July 3, 21015 This is a shot taken during the family outing to ride the historic Texas State Railroad steam train from Palestine to Rusk, Texas and back again. About 1/2 way along the route, we passed another of the historic trains making the same trek. I almost forgot about the final Friday of Judy's lexicon challenge, but I was at a bit of a loss for a photo to post, so here's a couple of "sort of" lexicons for the word train: Caravan, Convoy, Concatenation (as in a connection or a chain) and consecution (arrangement, order, procession, series). Thank you for your comments and critiques! Have a fantastic day today friends, and I'm hoping you are looking forward to all the Independence Day celebrations this weekend. Pyrotechnic cacophony 'fireworks, bangers' and 'a harsh, discordant mixture of sounds' Running with live fireworks, Huanggang Dong Village, Guizhou Province, China After the parade of wedding gifts, the festivies degenerated into a loud, ear splitting cacophony, and a seemingly random unorganized fireworks frenzy. A popular 'trick' was lighting the end of a long red string of firecrakers and running down the street dragging the exploding string, as seen here. Other photos of the somewhat dangerous 'festivities' can be seen here: http://goo.gl/pFpaz2 03/07/15 www allenfotowild.com

July 3 2015 speculum: a mirror or reflector, especially one of polished metal Jill and I went downtown yesterday for the day to celebrate my birthday. I got a chance to try out the new camera. She took this shot of me in front of the Bean. It is surely the world's largest speculum. Thanks for all the birthday wishes yesterday.

7/3/15 - Peony; I like the crisp detail and the lovely colors Thanks for your comments on my shot of the allium bud with the water drops. We're off to the Cherry Creek Art Festival today...one of my favorite days of the year!
6/3/15 - For the Lexicon challenge: sloom - a gentle sleep or slumber, a light doze. Takin' a break at the flower mart at Pike's Place Market in Seattle I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with this week for the challenge.
Friday, July 3, 2015 "QUICK SNEAK" (The Metamorphosis) "I love music of all kinds, but there's no greater music than the sound of my grandchildren laughing; my kids, too." ~ Sylvia Earle Thanks to several of you who sent me e-mails about the "Lexicon Challenge" possibly NOT being today and some stating that today IS the final day (or the "grand finale" as I like to call it). We shared a good laugh about it. Whatever the verdict is, this photo was already uploaded, so here it is. It's another one of my "artistic creations" and in lexicon land, they are referred to as "JELLY EGGS" (noun) which, according to my Lexicon Dictionary, is defined as: (a) Candy/Candies. (b) Jelly Beans. (c) Sugar Candies. Shortly after pouring jellybeans on the plate to photograph them, the two-and-a-half year old grand-prince decided to grab a few. Authentic moments like this, in my opinion, just can't be staged, preplanned, or foreseen. Aren't grandchildren the absolute best? Photo slightly cropped. The original photo from which this one was created is here: http://godschild.smugmug.com/Miscellaneous/Here-There/i-p2DmFt9/A Did you know that "The earliest known reference to jelly beans is from Boston confectioner William Schraft in 1861, though they are thought to have evolved from the popular confection Turkish Delight. They became a popular treat in the early 20th century, and their fame grew when president Ronald Reagan declared them his favorite treat." ~ Reprinted text from Wikipedia here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jelly_bean Have a "sweet" and "grand" day! 02.07.15 - Ellis Mill This is an in camera HDR shot of Lincoln's last surviving working windmill, taken last night on our guided photo walk. It is staffed entirely by volunteers and they sell their own flour which is wonderful. Entry is also free, which is even more wonderful!
Day 182: Pink Rose- July 3. Thanks for all of the comments on my woodland sunflower post yesterday. My apologies for any odd comments that turned up on some folks posts yesterday or missing comments. Either my computer was having a breakdown or something was wrong with SM system because at times comments that I posted for one image, would show up again on another or typos would remain even after I corrected typing. Seems ok this morning.
