Day 291, Saturday, December 19

Lots of rain today.... again.

So I thought I would step back from the Wetlands and go to higher ground..... and the archives. This is Yosemite. The rock on the right is the base of Half Dome. The one on the left might be North Dome, but I'm not sure. This was an evening capture..... and the cloud was the only cloud in the sky.

Further along this trail, hikers were forced to turn back. The trail was closed because of a rock slide. Also sat and watched a deer for 10 minutes.

Regular visitors may have already visited my "Yosemite Gallery"... but if you are new or want to see it again CLICK HERE

DailyPhotos > popular today > Hokami in the Snow - Dec 18 2009

We got about 10 cm of snow yesterday... so I just had to go in to the garden with some dogs to take snow shots. Hokami was more than willing to pose for me... certainly after I was asking 'where is the ball?'... well somewhere under the snow I guess...

DailyPhotos > popular today > 12/19/09 - Christmas card #?
This is 3 pictures in one. Santa and the background were taken Thursday night, and the tree was taken last night. I used PSE7 to create 3 layers. Mostly all I did was erase out the Santa layer so that the tree itself was not hidden. I also worked on the proportion and position of the tree relative to Santa. This is version #3. In version #1, part of the tree was chopped off on the left. The background is just an out of focus shot of the Santa itself.

I had my typical stepping stool set-up again. With the slit in the center of it, I fed the Christmas lights up through the slit and a piece of black paper in order to hide the lights better. The lights are actually taped to the backside of the crystal Christmas tree.

As best as I can tell, the modem in my computer had a temporary failure...one in which only a complete shutdown would reset it. I had restarted the computer several times and resynched the router/modem and had the cable company reset everything to no avail. Finally the shutdown got me going again. I was not a happy camper with no internet access. Hopefully it won't fail again anytime soon.

Johnny and I did have great fun shopping. He had on his Santa Snoopy shirt and Santa hat and was just a joy to have out with me yesterday. He went right up to a sales associate at Carolina Pottery and gave her a big hug saying it was her Christmas present. She had started up a tabletop fountain (for him), and he was expressing his delight. Thankfully she had the Christmas spirit. In the Croc outlet (OMG did I get some deals in there), he was lounging on the cube style seats in the store looking like he belonged in their comercials. So, yes, it was a good day. I even made some progress on my Christmas todos.

RE the snow that wasn't. We get a lot of false alarms at my house. While we did have one band of huge puffy flakes go through that had everyone taking pictures, it was over nearly as soon as it started. Thankfully the ice that followed turned to rain. It's still raining. Had the air been 5 degrees colder we'd have 2' of snow.

I had my camera out at a stop light taking a picture of the snow and wouldn't you know a person in the car beside me had their camera out too. It's just that much of an event here to even see a flake.

(Dec. 18, 2009) Gypsy is still quite cautious about Gracey. They're fine on the whole, but still need some supervision when outside together.
