The weaver In a small ethnic Miao village I was invited into a home and taken down the stairs into a dark smoky basement room where a woman was weaving by the light coming through a dirty window. Biasha Miao ethnic village, Guizhou Province, China Photographing people indoors in China was a challenge because often there was no light but that which came from a small window. I didn't want to use flash light since it can give an artificial look to the photos, so started experimenting with 'Rembrandt' style lighting using ambient light from the natural sources. This resulted in a more dramatic lighting than could be achieved using on-camera flash. Jabiru stork (Jabiru mycteria) with a catch of a large long-whiskered catfish (Pseudoplatystoma corruscans) AKA Spotted sorubim, Pixaim River, Pantanal, Brazil The catfish is almost as long as the stork's bill (best larger) If you're not too bored with bird shots, a few more can be seen here: http://goo.gl/j9Z7M0 I'm going to take a bit of a break from posting and commenting. 13/01/14 www.allenfotowild.com

January 31, 2015 This shot was taken at one of my favorite locations to shoot in Las Vegas - Fremont Street. It's old Vegas at it's "new" best. Lots to see, lots of street performers, music, crowds and neon for as far as the eye can see. Have a "Lucky" day today my friends! Linda http://lgood.smugmug.com

In a rural field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, a single boulder in the distance marks the impact site of Flight 93, where 33 passengers and 7 crew were killed on September 11, 2001. Check back to view an upcoming gallery of this memorial site that honors the brave and selfless actions of the passengers and crew that defeated terrorist plans just 18 minutes before the plane would have reached it target of attack in the nation's capital.
1/31/15 - Grass seedheads weighed down by successive waves of hoarfrost, snow, and ice crystals Thanks for your comments on my shot of the night snowfall. Sounds like a lot of us are willing to try a still life challenge. I didn't really mean to imply that we should try to create an "Old Master" still life. I think anything really would qualify so long as it is some kind of setup. Why don't we begin it a week from Sunday and do it for four weeks. Keep it as siimple or complicated as you like. Hopefully, a lot of us will participate.
30.01.15 - Under the Horsehead Nebula This composite of Lincoln under the Horsehead Nebula was done to order after my earlier ones stirred up some interest on Twitter. I also experimented with the reflection in the water, complete with ripples. I'm loving doing these, but the question keeps popping up in my head about whether we'd be able to see such things in our night skies with all the light pollution from the city? There are few places in the UK where you can see the Milky Way these days, I find it very sad

In the remote hills of Mazandaran Province of Iran, south of the town of Sari, lush forests look over rice fields in a country known more for its deserts than such green vistas. #63091362 © Payam Nashery - Photoarts
