Turkey Vulture - I was visiting family last weekend and I found some vultures(no relation) circling low over a canyon just before sunset. There were about 20 vultures, some on power poles and others circling between me and the sun but occasionally one would circle behind were I got some decent light. Taken in Snake River Birds of Prey area near Kuna, Id. Note: the under exposed area under the wing was very noisey when i tried to lighten it. I may try to fix that again later.

MS Statendam at dock at the cruise ship terminal, Vancouver, BC The north shore mountains can be seen in the background. I was the photographer at a private fund-raising event onboard the MS Statendam for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra this summer. The event consisted of a lunch and a piano concert by Maestro Bramwell Tovey, the symphony conductor. With the permission of the Maestro's publicist I am posting a few photos from the event. Other photos, including photos of the Maestro at the piano, can be seen here (no photos of the event patrons are posted): http://goo.gl/3bbK6d 27/08/14 www.allenfotowild.com
8/27/14 - Ford Mustang logo, taken for Rick's challenge but I'm probably not going to use it for the challenge, so thought I'd use it for a regular daily. Thanks for your comments on my shot of the passionflower. They are such spectacular flowers; I'm always excited to get to shoot one.

Day 234: Eastern Comma Butterfly - August 26. Not flashy like some of the other colorful butterflies but the patterns and color nuances are beautiful in their own right to my mind.
When that pink hits your eye Like a bubble gum pie - That's hibiscus! When the blooms seems to shine 'cause the weather is fine - That's hibiscus. DP239-2014 Posted August 27; processed ditto. I lost internet service during a period of severe thunderstorms yesterday afternoon, before I had left any comments for the day, and only got it back this morning. So apologies for not responding to all the lovely comments left yesterday for my own shot. You have to be pretty old to recognize my lame parody of the tune from the 1950's, 'That's Amore', made popular by Dean Martin (originial lyrics here, for example: http://www.metrolyrics.com/thats-amore-lyrics-dean-martin.html) Lots of hibiscus are in bloom around town - almost like a second season of blooms, but none were any larger than these, which were the size of salad plates, fully 8-9 inches across. Taken August 21, 2014. Matthaei Botanical Gardens Title: Bubble Gum Pie

August 27, 2014 This old man was the driver of one of the watermelon buses. I don't think he spoke much English but he did smile a lot :)
Wednesday, August 27, 2014 "ORANGE CRUSH TRIO" “On Busy Bastards: A busy bastard can’t stop finding things to do. He never rests and as a result, his staff never rests. He’s always making work that expands to fill whatever time is available. The point I make in my book is: Be busy, work hard, but don’t become so busy that you cut out other things in life, like family and recreation and hobbies. And never be so busy that you’re not giving your staff and your followers enough time to do the same thing.” ~ General Colin Luther Powell, excerpt from "It Worked for Me: In Life and Leadership" SOOC, uncropped; flash didn't fire I attempted to catch a "busy bee" that landed on one of the wildflowers, but it flew away. This trio of "Cosmos Sulphureus WIldflowers" (aka "Cosmos Bright Lights") were photographed at the same location as the flowers in my previous two posts. Also, I had to stand on my tiptoes to photograph them. This annual wildflower grows quickly, blooms heavily, can thrive and survive in full sun, but dies with first frost. It can regrow following spring if seed falls on bare ground. It is a daisy-like flower that is native to desert areas, but can be grown successfully in all regions. It's "hump day." Have a wonderful Wednesday! 8/27/2014 ~ Serene One more scene from the Roaring Fork area of Smoky Mountain National Park. Thank you for the kind comments on yesterday's Texas barn shot!
Aug.27. While on our stop to check out the watermelon harvesting, this little thing was caught enjoying some too.
