Black-collared hawk (Busarellus nigricollis) going for a fish (best larger) Of all the birds I tried to capture fishing, the black-collared hawk was the most challenging and frustrating. Its attack was blindingly fast, and even a shutter speed of 1/3200 sec and a motor drive speed of 6 fps wasn't fast enough to catch the action. This was about the best I managed to do with this hawk. Another photo of this hawk just after it caught a fish can be seen here: http://goo.gl/3yuJcK 19/12/14 www.allenfotowild.com

12-19-2014 "Christmas Shopping" The streets are busy with shoppers as the days pass by before Christmas. The store on the corner is the famous "Square Books" where William Faulkner visited often. They have a reading area where you can sit, read and watch the action on the square. After posting this morning I was reading the comments on my photo yesterday. I wish I could have moved to the left or the right some for the comp but I was already standing in the middle of the circle around the square. Cars always yield to people crossing the street but they may not have allowed me to take photos. I was standing right above this crosswalk toward the circle. It was a busy weekend and cars were constant around the circle. I'm delighted some of you noticed that the comp could have been better. I too thought so. Maybe I will try to get a shot early one morning on a non busy day when there are few cars around. Thank you for your comments and critiques on my photos. Donna
