure what to do with it. Do I keep it as a family heirloom, with the connections to my Dad, and because of it's historical significance, do I sell it, or simply throw it away?
Sunrise approaches and the color lights the sky!
