Waiting for the ferry in the rain (best largest) Sunday night I was in the ferry line-up waiting for the ferry from Mayne Island back to Vancouver. It was raining and I noticed one ferry coming into the dock and starting to unload its cars onto the island, while the other one was waiting beside it to take us off the island. The windshield was covered with rain drops and so I started to play with my D810 to try to capture some of the lights and reflections. For this photo I set the camera on aperture priority, f16 and braced the camera on the steering wheel of my car to steady it. The raindrops on the windscreen resulted in a foreground bokeh and the ferry and cars were sharp, which was the effect I was trying to get. The image is as shot with no filters or other manipulations. You can see cars unloading in the background from the ferry on the left, and one or two people inside the upper deck of the ferry. You can also see the backs of the cars in front of me, waiting to load onto the ferry on the right. As a bonus, at the far left middle you can see a the lights of another ferry out in Trincomali Channel, just coming into view. 29/12/14 www.allenfotowild.com
12/29/14 - Cactus flower with raindrops Thanks for your comments on my shot of the goats! Someone commented that it looked like they were thinking about eating the camera. I read last week about some town that is using a herd of goats to eat all the Christmas trees after the holidays.
Peregrine Falcon - taken near Olympia, Wa. I really appreciate the comments!

Monday, December 29, 2014 "GLENDALE GLITTERS AND GLOW" "It's not what you have on the outside that glitters in light, it's what you have on the inside that shines in the dark.” ~ Anthony Liccione SOOC, uncropped, no flash, no tripod (handheld with steady hands) Although Christmas has come and gone, I am still in the spirit. Now, that we are home, I am going through the plethora of photos that I took during our Christmas vacation at my "happy place." We drove over to Glendale, AZ to see Arizona's largest free holiday light display that began Thanksgiving weekend and will stay up through January 10, 2015 - the weekend of the Bowl games. I didn't get many great shots, but this one, I really liked. The holiday lights, which now total 1.4 million, attract more than 300,000 visitors every year. Glendale, AZ is also the hometown of Jordin Brianna Sparks, the sixth season American Idol winner on May, 23 2007, who at age 17, became the youngest winner in the series' history. 28.12.14 - Snowy Sunset We've not had any more snow but the freezing temperature has meant that what fell the other night hasn't all melted yet. It made for a beautiful sunset dog walk yesterday, hope you can see Mr Willis in the top panorama?
