Stars streaming past the balanced rock in Arches National Park in Utah would probably be better enhanced with even a longer exposure but on this night with temperatures 30 degrees below freezing and a stiff wind, it proved too hard on the man and the machine! #13121440 © Payam Nashery - Photoarts

I know it's not the sharpest shot but I made many attempts before I got even this one. They certainly love to perch up high and I need a better camera . We have lots of birds coming and going now. " Found a sparrows nest and got a nice shot. Happy Saturday in the cool sunlight! post for 26/04/15

Lightning - during a night storm.
Day 114: White Hyacinth - April 24. One of the few spring bulbs that are blooming around the neighborhood sidewalk gardens. By next week should be seeing tulips and others, hopefully.

4/18/15 - I recently processed this shot taken a bit outside Olympic National Park in Washington, I think someone was actually living here. It definitely gives you a good idea of how damp it is there. We saw many houses with moss growing on their roof shingles. It must be a constant maintenance effort to keep it off. Thanks for your comments and sympathy of the spring snow shot. Hopefully, it did not last long enough to damage the blooming trees too much.

Mini Flowers Canvas Apr 24 I'm not sure what these are but they are very small, colorful, and cute!
Virtually every chickadee in the woods around the Nature Center knows that humans can be a source of food, and generally will come to your hand if you hold seeds and nuts in it for them. This one was checking me out for possible handouts. I had trouble keeping far enough away from it to keep it in focus! Since there are other species of chickadee, I should be more specific, and say that this is the black-capped chickadee, Poecile atricapillus. DP114-2015 Posted late Friday, April 24; taken and processed ditto I was able to get out for about 90 minutes of bird watching and general enjoyment of nature earlier today. It felt good, even if temperatures were only in the 50's F. Taken April 24, 2015 at Kensington Metro Park, Michigan Title: "Feed Me," says the chickadee
4/19/15 - Recent processed shot of part of the infrastructure of the locks on Lake Washington, Seattle. Take a look in the largest size. I'll be absent for about a week without 'net access. I'll look forward to catching up on all your shots when I get back from my trip. Thanks for your comments on my shot of the mossy RV!
08/09/10 - Oodles of Noodles If you don't know, those long foam tubes they use to help kids learn how to swim are called noodles. The kids and I were at the ClubWorx (gym) pool yesterday afternoon for several hours. They had fun swimming, splashing, jumping in, and playing with the noodles. Why you ask are they so much fun? Well, you put them all the way under the water, let the air out, and then do your best elephant impersonation blowing in one end and water out the other hopefully in your best friend's face:-) In this picture, the kids (L-R Johnny, Madi, and Joey) are trying to be patient during the 10 minute lifeguard break waiting for the whistle to sound so they can go back in. I also really loved this inflight shot of Joey: http://fotomom.smugmug.com/Nature/August-2010/13178134_KQNMz#963620895_V9m9y and Johnny: http://fotomom.smugmug.com/Nature/August-2010/13178134_KQNMz#963282385_v6jTg I started out treading water in the 9' section and talking Joey and Madi into jumping in to me and then treading water/swimming back to the side. After they got their confidence up, I got the camera, and they were jumping in on their own. Madi even got up the confidence to run, jump in, and swim 15' to the other side. It was such a great mom and godmother moment. Video: http://www.youtube.com/user/maryanngnc#p/a/u/1/L7tUDxIrhoo I hope you had as many smiles in your weekend as I had in mine:-) HAGD, Maryann
