I returned to Fairmount Park yesterday at sunrise and found that the trees had finally started to bloom. It was a beautiful morning!

5th year Pic 156 - 15-Apr-2014. Lavani dance - Republic day parade, Mumbai Lavani is a combination of traditional song and dance performed to the beats of Dholki, a percussion instrument. Lavani is noted for its powerful rhythm and has contributed substantially to the development of Marathi folk theatre. The songs are sung in a quick tempo and mainly performed by ladies wearing nine-yard long saris, there are also men that dance in support with the lead dancer. ADDED: Rick, I've kept the bottom part as it contains the shadows of the two dancers which I feel adds a nice element. Terry, I tried complete B&W but looked drab with more emphasis on the shadows, taking away the attention from colourful costumes. More Lavani info Critiques welcome!

April 15, 2014 Thank you all for your comments on my potd yesterday, they were great and helpful. There wasn't a consensus for what the scraps of material could be used for, so it's still a mystery. I am very appreciative of you and the things that I learn from each of you. As many of you are aware Bill and I attended Cher's concert in Dallas a few weeks ago. What an amazing show!!!! At 67, she is still quite the performer. Her voice is as great as ever, and one of the neatest things (for me) was that she did a lot of the older songs that she and Sonny Bono made famous. As she was singing those, there was a video screen over the stage that was playing scenes of she and Sonny singing those same songs so long ago. In several of them, Sonny was spotlighted in the video singing his part, then Cher would sing hers on stage. It was very touching and sweet. The stage settings, the costume changes, the music, the vibe and the energy of the concert was amazing. I was blown away by her. And to think at 67 she's still going strong & sounding great! For her finale, she boarded this "form" and flew out over the audience while singing the final song. At this point she was very close to us, and we were fairly close to the stage. No "interchangeable" lens cameras were allowed, only point & shoot and cell phone cameras in the American Airlines Center. I felt fortunate to get a few good shots, but mostly Bill and I just enjoyed the music and I didn't shoot a lot. To see a couple more shots from the concert, check out the following links. And for those of you that are FB friends, you've seen others. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 "MAGNOLIA LILIIFLORA" (aka "Japanese Magnolia") "Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!" ~ Robin Williams I sure love spring and the flowers it brings! Here today; gone tomorrow.......Last week, the tree in our back yard that produces these Japanese Magnolias was full of small JP's; on Sunday when I photographed this Japanese Magnolia, it was one of three that remained. Today, it might be totally barren. So unpredictable! I appreciate your comments on our April table setting photo yesterday. There have been some remarkable posts in this community from each of you. SmugMuggers rock!!! Have a terrific Tuesday! (photo taken 4/13/2014)

A Mouthful Apr 15 While the squirrels were resting and not raiding the bird feeder, this blue jay grabbed this snack and flew to a tree to enjoy it.

So this is one of those strange pictures that I just loved and some of you might not. Fringe Festivals are everywhere. We saw some of the work at the Dunedin Festival in New Zealand, but they have them everywhere I think. If you can't figure out what the heck is going on here I can tell you the guy is sitting in a store front window play His guitar and that long pipe thing (don't know what it's called) the shadow with arms camera and curves is me! well, my refection that is. I didn't even see it at first, but there I am! What laugh!
Breakfast for the family I am generally of the opinion that the world has enough pictures of geese - especially the Greylag Geese that are present in the 10s of thousands in Austria's Seewinkel area. But I spent the last several days there photographing birds, and I thought this scene was nice. The Seewinkel area has a national park including a lake and several brackish ponds and hosts many many migrating birds every spring.
April 15, 2014 Sticking with the crab theme from yesterday. Looks like crab season has arrived, YAY! Maryland Blues! Nothing better.
