Sunday, December 30, 2012 "LIGHTS AND REFLECTIONS" "How much you climb up the mountain is just as important as how you get down the mountain. And so it is with life, which, for many of us becomes one big gigantic test followed by one big gigantic lesson. In the end, it all comes down to one word.....grace. It's how you accept winning and losing, good luck and bad luck, the darkness and the light." ~ Philosophy SOOC, other than the frames, which were created with Picnik. Unfortunately, the picnik is over. As announced earlier, Picnik closed on April 19, 2012. Sunday, February 26, 2012 "RED BARON SQUADRON" "When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it." ~ Henry Ford SOOC, uncropped; flash didn't fire Polished to perfection, and built in 1943 comes this 69 year old Stearman E75, N802RB of the Red Baron Pizza aerobatic team. It carried Boeing construction number 75-6451. The Red Baron Squadron was established in 1979 as a promotion for Red Baron Pizza. The squadron flew vintage Stearman biplanes and was the oldest civilian air team in the United States, attending airshows throughout the country and flying formation aerobatics. Their base of operations and air museum was at the Southwest Minnesota Regional Airport in Marshall, Minnesota. In 2007, after 28 years of flying, the company announced the retirement of the squadron. Monday, February 27, 2012 "EARLY SPRING BLOSSOMS AND BUDS" (Japanese Magnolias) "One of the most attractive things about the flowers is their beautiful reserve." ~ Henry David Thoreau First of all, I genuinely appreciate your comments on my "Red Baron Squadron" aircraft photo yesterday; it landed in the #1 (numero uno) spot. There are always outstanding posts in this community, and I never take for granted that you take the time to peruse and comment on mine. SmugMuggers rock!!! Additionally, two days ago, I mentioned that it's been a while since I've been able to get out and take new photos. Well, yesterday evening, my hubby noticed these blooms on a tree in our backyard. The other day, I noticed that there were only buds. Isn't it amazing the changes that can occur in a few days? Once temperatures start warming up, Japanese Magnolias on this tree always wave goodbye to winter by launching an impressive display of large, pinkish flowers. Anyway, I grabbed my camera and took only two quick snaps; and we both liked this one best, as it shows off the flowers and buds against that deep blue evening sky. Finally, I was so elated to have the camera back in my hands:). "Come and visit me sometime; my flowers would like to meet you." ~ Unknown Author Happy Monday, my friends! ***#2 photo of the day and all-time*** (photo taken 2/26/2012) My Homepage: http://www.Godschild.smugmug.com
Sunday, May 15, 2011 "ANTIQUE CHEVY" (pp version) "Keep calm and drive a Chevy!" ~ Unknown Author Linda (aka Lgood) is one of the absolute best at capturing automobile shots and their reflections, and I immediately thought of her when I spotted this GM classic. Unfortunately, there wasn't an information card, so I am unsure as to the year of this "oldie but goodie." My hubby's guess is it's a "1930 something Chevy." The pink sign made spectators chuckle. It warned, "UNLESS YOU ARE NUDE.....PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH MY CHEVY! BUCKLES, BELTS, AND BUTTONS SCRATCH." As you can see, I did some pp with this one, but it is uncropped. The original image can be viewed here: http://godschild.smugmug.com/gallery/16609546_tdrqK#!i=1274849067&k=9MMHm66&lb=1&s=A Your comments on yesterday's "Got Mail" POTD are really appreciated; you all are really a wonderful community of photographers who are also supportive and helpful. Sunday, April 22, 2012 "THE PHOENIX" "Hold fast to your dreams, for without them life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly." ~ Langston Hughes SOOC........a different twist, but nevertheless, here's my contribution to fellow SmugMugger L. Perry Fuqua's "Earth Day" Challenge. Of course, the colors were the initial attraction to this work of art. This photo was taken as we were walking through the airport to await the boarding of our flight for home from Phoenix, AZ to Houston, TX. Unfortunately, I didn't get the artist name. DISCLAIMER: The following views are not my personal views, opinions, or beliefs. The texts are included as background, informational purposes only. A card was given to me by a young man who was standing in the store after I snapped this picture. The following texts were written on it. Coincidentally, when I uploaded the Arizona photos and started putting the dates on them, this one just so happened to fall on today. With that said........ "The Phoenix" is associated with triumph over adversity, and that which rises out of ashes. It is symbolic of hope, purity, faith, eternity, and light. The Phoenix not only represents immortality but also an individual who stands apart from the rest, a person of rare qualities." ~ Reprinted text from the information card that was sitting on a nearby table Additionally, "Only one Phoenix exists at a time. When the mystical bird felt its death was near, it would rebuild a nest of aromatic twigs in which it burned from the heat of its own body. The Phoenix would be consumed by the flames and then would resurrect from the ashes. The Phoenix's flight has been said to represent the capacity to leave the world and its problems behind, flying toward the sun in clear pure skies." ~ Reprinted text from the information card that was sitting on a nearby table Thanks for your comments on the collectible "Salt and Pepper Shakers" that landed in the #1 spot yesterday. Monday, December 17, 2010 "IKEBANA DOUBLE ENDER AND ROWBOAT with NIIJIMA FLOATS" by Dale Chihuly "Your attitude is like a box of crayons that color your world. Constantly color your picture gray, and your picture will always be bleak. Try adding some bright colors to the picture by including humor, and your picture begins to lighten up." ~ Allen Klein I've selected this one as my computer's screesaver. I am a huge admirer of Dale Chihuly's glass art. These were imported from Finland. The entire gallery of this collection can be viewed in my ArtScape folder. Monday, June 4, 2012 "WHAT FLOATS YOUR BOAT?" “O God, thy sea is so great, and my boat is so small.” ~ Unknown Author SOOC, uncropped "This small prayer (see the above quote) is known as the Breton Fisherman's Prayer, who are fishermen from Brittany, an administrative region in western France. The Breton Fisherman's Prayer was engraved on a brass plaque and presented to President John F. Kennedy by US Navy Admiral Hyman Rickover. The admiral would subsequently present the same type of plaque to all new commanders of Polaris submarines." Additionally, "The Breton Fisherman's Prayer is not typically used by scouting groups such as the US branches of boy and girl scouts. Some Canadian girls associations have used this and/or variations of this in their printed material, as well as this prayer being the motto of the Children's Defense Fund." Reprinted texts from here: http://www.answers.com SPEAKING OF SPORTS: Boston Celtics defeated Miami Heat in overtime last night in Boston. The final score was 93 - 91 and the series is tied 2 - 2. Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals will be tomorrow in Miami, FL. The family and I are pulling for Boston. Tonight, San Antonio Spurs host Oklahoma City Thunder in game 5 of the Western Conference Finals. The series is tied 2 - 2. The family and I are pulling for OKC! Friday, January 28, 2011 "PRIMARY AND SECONDARY" Abstract "There is no abstract art. You must always start with something. Afterward you can remove all traces of reality." ~ Pablo Picasso This is my 3rd PP creation; it is the transformation of yesterday's POTD. Isn't it amazing how much different it looks? Sunday, February 20, 2011 "O is for ORNAMENT" "A true friend is someone who knows your faults and genuinely loves and accepts you anyway." ~ Unknown Author SOOC, uncropped This is a beautiful, crystal Christmas tree ornament that was a gift from my best friend in 2009. I turned off the lights in the room to darken the background. Also, I intentionally did not position the camera to center the photo, because I had an "eye" for something different. Additionally, before I pushed the button to take the picture, I twisted the hanger to make the ornament spin - thus, the variations in color. Finally, as the French saying goes, "Voila!" Sunday, March 13, 2011 "NEWSPAPER WALL ART" "It is the common wonder of all men, how among so many million faces, there should be none alike." ~ Thomas Browne These are the faces of four famous icons; can you guess which ones? No cheating:). The artist/artists name(s) was/were not listed. The "great reveal" will be tomorrow. This is another photo from my four day job-related trip to the Gulf Coast, March 1 - 4, 2011. It's SOOC and uncropped. I love beautiful, unique and interesting art; this one is all three! It was created with newspapers; believe it or not!! Monday, June 24, 2013 "MONDAY BLUES" “The best color in the whole world is the one that looks good on you!” ~ Coco Chanel SOOC, uncropped, flash fired "I think a number of us agree that Mondays are the most difficult transition. Although it has the same number of hours as the rest of the days, our internal clocks naturally operate on a day that is longer than 24 hours. It seems that it takes ages to get Monday over. We just had two glorious days off free from stress and doing stuff we love to do. Now we are back at work facing piles of tasks that meeting deadlines, list of appointments or some difficult unsolved tasks that we don’t really feel like doing." ~ Reprinted texts from http://www.123Greetings.com "Hey, come on… No matter we like it or not, we still have to get things done and to get the day over. Let's take some of the control back and make ourselves feel good by doing small things that can redirect your focus, such as share with your colleague about the fun you have over the weekend, reading some jokes, positive quotes or watch a short fun video. Let's fill up the Monday Blues with some colours." ~ Reprinted texts from http://www.123Greetings.com Here's the final test shot of one of my favorite necklaces taken with the new 35mm lens. I placed one of my crinkled blouses underneath as a backdrop. Someone apologized for posting a comment prior to me posting my "Starter Comment." "LIGHTS AND REFLECTIONS"

"How much you climb up the mountain is just as important as how you get down the mountain. And so it is with life, which, for many of us becomes one big gigantic test followed by one big gigantic lesson. In the end, it all comes down to one word.....grace.
