Toco toucan (Ramphastos toco) perched by a pool, Foz do Iguacu, Brazil The toco toucan (common toucan) is the largest member of the toucan family with a bill up to 23 cm (9 in) long. The bill is not as heavy as it looks, as it is largely hollow inside. It is used to pick and peel fruit and other food, and to reach things that might otherwise be out of reach. It can also be used to scare off predators. 28/11/14 www.allenfotowild.com
