December 24, 2014 This is a shot from a visit to the Texas State Railroad which is a classic steam train that runs from Palestine to Rusk, Texas then makes the same trek back. According to Wikipedia: The Texas State Railroad was founded in 1881 to haul freight between the two towns. The freight hauling activities ended in 1921. The state leased the line to private companies until 1969 then turned it over to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in 1972. In 2007, the railroad was transferred to the Texas State Railroad Authority and is now privately operated as a living history museum." Our family loves taking this ride at least once every summer. For many of you that have participated in the Dailys for awhile, you know that I live with a family that are certifiable train nuts. This shot is at the Rusk depot where the make the turnaround to head back to Palestine. This gentleman was riding as spotter to ensure the proper hook up of the engine to the passenger cars. It's hard to believe that tomorrow is Christmas. It's arrived (for me) very quickly. Nevertheless I'm in the spirit, all the gifts have been purchased and wrapped, and we are looking forward to spending time with family and friends. Bill and I will have a quiet day tomorrow and enjoy each other's company. A neighborhood Christmas party on Friday, and the 2nd of our family Christmas gatherings on Saturday. We're really looking forward to the time together and for me, some time away from the office. Have a fantastic day my friends! Linda http://lgood.smugmug.com Late Post - I got my calendar a little ahead of the actual one on my starter comment. Nevertheless Happy early New Year's Eve, AND a Merry Christmas Eve to all!
Any more, poinsettias come in a range of colors, and I'm not talking about dyed ones, but hybrids that are bred to produce different colors. I liked the water drops on these plants (not rain!) that were in the Arid House part of the Conservatory. DP358-2014 Posted Wednesday, December 24; processed December 23 For those of you who are big poinsettia fans, I've begun a gallery that is exclusively poinsettias (http://arctangent.smugmug.com/Holidays/Christmas/Poinsettias-Up-Close-En-Masse/46512215_zLT7hv) Matthaei Botanical Gardens, Ann Arbor December 22, 2014 Title: Pink Poinsettias
Iya River gorge in the fall with the Kazurabashi (vine) Suspension Bridge, Shikoku Island, Japan (best larger to see the details) Although vine suspension bridges used to be common in Japan (perhaps because they were easily chopped down if you were being pursued) they are rare nowadays. This used to be the only way to cross the Iya River. Rebuilt every three years, this bridge is designated as a national important folkloric property and is one of Japan's three rare bridges. Other views of the bridge and the surrounding area can be seen here: http://goo.gl/JbtKlA Merry Christmas everyone! 24/12/14 www.allenfotowild.com

23DEC2014 Into East Ralston On the way home from a brothers home I shot tonight on the BNSF line that crosses thru Southwest Omaha. Leaning up against the crossing arm weight in the rain the people just feet away chuckle at my stupidity for failing to come in out of the rain, look its turning to snow soon they say. Ten sixty six crosses 72nd street westbound into East Ralston at dusk tonight…a three mile shot in the sleet, he's doing forty and putting the hammer down to Lincoln. Merry Christmas, thanks for looking!
