11/05/09 - Historic Yates Mill Pond at Sunset I posted a picture of the actual water wheel in my gallery earlier this year. In this picture, you can't see the wheel, but you get this lovely reflection instead. After Joey's flu shot, I decided to make the best of a wonderful afternoon and go for a quick hike around the mill pond. Unfortunately, we were really there a good 30-60 minutes too late to be taking good pictures. I had to bump up the saturation on this one to improve the color. This is the same shot taken on 10/26 last year when the sun was better and the tree closest to the mill still had yellow leaves on it. http://fotomom.smugmug.com/Yates-Mill-Pond/Yates-Mill-Photo-Contest-2009/7088136_34LZC#454338880_TdGL2 In both cases, the sky looks better in the reflection than in the final shot. I'm not sure how to get around that...especially in last night's picture when the sky really didn't have much blue in it. We still have not had a frost or freeze at my house, but it look like it's coming Friday night into Saturday. I am storing ceramic bird baths and pots and taking in fragile plants that I can save. I sure wish today was Friday... HAGD, Maryann
Cabin-0461 This is what home looked like early Monday morning. The trees, especially the two corkscrew-willows, were simply amazing with all the wet snow clinging to them. Since I don't see it very often, one thing I had forgotten about snow is it's tough to shoot! The light was only favorable for a short time and the wind was enough to ruin a lot of the more graceful scenes early on, but it certainly was a pleasant change from all the dead winter vegetation. But all that's over now - Bring on Spring!
Hello All, This is my first image I’ve posted using My new Olympus E-5 set on the dramatic tone picture mode. This beautiful farm field resides in New Tripoli Pa. Thanks for looking, please feel free to comment.

Nana, a very cute puppy - Jan 24 2009 Today my Caroline had to do her license test agility with Blue (which they passed easily), time to see our agility friend again and some new puppies. This little gal stole my heart instantly, good job she's already taken ;-) So I have to settle with some pictures of her.
1/15/09 CRABAPPLES IN THE SNOWSTORM With temperatures plummeting and more snow on the way, I added a little color to brighten this cold, cold, winter day... Hope you're staying warm...and feeding the birds AND squirrels... :-)
1-04: This is another from Thursday, actually taken a few minutes before yesterday's post. This shot was taken looking towards the other end of Horsetooth. As you can see, it's a very long and fairly narrow reservoir. It's amazing how fast the sky was changing - a lot of this color was gone in just a matter of seconds. It's also unusual how calm the water is. Normally you won't see a reflection this good on Horsetooth because of the wind.
2-1: Saturday evening we had quite a nice sunset, so I took a walk along the Poudre trail near Prospect street hoping to find some good views. I found this waterfall like thing.
I got a new camera! I have been working with a Nikon D40 and am now celebrating my upgrade to a D90. Kinda needed to though. My D40 is in the shop....and I have photos to take, darn it. Over the Holidays I was reading the Twilight series *sigh*...(I know, I know...already to much information;)And finally saw the movie. Then a couple nights ago, I watched Sweeney Todd. I was amazed by the lighting, the colors, contrast of both movies. I love the hair and costume design in Sweeney Todd... I became inspired....and this was my result... ****Thank you very much for all of the Awesome comments. I must admit though, this is a self portrait. Yup. Me, my camera, tri-pod, and a touch of inspirado.....********
Des-0253 My energetic niece, taunting me this afternoon at her brother's birthday party. Normally one to ham it up for the camera, she was being a bit mischievous today and tried to hide behind the door before I could get a shot off. She almost succeeded but ultimately ended up giving me what easily turned out to be my favorite shot of the day. Thanks for all the comments on the baseball shot I posted a couple days ago. I haven't had time to follow up/comment much yet, but I've certainly enjoyed easing back in and seeing/hearing from a lot of familiar folks.
12-26: Another from the golf course on Wednesday morning. There was a heavy frost on the trees which, in this shot, was helping to pick up a glow from the sun.
5-18: Sorry for no comments today - Melanie (my wife) had me doing chores almost all day long :( I'll try to catch up soon. We were driving by a farm near Lions Park natural area north of Fort Collins and this section of fence caught my eye. I think those little glowing round things are dandelion seed puff things.
Morning sunrise in the fog going 70 mph on our way home.
3-29: My older daughter and her family just moved into a townhouse and nearby I saw some interesting art work on the train cars. The composition isn't quite what I wanted - but I still kind of like it.
22.2.09 - Red Sky at Night, Photographer's Delight :) There are times when I feel that sunset photos are nothing to do with me, all I do is point and shoot, Mother Nature and Uncle Nikon do the work! I am also lucky that less than 2 minutes walk from my flat I have this view, so when I see something developing in the sky I just grab the camera and stroll round to the old quarry. Last night was a pretty special sunset as you can see. This is straight out of camera, and there are 11 more in my Lincoln Sunsets Gallery here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4053411_yY5Qg#478293082_9jPb4 As I said, not a lot to do with me as a photographer, but still damn spectacular :)

In both cases, the sky looks better in the reflection than in the final shot.
