Hani woman with a heavy load. Taken at a construction site in Yuanyang Province (just north of the South China border with Vietnam). Much of the work of all types in this area is done by hand. Women from the Hani minority were hauling wicker baskets full of sand and rock up some crude stairs in the early morning light. The grey concrete make a perfect neutral grey background. I'm back after spending a couple of weeks photographing the ethnic peoples of Guizhou and Yunnan provinces in Southern China. Terrible internet connections in China with many sites completely embargoed (including Google, gmail, UTube, Facebook, Twitter plus many others even in major hotels in major cities), so no point even trying to post or comment. Thank you all, and especially Rick Willis for helping to keep my photos 'alive' during the past 2 weeks during my absence! I'm posting a couple of 'sneak preview' photos today to provide a taste for what I've been photographing.
28.01.15 - Saturn Rising Another "under alien skies" composite inspired by the guys at Roscosmos who produced some stunning images recently. If you want to try one of these there are lots of free wallpapers out there of planets or sci-fi skyscapes, the possibilities are endless really. I find the hardest thing is to match the sky colours, and a misty scene helps with the blending I have a small gallery of these here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/Photography/UNDER-ALIEN-SKIES/47186401_qW6hrD#!i=3846553564&k=vjB8JWT
1/29/15 - Snowstorm in Colorado Springs, better in the largest size. I find snowstorms challenging to capture well, so I take a lot of shots when I have the opportunity. I was pleased with this one. Thanks for your comments on my shot of the weed seedheads in the light.
1/29/2015 ~ Old Guys Rule An old truck in Adrain, Texas, the midway point on Route 66. People from the world over have signed this old truck. The texture you see on the truck and windshield is frost. It was in the teens that morning!
Woman walking across flooded rice paddies at sunrise The Honghe Hani rice terraces are a recently designated UNESCO World Heritage site in the south of Yunnan province, China (just north of the border with Vietnam). They cascade down the Ailao mountains to the banks of the Hong River and have been in constant cultivation for the last 1300 years. They are truly marvellous to see and photograph.

Thursday, January 29, 2015 "1930 PACKARD 734 SPEEDSTER" (Sepia Tone) "Ambition is a dream with a V8 engine." - Elvis Presley Throwback Thursday........ I like the original color version, but I think it looks better in Sepia Tone; thus, the conversion with SmugMug's Color Effects Tool. View the original photo here: http://godschild.smugmug.com/HolidaysHoliday-Travel/Christmas-2014/i-2J8FJPP/A Style: Customer Speedster Exterior: Color Blue Interior: Color Blue Cylinders: 8 Transmission 3-Speed Manual "The 1930 Packard 734 Speedster was Packard's answer to the high performance sports car. Developed by Packard's legendary engineer, Col. Jesse Vincent, the 734 combined an extensively modified Deluxe Eight 385cid straight eight and 4-speed gearbox in a modified 134 Standard Eight chassis with a lightweight two seat body to create a lightweight, nimble speedster capable of well over 100mph as it came from the factory. Only 113 originals were built. With so few built and readily available components, several exceptionally well built Speedsters have been built over the years including this beautifully presented example is a great tribute with chassis number 184029 and engine number 184015." "This car is superbly presented and while it has many features correct to an original Speedster it is not one of the originals. The narrow Speedster body is blue with light blue accent complemented by dark blue leather upholstery and a beige cloth top. Chrome wire wheels carry whitewall tires with dual side mount spares with mirror and beige cloth covers, Pilot-Ray driving lights and a radiator stone guard. Restored to very high standards. A gorgeous and fast Packard motorcar." ~ Reprinted text from here: http://www.barrett-jackson.com/Archive/Event/Item/1930-PACKARD-CUSTOM-SPEEDSTER-115906 Hang in there; tomorrow is Friday! January 28 - Guarded I really liked the rusty old gate on this picture with nice green foliage in the background.
