05-30-2015 - Renaissance Festival - A great place to have fun...       Link to Photo Without Frame
April 12, 2011 Hello everyone, I'm really late getting my POTD posted today. We had some pretty wild weather here in Waxahachie, TX and have been without electricity for about 36 hours. It's just a reminder how much we sometimes take 'every day things' for granted, like hot water, lights, microwave, etc. The good news is it's back on and we didn't sustain any damage, but unfortunately a lot of people around here did. My heart goes out to several that lost roofs, trees, fences and one in particular who lost his entire building that his business was housed in. Fortunately there were no injuries. So my apologies for not commenting lately - I'll get caught up soon. I'm headed to Birmingham again in the morning for the rest of the week, but I'll have some evenings in the hotel that I can enjoy your wonderful photos and comment. I thank all of you sincerely for your wonderful comments today and yesterday. It's probably going to be a "Mustang" photo week, since we went to a National Mustang show this past weekend. This is a 1969 Mach 1, like my car - except that it has a 351 motor and mine has a 390. But the biggest difference is that this car has won so many Concourse d'Elegance gold awards that it is now in the Conservator class. It has all of the parts that it would have had when it originally rolled off the factory floor in 1969. Making conservator is really, really tough. This one was a beauty and is a gorgeous maroon color. The car came to Texas for the show from Illinois. Hope you enjoy - this is SOOC. Have a great evening! Linda
May 30, 2015 This is granddaughter Eleanor enjoying ice cream at a local fast food place. You can see that she's in hog heaven. I loved the innocent joy on her face. Eleanor is our next to the youngest grandchild, she will be 4 on June 17th. Her cousin Kaylin (who you all have seen photos of) is the youngest of the grands and she will be 4 on July 20th. April 18... Reflections in a lake
in a remote village in Northern Vietnam. I snapped this picture north of the village Sapa Vietnam which is one of the poorest but most beautiful regions of Vietnam. This little girl who is probably no more than 5 years of age is carrying and caring for her young brother while her parents work in the rice fields. They came down from their hut to meet us because we brought a few small candies for them to eat. The girl and boy had never tasted candy before and they were delighted with the small candies we gave them. The trip was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. They had so little but treated every small gift as something amazing. While it seemed like I had so much compared to them, I realized when I was there that I had very little compared to them. They had learned to appreciate each other and their families as cherished possessions while I had been taught to cherish material things. It was a moment where I think we all had reason to envy each other. What an eye opening and life changing experience it was for me.
Who is watching whom? This is a European Ground Squirrel. They burrow in fields and especially in sandy hillsides (like vineyards, for example). This looks like an old guy who doesn't get upset to see humans - just bored.
