1-03: Thursday I let my daughter drive up to Horsetooth and on some of the roads up there (she's just started learning to drive). It just so happened that the sky was pretty awesome looking so I had her stop and I took some pictures. As you can see our snow is almost completely gone now :(
1/15/09 CRABAPPLES IN THE SNOWSTORM With temperatures plummeting and more snow on the way, I added a little color to brighten this cold, cold, winter day... Hope you're staying warm...and feeding the birds AND squirrels... :-)
1-23: Quite a dramatic view of the out house near River Bend ponds. I never posted the color version but I like the B&W better. It looks like it's out in the middle of nowhere but actually it's pretty close to the parking lot - I have to walk passed it to get back to my car. This was taken shortly after sundown a couple of weeks ago.
2-02: This is another from Saturday's sunset. Several people have asked if the colors are real (natural) in yesterday's. It was taken as three bracketed exposures but only at -1, 0 and 1. Then combined in Photomatix. Then final processing in Capture NX2 (mostly brightness and focus adjustments) I didn't change any colors. I did actually have to desaturate a little because the orange and reds tend to be over saturated sometimes. I used the same processing on today's post. This one was actually taken a few minutes before the one I posted yesterday, so the clouds are more orange than red or pink

January 14. This is a 100 year old summerhouse in the dunes just 100 m. from the beach. I shot it just before sunset in order to get the glow in the windows and the dark BG. The foreground was darkened in order to draw all attention to this well-preserved house .
St. Basil's Cathedral Dome. (6.23.2012) Our Internet was down all week which is why we haven't been around. It was also a busy week as we had company so, of course, we had to visit Red Square. This a just one of St. Basil's nine brightly colored domes. I couldn't get a good shot of the entire cathedral with bright hazy sunshine and huge crowds, but you're undoubtedly familiar with this iconic building completed in 1561 during the reign of Ivan The Terrible. Legend has it that Ivan ordered the architect of the building blinded so he could never create anything as beautiful as this. Just reward for a masterpiece that's lasted more than 450 years? Hope everyone had a good week.
22.3.09 - Comfort Zone When I joined the Dailies just over a year ago one of my stated goals was to "get out of my landscape comfort zone". There have been times when I've retreated deeply into my comfort zone, but this weekend hasn't been one of them. I've been working as a stills photographer on this project http://www.theladyofshalott.co.uk/index.html and today was the last big film shoot. My main role was to take individual shots of the actors for their portfolios, but I also took a lot of candids and general shots to record the event. All will be revealed in late May when the film is launched, but until then the imagery and style of the film is being closely managed. I can honestly say that I've never worked with such a wonderful bunch of talented individuals, and the whole experience has been magical. Unfortunately, I now have to process so many photos that I'll be AWOL from the Dailies again for another day or so. I know you'll be patient with me, and I hope this photo will maintain your interest until I can reveal a bit more :)
“In every outthrust headland, in every curving beach, in every grain of sand there is the story of the earth.” Rachel Carson 3/27/2010
I arrived there in time to catch a little fog for a moodier image. You can see the Herons nest in the trees. They are pretty far away. There is a big fence in front of all this so we can't get that close.

April 27, 2009 Early Morning Fog...
