The name of this zinnia variety is 'Uproar Rose'. Quite appropriate for its riotous fuchsia color, I'd say DP192-2014 Posted July 11; processed ditto A more conventional shot which shows an entire bloom of this zinnia is here: http://smu.gs/1tuoUsU A note about processing on this shot. I tried desaturating the reds and blues in an attempt to bring out more petal detail. It justed made the shot look washed out without raising any significant detail, so I left it as it was, at the original saturation level. Matthaei Botanical Gardens, Ann Arbor July 2, 2014 Title: Raising a Ruckus Thanks so much to all who expressed their enjoyment of yesterday's delphinium shot.
July 11. This was the only strand of red in the field, which really stood out to me. Sunday is Z, then what?
Mokoyan-Gurevich MIG-15 The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 (Russian: Микоян и Гуревич МиГ-15; NATO reporting name: "Fagot") is a jet fighter aircraft developed by Mikoyan-Gurevich OKB for the Soviet Union. The MiG-15 was one of the first successful swept-wing jet fighters, and achieved fame in the skies over Korea, where early in the war, it outclassed all straight-winged enemy fighters in most applications. Later, the MiG-15 would also serve as a starting point for the development of the more advanced MiG-17. The MiG-15 is believed to have been one of the most widely produced jet aircraft ever made, in excess of 12,000 were manufactured. Licensed foreign production may have raised the production total to over 18,000 The MiG-15 is often mentioned along with the North American F-86 Sabre as among the best fighter aircraft of the Korean War and in comparison with fighters of other eras. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikoyan-Gurevich_MiG-15 Planes of Fame Air Show, May 3-4, 2014 Chino Airport Chino, CA Thank you for your views and comments! 2-12: Back after being very sick for almost a week. Wednesday morning I finally felt good enough to get up and take some pictures. This was taken a few minutes before sunrise on the Collindale golf course.
11-29: Friday morning we woke up to fog in Fort Collins, so I decided to go up to Horsetooth again. I took this shot of the fog spilling over the hilll towards the water. I think this picture looks better when viewed larger.
"The Road to Color" 10/16/08 While Driving today I got stuck behind a SLOW POKE on the only single lane road leading out of town and was getting frustrated so I jumped off onto this small fire road and was shocked by the colors in this tunnel like ride. it was raining pretty good all day today so there was no sun and nasty puddles everywhere but I was able to snap this by opening my sun roof and sticking the D300 out on constant focus and shot it while doing about 10 mph. I was amazed by the composition I was able to get since I was in the center of the road and being above the car it gave me some extra height then the usual eye view, I think it worked out pretty well LOL. In post I did a minor contrast adjustment and small crop off the bottom, that's it! I'm enjoying the colors here now but I see them disappearing very rapidly so I'm going to try and get some shots everyday now until their gone. It's supposed to get very cold here starting tonight in the 50's as a high during the day and low 40's to high 30's at night Brrrrrrrrrr. I got some other shots from today to process yet but I will be putting them in my Fall Colors 2008 gallery when there finished. Hope you all enjoy your day, Bill Pador
July 29, 2009 - Texas Sage I really want a good macro lens. All this cropping to get the shot I want is not working well. Hmmmm do I starve the kids, deprive them of an education and dance classes, sell off the cars or stand on a street corner holding a sign that says "will work for glass"? LOL - J/K! ;)
September 23, 2007 Fog in the forest.

08/07/10 - Beauty on Orange For the 3rd day this week, I took my lunch break at Porter Farms and Nursery to get some refreshment at the ice cream stand and take butterfly pictures on their butterfly bushes. Nextdoor to Porters is Ogburn Landscape Supplies. Johnny has been fascinated this week watching the front loaders load mulch and rock into pick-up trucks. Mom has been using the one pile of orange tone sand for picture back-drops. The butterfly bushes are positioned just right;-) At any point, I realize I've posted 5 swallowtail shots already in 3 months, but this one seemed so different with the orange tone background and underbelly perspective that I thought I'd share it too. I'm thinking NC State Fairgrounds this AM for the flea market followed by the JC Raulstron Arboretum (which is a mile away) afterward if it's not too warm. We haven't done the flea market in a while, and I don't think I've ever taken the boys to that arboretum. It's tax free weekend in NC which means saving about 7.25% on clothes, school supplies, and computers. Kohl's was packed last night! Hoping you are having a great weekend so far and that it continues! Maryann
11/05/09 - Historic Yates Mill Pond at Sunset I posted a picture of the actual water wheel in my gallery earlier this year. In this picture, you can't see the wheel, but you get this lovely reflection instead. After Joey's flu shot, I decided to make the best of a wonderful afternoon and go for a quick hike around the mill pond. Unfortunately, we were really there a good 30-60 minutes too late to be taking good pictures. I had to bump up the saturation on this one to improve the color. This is the same shot taken on 10/26 last year when the sun was better and the tree closest to the mill still had yellow leaves on it. http://fotomom.smugmug.com/Yates-Mill-Pond/Yates-Mill-Photo-Contest-2009/7088136_34LZC#454338880_TdGL2 In both cases, the sky looks better in the reflection than in the final shot. I'm not sure how to get around that...especially in last night's picture when the sky really didn't have much blue in it. We still have not had a frost or freeze at my house, but it look like it's coming Friday night into Saturday. I am storing ceramic bird baths and pots and taking in fragile plants that I can save. I sure wish today was Friday... HAGD, Maryann
