6/4/15 - Fluffy female robin; I'd never seen a robin so puffed up. She was cleaning her feathers. Check out the feather detail in the largest size. There were so many little branches around that I had difficulty getting the camera to focus on the robin. Thanks for your comments on my final Lexicon entry "sloom." Don't feel bad if you were a bit confused over whether the challenge was still on; I forgot it myself and had already posted a daily when I remembered it was Friday. Thanks to everyone who participated in the Lexicon challenges. It was a lot of fun for me; I hope you all enjoyed it, too. Happy 4th of July to all Americans!
Sunset - long exposure with a 10 stop ND filter. Taken near Olympia, Wa. I really appreciate the comments and the interest in my Great Horned Owl shot! Thank you

Aggstein Castle on the Danube Built in the 12th century,it has been destroyed and rebuilt at least twice. It was infamous as the home of various robber barons, who taxed (i.e. stole from) ships on the Danube. As a young man I hiked up from the Danube. Now you can drive up - which over 50,000 people do annually. Beautiful views from up there.
03.07.15 - Emergency Call You can plan for some things, others come completely out of the blue, but you can still be ready for them just in case! This was on my guided photo walk last night. We'd been on the South Common, effectively a large park on the edge of town where you get great views across the city, hoping for some big sunset shots. It looked promising for a while, but nothing developed in the end. So then we took a short walk into town to play around with light trails in the halflight. I was just explaining how buses and emergency vehicles gave better trails than cars, and that you could use flat topped railings and walls if you didn't want to carry a tripod around with you. Then we heard a siren in the distance. I'd already set my camera to a 5 second shutter speed, the longest possible with so much light still around, luckily there was a low wall next to me with a nice flat top. I just got the camera down in time, didn't have chance to check the viewfinder and compose it, just angled it up the street and pressed the shutter. I had to crop off some dead space at the bottom, but it came out pretty good for an impromptu grab. The moral of the story is know how much light there is and have the camera settings ready, just in case a speeding ambulance or bus appears from nowhere, and keep an eye out for flat surfaces to use as a tripod.
Happy July 4th!
