Mallards - taken near Olympia, Wa. I really appreciate the comments!
Old door with women's and men's knockers. The entrance doors in Moslem house have two door knockers, one for men and one for women. These door knockers have different sounds so that the residents know if there is a man or a woman at the door, thus enabling women to be properly veiled when the knock is answered. (Don't you love all the interesting new things you learn when you travel?) Tabatabaei Historic House was built in early 1880s for the affluent Tabatabaei family.and was designed by the renowned Iranian architect Ustad Ali Maryam. Traditional homes in Iranian desert towns are usually built around a central courtyard with windows, doors, arches and other architectural features facing in, rather than out. Traditionally, activities in the house change location with the seasons. In winter, the family would gather in the south-facing side of the house which has larger windows to make the best of the winter light. Then in summer, more activities would take place in the north-facing side where the windows were smaller. 5/25/15 - A huge wind turbine blade, which is being transported to a John Deere wind farm in Gruber, TX. I took this years ago but when Linda mentioned the plant near her home that makes these, I thought that you all might like to see one of these on a truck. We were actually traveling in the Texas panhandle and were filling up with gas when three of these went by. We got in the car and raced ahead so that we could pass them and I could get out and take shots as they drove by, but just a bit ahead all three of them had pulled into an empty lot to check that things were ok. I put on my fish eye lens because I wanted to exaggerate the proportions, so this looks a bit longer than it really appeared, but it was huge. I also was able to photograph a truck transporting one of the bases a year or so later. On our recent trip to Texas, we passed a wind farm being constructed. The bases were all in place but the blades were lying next to each one waiting to be installed. We are seeing wind farms more and more, but it is often difficult to get a good pov for photos. Thanks for your comments on my shot of the three wind turbines.
Happy Memorial Day-Never Forget-Thank You 5 25 2015
These are memories for me. My cousin and I used to sit in a little restaurant like this with a juke box , bar stools, and read all the initials carved in the wood , or sometimes , right on the arborite tables . Easterbrooks, footlong hot dog diner is one of our favorites! See the initials ? It is warm and windy but thunder storms are in the forecast. 25/05/15
May 25, 2015 Spotted this guy on our drive Saturday, we just had to turn around and take a few photos before he flew off. We have seen eagles in this spot before but they have been much bigger.
May 25 2015 The back yard Happy Memorial Day to all you US smugmuggers. If the rain stays away we'll be out in the backyard with the whole family this afternoon for a cookout. Thanks for all the nice comments on yesterday's iris post.
May 25. Memorial Day. American proud. Thanks to those who served.
May 25, 2015 Happy Memorial Day everyone. I couldn't find a good photo for Memorial Day, but I do wish you all a great day and give thanks to those veterans that gave so much for our freedoms. This tree is in a little cemetery near our home, and there are actually a lot of veterans buried there. This shot was taken in March, 2014. I did find it interesting that there were so many crows in one tree. "Each man is good in His sight. It is not necessary for eagles to be crows."~ Sitting Bull Thank you for your comments and critiques. Have a great holiday. Linda http://lgood.smugmug.com

May 25 - Lest we forget
Climbing Rose The bush growing up our garden shed is in blossom. Here is a shot to brighten up a grey day. "slightly photoshopped" but I think it might make a good greeting/birthday card.
24.05.15 - Pinkertons! Walking to the local supermarket, taking the scenic route of course, I suddenly realised that everything was in technicolour, including me! I caused much amusement when I posted this on Facebook yesterday and pointed out that the t-shirt is 20 years old this summer. I bought it at a 5 day orienteering festival in Canada, the first 2 days of which were the Canadian Championships. My age class was won by another Brit, with me in 2nd place, so I treasure the shirt and have made it last pretty well! The event was in Alberta, with the first 2 days near a place called Smokey Lake north of Edmonton. The 2nd day was in fantastic surreal badlands terrain near the dinosaur museum at Drumheller, and the final 2 days were on the edge of the Rockies near Canmore. It was a trip of a lifetime that I will never forget
05-25-2015 "Happy Memorial Day" Sutton, my sister and I went to arrange flowers on my brother-in-law's grave. He served in the Navy and was a World War II and Korean War veteran. The cemetery had flags posted at every veteran's grave. It was an amazing sight. Without the bravery of men and women who have fought and are fighting for our country we would not have our freedom. Thank you for your service. Thank you for comments on my photos. Donna
