The wrong kind of spring 'bloom'. For size perspective, the full 'petals' were on the order of 4-6 inches long. This is part of a thin shelf of ice that formed along the river bank as a result of overnight temperatures down into the teens F. March 31, 2015 Fort Sumter is where the first shots of the American Civil War were fired. Fort Sumter is on an island just a short boat ride away from Charleston, South Carolina. Bill and I visited it a few years ago, and we really enjoyed seeing this historical place. The cannons in this photo are huge. There were smaller ones there too, but these were monsters. I can't even imagine how loud they would be when fired. "The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity." ~ John Quincy Adams As always, I appreciate your comments and critiques. And a special thanks to everyone that commented on my older Yellowstone photos yesterday. That was a great surprise, and I'm very appreciative. You guys/gals ROCK! Have a great day! Happy lady Brazilian rider after crossing the Pixaim River on horseback, Pantanal, Brazil. Notice the sun freckles on her face where the light shone through her straw cowboy hat. In strong light it is better to place people in the shade to photograph them. In this case, the shade from her hat prevented harsh shadows on her face and gave her a lovely skin tone. 3/31/15 - Rosebud and drops; taken a while back but just recently processed. Thanks for the comments on my shot of the Chihuly burgundy sculpture. Like some of you, I don't believe that sculpture is glass but some type of resin. Regardless, it is certainly beautiful.
Good to see the hummers back guarding the feeders!
Sorry about the mess, But Happy to get the new 5D Mark III today. Hope to get out tomorrow. 3 31 2015
30.03.15 - Keep Walking Litle Doggie! A couple of years ago I got a very similar photo in almost exactly the same place as Mr Willis bumped into two swans on the riverside footpath. There was quite a bit of spitting from the swans, but otherwise the encounter passed peacefully. The swans are showing all the signs of building a nest, just like they did two years ago when they had at least 9 babies, so I'll be keeping an eye on them :)
Motion at the beach in Cancun - Here is getting hot and dry, so I'm dreaming about the time spent in Cancun :)
Mar 31 - Herding of the Cows (color) This image was taken in Benezette, PA near the Elk Country Visitors Center as the sun was starting to set. The color version of the image I posted yesterday. I like this one, but I prefer the black and white one better. Thanks so much for your comments yesterday!

Tuesday, March 31, 2015 "AMERICAN QUEEN" "Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living." ~ Mary Ritter Beard The Queen's departure......rolling on the river! As I mentioned yesterday, after church, we traveled to see the American Queen Steamboat moored at the Riverfront in Greenville, MS, a city approximately two hours from Jackson, MS, the state's capitol. Yesterday, I posted a photo of the American Queen tour bus. I also mentioned that it was one of the very rare occasions that I thought I had packed my camera, but hadn't. I am not fond of taking photos with cell phones. I applied a couple of PM's post processing effects to this one; and as a result, it has somewhat of a water color painterly effect to it, in my opinion. View the original photo here: http://godschild.smugmug.com/Miscellaneous/Here-There/i-qmBJjcN/A Have a terrific Tuesday!
