November 7, 2009 - Reflections at a local Madison park. a short trip to Madison,Wisconsin on a beautiful, sunny weekend
Hey, Mom, isn't this how YOU make soup? Last week I had my first ever photoshoot with a baby. Chyler is an adorable six-month-old girl and has to have one of the best dispositions ever. I shot pictures of her for over an hour and she never fussed at all, except when her mom was changing her outfit for the second time. This is one of the images from that shoot. If you are interested, the rest are here: http://fotoeffects.smugmug.com/gallery/8414425_vn5R3#P-1-12. Thanks for all the nice comments on my hubby's picture today. There were sure a lot of terrific shots on the dailies today. We are going to a breakfast and preview of a show of the work of Fernando Botero, a Mexican artist, at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. Botero sculpts and paints and is known for his characterizations of rather rotund people. We're looking forward to seeing the show. Have a great day, everyone!
Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs has fantastic views, throw in a thunder storm and things get real interesting. Sharp eyed viewers will spot a climber on one of the formations.

I waited for 6 months for the sun to go down in the midle of the road. Fortunately it did not rain that day. I brought a boy with me to wave good night to the sun. Suddenly I saw the birds comming from the left, and got them in "the decive moment".
050211 Tree in Shohola Falls Long week last week with the shutter failing on my Nikon D50 and computer problems at work. Took a drive to Delaware Water Gap over the weekend to get away. Trying to adjust to my D60 but I liked my older camera.

08/29/09 - I took more candle shots last night. This is the same set-up as the night before, but I used a different candle style. What I was going for was the perspective of high in the front and low in the back. Not just a curve but a curve with an interesting height perspective in it. Mostly I was just having fun with glass and reflections and seeing if I could produce a pretty picture...maybe something for a romantic greeting card. But, coming up with catchy titles is not my thing, so, here you have it title free:-) Dirkster, here's the set-up: http://fotomom.smugmug.com/Art/Glass-Appeal-16/9421013_LHGKh#633028939_z3Uuy Yes, I was bathroom shooting. To get this effect, you need two mirrors that are reasonably parallel to each other. I just happen to have a small medicine cabinet with a mirror door on the right wall and another mirror over the sink. You open the medicine cabinet door and waa laa you have two roughly parallel mirrors. Nice thing about this set-up is that it was at a normal height for shooting without a lot of bending. Complications: The darn flame was ALL OVER THE PLACE despite me doing everything I could to keep the air in the room from moving. Sometimes if I'd wait a minute or two between shots it would cycle straight and still for 3-5 seconds and then resume it's dance. I'd try to take my pic when it was more or less still but that was hard. Amazing how you stop breathing when trying to take a 3 second picture. Joey was with me around 8PM for 45 minutes helping me, and Johnny popped in and out a few times. Joey has gotten pretty good about gently taking the pic and understands why we can't move the camera. This was Party Lite candle wax, and at the right temp, it melts completely liquid. I put the candle holder in the oven at 175 to to melt the wax quicker. But, in the bathroom, over time the wax started to get solid again. I have one great all liquid shot, but there are a few things about that pic that bother me, so I chose not to post it. But, I thought the liquified wax was pretty cool. http://fotomom.smugmug.com/Art/Glass-Appeal-16/9421013_LHGKh#633186200_Ddoh7 Anyway....................... You guys have a great weekend! 2 more days and I will be off call and much happier... Maryann

Day 37 - Love Thank you for all the great comments. I was quite nervous taking this set of flower photos for a wedding catalog because the flowers were to be used for a wedding the next morning. The client was rushing me in worries that the flowers being out of the refrigerator too long and its losing freshness. It was my first job shooting flowers commercially and that was quite an experience, to say the least.
The Journey begins... Please accept my apologies if I do not get to your shot right aways. Please let me explain. Taking care of my mom is virtually like taking care of a toddler. She can only take a few steps and she has to have diapers. I giver her meds to her, I get her up and in the wheelchair to take her to the dinning room to eat. She can feed herself so that's good. Basically when she needs something I have to get it. So if I don't comment right away I haven't forgotten you I'm just in the middle of something. Have a GRATEFUL day. and smile... *
Day 10 - The sun is reflected in water droplets on fir tree needles; please look at this in the large size and you'll see the starbursts in all the water drops. I took this shot a couple of months ago when we had our first bout of hoarfrost. I dashed out the take photos, but the sun was melting the frost faster than I could capture it. I ended up spending about two hours taking photos of water drops all over the garden and yard. I remember being so excited that I forgot to get breakfast for my poor long-suffering hubby. You all posted a lot of great images today. I really enjoyed looking through them all. It is amazing how much talent is here on smugmug. I am constantly being inspired to try new things by all the creativity I see here. So, thanks, everyone for being SUCH an inspiration! Hope your day is lovely. I know Dave is getting buried in snow again in Seattle. I think we're all ready for winter to end.

07/10/10 - Not Your Purple Coneflower This is one of the 'special' varieties of Coneflower that The Garden Hut had when I visited on Thursday. Shorter stem and shorter petals and what a cool orange/yellow color. I'm not sure what the other flower was behind them, but I liked the color that flower added to the shot. Thank you very much for the comments on my flower shot from yesterday... It's cloudy here today big time, and even though there was rain near me last night, just a drop at my house. HAGD, Maryann
