"The River Flows" On my way home from an appt. today I stopped at one of my favorite fishing spots on the Rockaway River in my town to grab this capture. I've watched the roof continue to collapse over the years and soon it will just fall in completely. This is one of the best trout spots around here and they stock the river just upstream weekly during trout season from the farm with tags on them so you know if you caught a wild or farm bread fish. Anyway, it was an overcast day here as you can see and it really brought some nice contrast into the picture that I liked. I had to make slight levels adjustments to bring the clouds out a bit more and then some selective dodging & burning to the shadow areas but not much more to this one. Oh and a slight filter applied to bring the colors up a bit since it was so dark here. 10 min. of work and it was finished. 11/05/09 - Historic Yates Mill Pond at Sunset I posted a picture of the actual water wheel in my gallery earlier this year. In this picture, you can't see the wheel, but you get this lovely reflection instead. After Joey's flu shot, I decided to make the best of a wonderful afternoon and go for a quick hike around the mill pond. Unfortunately, we were really there a good 30-60 minutes too late to be taking good pictures. I had to bump up the saturation on this one to improve the color. This is the same shot taken on 10/26 last year when the sun was better and the tree closest to the mill still had yellow leaves on it. http://fotomom.smugmug.com/Yates-Mill-Pond/Yates-Mill-Photo-Contest-2009/7088136_34LZC#454338880_TdGL2 In both cases, the sky looks better in the reflection than in the final shot. I'm not sure how to get around that...especially in last night's picture when the sky really didn't have much blue in it. We still have not had a frost or freeze at my house, but it look like it's coming Friday night into Saturday. I am storing ceramic bird baths and pots and taking in fragile plants that I can save. I sure wish today was Friday... HAGD, Maryann

13.02.10 - Lady of the Butterflies I rarely do portrait work, so always jump at the chances when they come along. Hopefully this is another of those images that few would recognise instantly as one of mine. I did a B&W conversion, increased the contrast slightly, then applied a touch of warming filter. Tomorrow we are shooting at Goltho Church, which is where I shot the snowdrops that I used for my Daily on Wednesday.
Post 507 5/13/09 Dr. Andrew Fingeret made his mom smile....literally! He did a fantastic job creating these porcelain laminate veneers for his mother...Andrew is the new young associate in our practice and he is doing some beautiful dentistry! ***This shot was straight out of the camera. Cropped in with lens when I shot it. Yesterday when I cleaned his mom's teeth, it was the first time I had a chance to see the new veneers. Laminates are very technique sensitive (meaning your dentist needs to be skilled in doing them) and you need a good lab to carry through the dentists vision of his work. Sure got both here! I was excited to take this pic and especially so when mom agreed that I could show them off as my picture of the day! Thanks for your comments on yesterday's swan shot. HERE is the link to the little swan gallery I made if you would like to take a peek!
The Journey begins... Please accept my apologies if I do not get to your shot right aways. Please let me explain. Taking care of my mom is virtually like taking care of a toddler. She can only take a few steps and she has to have diapers. I giver her meds to her, I get her up and in the wheelchair to take her to the dinning room to eat. She can feed herself so that's good. Basically when she needs something I have to get it. So if I don't comment right away I haven't forgotten you I'm just in the middle of something. Have a GRATEFUL day. and smile... *

February 21, 2011 - "Restoration Questionable" This vehicle is on display in front of some Key West stores. I did some research and believe that nameplate on the hood is part of the original vehicle. Your response to my Key West sunset image was greatly appreciated.

Daily Post 1103 - 68/365 3/09/2014 - Alphabet Challenge "G" This was a tough one…very tough for me and I admit to a little cheat (sorry!)… I saw my headphones on the table and could 'see' where there 'could be' a G in their shape. I put them on the floor to photograph them and did a bit of tweaking to the ear pads to make the "G". I hope I don't get 'kicked out' of the dailies for tampering!!! :) Thank you for your wonderfully kind comments on my Havana old car posted very late last night. I took so many pictures of the cars..they were addicting..I would just stand on the sidewalk and watch or photograph them one after another. I couldn't get enough and sadly my photos don't really do justice to how I felt seeing them in person. I'm really enjoying going through my files one by one for the dailies..I feel I'm finally making a dent in reviewing the photos from the trips to Cuba..still many to go and will probably continue to post them to the dailies as it is also a back up for me to have them on SmugMug…one of these days I'll finally have the massive amount of them scaled down enough to create their own galleries on SmugMug to save them. Thank you so very much for your time and thoughtful comments. Have a wonderful day!!!
In Memory of Jane My sister-in-law, Jane Parker, died this week from pancreatic cancer. She was 63 and was a shining light to those who loved her. Her light was only extinguished after she fought valiantly to survive. We were very proud of her. She had started and continued to support a program in the Tampa area which provided support services to women who were expecting a baby which was already dead or likely to die right after birth. Jane helped hundreds of women deal with this tragedy. For most of her life, she worked as a nurse. She also worked with women whose pregnancies were at risk and helped many of them successfully bring healthy babies into the world. Jane was an enthusiastic and loving mother, grandmother, wife and sister, as well. She and her husband loved sailing and spent many days on the ocean. She had an incredible zest for living. Her tireless efforts on behalf of her family and others provided her with great joy and satisfaction. She was an inspiration to us and she will be sorely missed.
