Waiting for the ferry in the rain (best largest) Sunday night I was in the ferry line-up waiting for the ferry from Mayne Island back to Vancouver. It was raining and I noticed one ferry coming into the dock and starting to unload its cars onto the island, while the other one was waiting beside it to take us off the island. The windshield was covered with rain drops and so I started to play with my D810 to try to capture some of the lights and reflections. For this photo I set the camera on aperture priority, f16 and braced the camera on the steering wheel of my car to steady it. The raindrops on the windscreen resulted in a foreground bokeh and the ferry and cars were sharp, which was the effect I was trying to get. The image is as shot with no filters or other manipulations. You can see cars unloading in the background from the ferry on the left, and one or two people inside the upper deck of the ferry. You can also see the backs of the cars in front of me, waiting to load onto the ferry on the right. As a bonus, at the far left middle you can see a the lights of another ferry out in Trincomali Channel, just coming into view. 29/12/14 www.allenfotowild.com
Peregrine Falcon - taken near Olympia, Wa. I really appreciate the comments!
December 29, 2014 On a recent afternoon it was a foggy, gray day here at the house. Not great weather to be outside, and certainly not the best for photography. But, being a little (well, it was more like a LOT) bored I was on the back patio doing some leaf blowing and noticed this one leaf that was still clinging tenaciously to one of the branches on one of our Red Oak trees. I couldn't resist, and had to take a shot just for fun. I think it turned out pretty well, not a masterpiece, but a simple shot, for a simple statement that seems to say, "I'm still here." "Patience and tenacity are worth more than twice their weight of cleverness." ~ Thomas Huxley Be tenacious in achieving your goals today my friends. Linda http://lgood.smugmug.com
Dec.29. Green Iguana. They are bright green in their early years, while mature adults exhibit a darker green or grayish color. Mature dominant males have taller dorsal spines as well as blue and or orange coloration around the head and neck. They are non aggressive vegetarians, but if threatened will bite or whip very hard with their long tails.

12/29/14 - Cactus flower with raindrops Thanks for your comments on my shot of the goats! Someone commented that it looked like they were thinking about eating the camera. I read last week about some town that is using a herd of goats to eat all the Christmas trees after the holidays.

December 29, 2014 I love door handles.
Going for a swim on Christmas day
I was feeding shelled corn to a flock of 11 trumpeter swans (only one in this shot), several dozen mallards, and one lone hooded merganser (not seen in this shot). The action - competition - got pretty intense at times. DP363-2014 Posted Monday, December 29; processed Dec. 28 This is another shot of birds on the water which is posted more for interesting (I hope) content than for technical quality. The birds were moving in and out of the frame so fast that 'composition' became more an accident than a deliberate act, and maintaining any kind of sharp focus was a joke. I need more practice on moving subjects, obviously. Taken Dec. 22, 2014, along the Huron River at Gallup Park, Ann Arbor Title: Feeding Frenzy
28.12.14 - Snowy Sunset We've not had any more snow but the freezing temperature has meant that what fell the other night hasn't all melted yet. It made for a beautiful sunset dog walk yesterday, hope you can see Mr Willis in the top panorama?
